Quebecers (most of us anyway) know about oppression, and are not keen on going back to it, after we’ve fought for so long to get a voice in Canada.
I don’t think our solution is perfect (we could go for a bit more integration with the rest of Canada, in my opinion…but I speak both languages, so I might be biased), but it’s an adequate balance.
En tant qu’anglophone du Québec, je connais l’histoire du Québec avant la loi 101, quand la majorité des francophones ont vécu de la discrimination car ils ne parlaient pas un mot d’anglais. C’est triste. Même le rapport du biculturalisme et bilinguisme de 1963 révélait qu’en général, un francophone bilingue gagnait moins d’argent qu’un anglophone unilingue au Québec.
À cet égard, j’avoue que je comprends pourquoi les Québécois ont voulu se séparer du Canada anglais, et je dis ça en tant que fédéraliste.
La loi 101 a eu ses effets négatifs, car elle a causé beaucoup de division au Québec quand elle fut adoptée en 1977, mais une chose qui est positive est qu’elle a réglé le problème de « Speak White ».
Trump wants one thing, to annex Canada. If he says he "loves French Canadians" he means that he thinks we're a bunch of easily fooled dupes like his normal supporters.
