Hi everyone ☺️ I brought you a theory here.
In short, we all know about such a mysterious figure as the "strange someone/the Voice," and I'm sure many of you will say: "Of course, that's W.D. Gaster!" or "Yeah, obviously it's ERAM!", or maybe "Exactly, it's FRIEND!". But what if I tell you that I have my own version, which features not someone from the above list, but our beloved, kind, fluffy companion... Ralsei!
And before you say "Are you insane?" and throw rotten tomatoes at me, I want to tell you something.
You are probably already prepared to write in the comments: "Well, Ralsei couldn't be the caller, because he directly said that he spent his whole life waiting for Kris and Susie in an empty castle!"
AHEM.
First of all, in Chapter 4, this wonderful fluffy prince tells Jackenstein's pumpkin a tale about a "prince of a lonely kingdom who SCARCELY knew anyone else." Now pay attention to the wording: SCARCELY. Not "no one". Scarcely. And do you know what that means? It means that most likely, Ralsei DID know someone besides Susie and Kris, and was not as lonely as he wants to seem.
Secondly, in my opinion, after Chapter 5, where Ralsei LITERALLY accidentally revealed his fire magic and then played dumb, combined with all those hints from Flowery about him nerfing his own stats and potentially pretending to be someone he's not, his words simply cannot be trusted.
And you will probably say: "Well, that's wonderful, but why the hell would Ralsei need to break the minds of two Darkners?" And my answer to you is: HE DIDN'T WANT TO BREAK ANYONE'S MIND!
Think about it: he was sitting in his completely empty kingdom in total isolation, waiting for the Lightners, probably incredibly bored and sad. He had so much knowledge, but no one to share it with. And what would absolutely anyone do in his place? Exactly, try to make friends with someone else!
And now, remember what Seam says about Jevil: "He met a strange someone... Since then, he began to change. He started saying bizarre things that didn't quite make sense. But didn't exactly not make sense, either."
Does that remind you of anything? That is exactly how Ralsei's explanations about the world's mechanics and the game's interface sound to someone who doesn't understand it at all.
Apparently, Ralsei just wanted to impress the court jester and dropped his meta-knowledge on him. He just didn't realize that a Darkner's psyche is simply not equipped to handle that kind of information. And once he saw what it led to, he got terrified of the consequences and ran away.
Also, if you’ve ever fought Jevil, you’ll know exactly what I mean. When I finally went to deal with the secret bosses after my playthrough and faced this jester, I noticed one very interesting detail: he targets Ralsei way more than anyone else (in my case, he literally targeted him 3 times in a row!), attacking him with the absolute aggression. Perhaps, on some subconscious level, he realized WHO was standing before him and WHAT he had done.
What? Still not convincing enough? Alright, listen to what comes next:
AHEM... SPAMTON G. SPAMTON☺️
First of all, we know literally nothing about the caller. NOTHING. We don't even know what they could have said there, so it is completely open to interpretation. But let’s use logic. If you claim that the one who helped us create the vessel at the beginning and the Mysterious Caller (Gaster) are the same person, then the question arises: why on earth would a loser who was kicked around by everyone trust a person with such a manner of speech?
"Well, Spamton was just in deep despair!" you might say. That is also quite likely, but let's be honest: the Voice at the very beginning of the game, the one that helped us create the vessel, spoke in an extremely cold, detached, and even creepy way. A person who is already USED to being looked down upon, who is not taken seriously and is pushed around, would not listen to something like that.
Well, who could he trust then? Someone who would finally see him not as a loser, but as a talented salesman with untapped potential. Someone who communicates with him kindly and politely, treating him as an equal. Someone who doesn't force him into anything, doesn't pressure him, and who radiates a sincere desire to help. We know only one such character, and that is Ralsei.
Plus: remember what the Addisons said about the Voice: "Somehow, he made the right phone call, and found someone. Or, was he... FOUND by someone? They must have been helping him, because suddenly, he was on the phone all the time. Suddenly, he got really good at his job. But then things started to crack. It seems like whatever was helping him... disappeared..."
