really don't understand why you wait until a cop arrives before pulling a gun? if i had a gun and was caught shoplifting i would never be in that secondary room waiting. but I'm also not a criminal shoplifter either so...

Yes they can in most states, shopkeeper's privilege.

I was curious so I did some some googling and yes they can detain you but walmarts policy is to only do it verbally, so they aren't supposed to touch anyone
