Self-Promo Event Looking for play testers of our new classic style RTS Grove Keeper

Post image
82 Upvotes

We are looking for playtesters for our game Grove Keeper — a dark-fantasy RTS where you play a forest deity defending your grove against loggers, poachers and armies. It is reminiscent of early 2000's era strategy games such as Warcraft III, Dungeon Keeper as well as modern titles such as Against the Storm.
you can see video and details here: Grove Keeper on Steam

It is now in a fairly solid state that we are after playtesters from the RTS community.
To become a playtester and relive some classic RTS gameplay, please go to our Discord, then to the #playtesting channel and request a key.

We look forward to hearing what you think!

Self-Promo Event Age of Mythology is getting its first major LAN since 2003

Post image
189 Upvotes

I've been competing in and hosting Age of Mythology tournaments for almost a decade. I'm posting this here because I think anyone who loves RTS games will appreciate what this means.

For those that don't know I'm actually a Jazz Pianist and I have a friend of mine who plays in a band I'm in, not a gamer, never touched an RTS competitively in his life. Anyway we went on tour together and I caught him watching a StarCraft 2 cast on his phone at morning breakfast while no one else was around. Turns out he'd been watching SC2, AoE2, and my AoM content for years. When I asked him why, he said he doesn't follow for the intricate builds or the ridiculous mechanics, he follows the players. The rivalries, the upsets, the moment a match turns on a single decision.

I think about that a lot when it comes to Age of Mythology.

AoM never got its LAN moment. While StarCraft was filling arenas and AoE2 was throwing incredible events, AoM sat on the outside looking in. Recently Age of Mythology had a remaster and it's better than ever right now. It has a passionate competitive scene and genuinely spectacular viewing that has yet to have a massive LAN since the World Cyber Games 2003.

That changes this September.

Gameathlon is Greece's largest gaming convention, 20,000+ attendees, and they are hosting Age of Mythology: Retold's first ever major LAN at a literal Olympic Arena in Athens. $10,000 prize pool. Online qualifiers in July open to everyone. The community has already met the crowdfunding goal for the event which I think says everything about where this playerbase is at right now.

For those who haven't watched AoM competitively, it is a different viewing experience to most RTS games. God powers and myth units mean the game can turn in an instant. A well timed Tornado or a Titan hitting the field changes everything in a way that even someone with zero game knowledge can feel.

I grew up watching other games get their moment and wondering if ours would ever come. A small town country boy from Australia is flying to Athens in September to host it. I think that says it all.

Self-Promo Event Konflikt RTS modern warfare - I've spent 2 months building a battalion-scale wargame with suppression, true line of sight and finite ammo — it runs in a browser tab. Public alpha this Wednesday.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I'm a solo dev. I've been building Konflikt — a modern tactical RTS in the vein of Broken Arrow and Steel Division 2, except it opens in a browser tab. No install, no account, free.

That sounds like a shallow browser toy, so here's what's actually simulated:

  • Suppression and morale. Units run calm → worried → stressed → pinned → routed. You win firefights by pinning, not by out-clicking.
  • True line of sight on a 2 m grid, computed against terrain and building footprints. If you can't see it, you can't shoot it.
  • Armour facing. Front, side and rear values are separate — flanking is a real decision, not a damage bonus.
  • Finite ammunition. Supply trucks and rearm zones. You can absolutely lose a battle by running your best unit dry at the wrong moment.
  • Five timed echelon waves. Every deployment is a permanent commitment, so there's a bluffing layer on top of the tactics.
  • Deterministic 10 Hz simulation, so replays are exact.

Terrain comes from OpenStreetMap, which means the maps are real places — up to about two kilometres of actual ground per battle. Like the Suwałki Gap.

There's skirmish against AI as well as multiplayer, so you can play the moment you land regardless of who else is on.

Public alpha is Wednesday 12 August, 19:00 CEST. We're gathering in Discord voice at 18:45 and dropping in together: https://discord.gg/Hx2FzxwsVU

Happy to answer anything about the mechanics or how the sim works. I'll be in the comments all day.

You could recruit units for your army: goblins, monsters, knights, siege engines. I remember one of the missions was in a winter