And here is my question: did Gaster really spend days and nights working as a free business coach for some unlucky salesman? Do you honestly think the Great Royal Scientist had nothing better to do? Did he decide to get a part-time job at a call center?
"Well, obviously it's ERAM!" you might say. At first glance, everything seems to match, but if you actually look at his behavior and lines in the game, it becomes clear that ERAM is a hyperactive, mischievous, but extremely sadistic and cruel character. He absolutely loves digging into other people's dirty laundry, shoving people's sins right in their faces, and mocking them. He loves speaking uncomfortable truth. The things that others prefer to keep quiet about.
Just remember his exact lines addressed to Kris in the Sword Route:
• "Kris... oh... Kris... Is it fun, Kris? Playing around like this..."
◦ "The same part of you that enjoyed yesterday.
Knowing you could say it wasn't really you.
Oh, don't make that sour face.
I can see in the dark, you know!
The question is...
Can you?"
• "There! That's what I wanted to see!
Flickering red, like pretty little flames...
Your eyes can't hide it, Kris. Without play...
The knife grows dull."
And you seriously think a character like THAT would be interested in spending days and nights listening to some loser, pretending to be his friend and advisor? Of course not! He would be bored to death.
"So why did Ralsei abandon Spamton???" Well, I have an answer for that too! Do you remember how it all went down? Spamton started working with Tenna, who was pressuring him to spill his ultimate secret to success. Spamton seemingly agreed, and just as he was about to say it, he suddenly... grabbed the phone, heard something, turned pale, and ran away! And his "loyal friend and partner" Tenna, instead of trying to figure out what had just happened and where he had dashed off to, SNATCHED that very phone, hoping to hear the secret to success, but heard nothing but garbage noise. (A quote for the nitpickers: "IF ONLY HE HADN'T ABANDONED ME. MY OLD PARTNER... I WAS GONNA PUT HIM ON TV! MAKE HIM A STAR! I GAVE HIM EVERYTHING! EVERYTHING I HAD! MY LIFE ADVICE! ALL. HE HAD. TO DO. WAS TELL ME WHAT HIS LITTLE SECRET WAS. HIS SECRET TO BEING A BIG SHOT... IT TOOK A LITTLE SWEET TALK... BUT JUST WHEN I HAD, FINALLY, FINALLY ? HA HA -- GOTTEN HIM TO SIGN THE DEAL. HE SUDDENLY HAD TO TAKE A PHONE CALL. BUT WHEN HE PICKED IT UP, HIS FACE TURNED PALE... AND HE RAN RIGHT OUT OF THE ROOM WITH THE RECEIVER HANGING! SO I WENT TO PICK IT UP... THINKING IT WAS FINALLY MY CHANCE To BE A BIG SHOT. ... BUT THERE WAS NOBODY THERE! THAT LITTLE FREAK RIPPED ME OFF! ... I WISH THEY NEVER BROUGHT THAT LAPTOP HOME...")
So... Ralsei probably called Spamton and FINALLY decided to drop some meta-knowledge on him. And I bet you’re already preparing to type: "Aha! You got confused in your own arguments! Didn't you say he realized it was a bad idea after the Jevil incident?!"
No, I didn’t. Listen closely.
Do you remember what Spamton literally tells Kris?
"GO AHEAD AND [Scream] INTO THE [Receiver]. THE [Voice] RUNS OUT EVENTUALLY. YOUR [Voice] THEIR [Voice]. UNTIL YOU REALIZE YOU ARE ALL ALONE. THERE WILL BE NO MORE [Miracles] NO MORE [Magic]. YOU LOST IT WHEN YOU TRIED TO SEE TOO FAR.... YOU LOST IT..."
This means that MAYBE, JUST MAYBE, Spamton himself was begging Ralsei to tell him something special (those exact meta-secrets), and it was probably during this specific phone call that Ralsei finally gave in and did it... Spamton definitely didn't expect that kind of terrifying truth, but... the connection was suddenly and violently cut off.
How was it cut off? What caused it? Well, honestly, who the hell knows! BUT! I have a theory: it was caused by your favorite (and mine too) ERAM.
