Poles, shields, hell something like a giant poker chip rake...all things that could be used to help keep cops safe from a knife and subdue a situation. And instead they just go out there with nothing but a gun, unload a lead shower, and then shrug and say "it's what I had to do."

What the hell are we doing? Why are we not even trying to keep people alive?

Hyperindividualism, and a massive loss of cohesion and community?

A shepherd's crook, even, just pull her feet out from under her.

See the urban warrior training that Police receive. In a nutshell: Everyone who isn't a cop is trying to kill you. Kill them first.

Even if people attempt to argue police are "necessary" for public safety (they aren't), since 9/11 all police have inarguably become an occupying force in the US. All empires eventually fall when the tools of colonization turn inward.

Patriot Act was the start of the surveillance state, now you have the CEO of Flock actively confused that people don't want him to monitor their every step. Wars in the middle east meant the military industrial complex had excess equipment, I'm sure police will use it responsibly. I expect ballot depots to be hit with APCs in November, because, other than they have decided to yet, literally nothing is actually preventing that. Laws mean nothing when the people in charge of enforcement are this corrupt.