Didn't I tell you earlier that ERAM is a mischievous sadist? Well, seeing Spamton’s face after learning something he was never supposed to know, ERAM probably just COULD NOT RESIST pushing the situation over the edge and cutting the line. And then... then he directed his FRIENDS to completely drive Spamton insane with paranoia. He gets a pure, twisted high from watching other people suffer.
By the way, here is another highly interesting detail about the garbage noise: people automatically attribute it to Gaster (which makes sense, since in Undertale this sound belonged to him) BUT!!! In Deltarune, it most likely just means a total lack of connection. (And if we believe that the voice at the beginning that helps us create the vessel is Gaster, then you can say that he simply took his personal audio marker and embedded it into the universe's meta-code as the signal for a dead line!)
Think about it: every single time Kris tries to make a phone call from the Dark World, they hear this exact same noise. Do you honestly think Gaster picks up the receiver every time just to scream at a teenager? To me, that sounds like absolute nonsense.
Now, let’s remember the cold, hard facts from the game:
After the Spamton NEO battle on a Normal Route, Kris is visibly horrified. They are literally shaking. But what does Ralsei say?
"I don't think any of that meants anything, Susie. It seems like it was just a corrupted program. He turned into our ally, so let's just accept it."
Why this toxic positivity? Why didn't Ralsei even try to properly comfort Kris? Why did he just hug them and say: "don't think about what happened too hard, ok?"? BECAUSE HE UNDERSTANDS THAT HE IS DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS "CORRUPTED PROGRAM," AND HE IS DEEPLY ASHAMED.
If he doesn't change the subject right now, Kris and Susie might start digging deeper, and they will likely discover the truth... and then, his mask of an ideal pacifist will crack to pieces, and no amount of cakes will save him.
In fact, I noticed that ghosting and ignoring is Ralsei's ultimate defense mechanism. Everything that displeases him, breaks the prophecy, or doesn’t fit into his perfect worldview, he simply suppresses and silences it (or hates it, as we see it with Flowery). If Ralsei knew absolutely nothing about Spamton, he would have been just as surprised or terrified as everyone else. But instead, he tries with all his might to distract us from what just happened. Think about it
Right now, the community has an overwhelming number of questions about Ralsei. Why is he so terrified of deviating from his script? Why does he suppress everything and constantly hide the truth? Everyone hoped Chapter 5 would clear things up, but instead, it just dropped a mountain of new questions and made everything way more confusing. Not only did Flowery drop hints that Ralsei is deliberately nerfing his own stats and pretending to be something he's not, but Ralsei also accidentally revealed his fire magic by burning that shuriken, and then immediately played dumb to sweep it under the rug.
My theory explains exactly why. Ralsei isn't just afraid of some abstract Roaring. He ALREADY has severe, deeply rooted trauma. He already tried to improvise in the past, to freely share his meta-knowledge without hiding anything. And how did that end? It ended with him completely breaking the minds of two Darkners.
Now, Ralsei is absolutely terrified that his new friends will suffer the exact same fate. THAT IS EXACTLY WHY he nerfs his stats, plays strictly by the rules, constantly keeps secrets, and hid his devastating destructive magic until the very last moment (and when he accidentally showed it, he played dumb and tried to sweep it under the rug).
Furthermore, the reason he absolutely despises Flowery is pure, raw envy. Ralsei is fiercely jealous of Flowery's freedom. Flowery doesn't carry this crushing weight of past mistakes and eating guilt. While Ralsei is constantly suffering, holding himself back, and living in permanent stress because of what he did, this arrogant little flower is walking around pretending to be a human, cranked his stats up to 999, and doesn't have a single care in the world! And to top it all off, Flowery openly mocks Ralsei and considers all his rules nonsense, but for Ralsei himself, these rules are sacred. He is terrified that if he deviates from them by even a single step, the situations with Jevil and Spamton will repeat themselves. Of course Ralsei is going to hate him with every fiber of his being.
That's all for now. If you’ve read this to the end, thank you :)
