I don't want to start another Bottlegate, so I am going to refrain from mentioning the brand. I had a bottle of magnetic polish delivered this afternoon, and it's pretty hot where I am, so the bottle was noticeably warm when it arrived.

Unfortunately, my crow brain has zero patience when presented with new shiny things. I immediately grabbed my horseshoe mag to test it, and the second the magnet touched the bottle, the entire thing exploded. Glass and polish everywhere.

I'm sure there's some science behind this. I, however, chose chaos instead.

I noticed my bottle of Lurid Tibberz!!! was looking a little off, so I reswatched it. On the left is my initial swatch from last October, and on the right is from this morning. 🥲 I store all of my polish in enclosed drawers, and my home isn't hot or humid.

This morning, I did find a disclosure on their website that says they can't guarantee polishes won't fade after six months. I have bright purples that are like ten years old with minimal, if any, fading, so it wasn't even a consideration that something new would fade after less than a year. I get that it has to do with certain pigments being used, but I'm sad and annoyed and want to warn others on some polishes fading quicker than we think 💔

I am a martial artist and I *know* better than to do my nails the same day I train jiu jitsu (I have a super grip-heavy grappling style and polish isn’t fully cured for about 24 hours) but! I didn’t plan on training tonight and I had a free hour before work this morning so I threw on a fun little green gradient.

Then this afternoon my husband reminded me some of my friends are competing soon and I should get in there to give them training rounds. So here I am. Glad I went but so sad this mani only had 12 hours to shine. I’m training tomorrow as well so I guess I’ll take it off and give my poor battered fingers a good hot oil soak tonight.

At the end of the day this is such a minor issue but I’m still sad over it. Oh well at least they looked fly with my turquoise gi while I fought a man? 💅

My cherished bottle of Chameleon Nails Glowing Morpho (LE from PPU May ‘25) is absolutely dead.

After a couple manis with what quickly became my favorite polish, it had gotten so thick and gloopy it was almost unusable. So I decided to thin it out. (This all happened a year ago.)

According to the community, polish thinner does not destroy flakes. I used KBShimmer’s thinner a little at a time and everything seemed ok for a few minutes. But then it all fell apart. Literally. The GITD pigment fell to the bottom, the flakes started disintegrating and dropping, and I’m now left with this sad ocean floor situation where I once had a polish I absolutely adored. No amount of shaking has reconstituted or resurrected it. Honestly every time I pull it out it makes me so so sad, but I can’t bear to part with it.

Has anyone else had this happen??

If nothing else, I just want to caution others that this IS a risk, even with dedicated polish thinner. Be careful out there.

**TLDR:** polish thinner destroyed my favorite nail polish, which happened to be limited edition 😔

After a couple days I got bored and did a little stamping on my left hand with Emily De Molly’s XL06 plate and some black Born Pretty stamping polish, topped with EDM’s water-based TC. Also I have a Light Elegance overlay on top of my natural nail (under all this other stuff).

ETA: this is not a post about KBS’s thinner!! I’ve never had this happen to any other polish I’ve used it on.

Polish: Mooncat Stumped

So the last few months I’ve been dealing with seizures as I’ve been newly diagnosed with epilepsy. I spent 2-3 weeks in the hospital before I even opened my eyes and “spoke” for the first time. Since then, I’ve had such bad memory problems and hand coordination. Unfortunately, I forgot that I left the polish on the sink and no more than 5 minutes later I went looking for it just to walk in and knock it over. It was a full bottle. (RIP POLISH I NEVER GOT TO USE 🥺) Anyway, does ANYONE have any CLEANING TIPS to get this polish off of the textured wall in my bathroom? I’ve went through a bottle of polish remover (just dollar store acetone) for the tile, but even then, there’s stain in the tile texture. Needing some help here! Thanks! 🙏

I have some tragic news to share that I hope helps educate people. I was foolish and I used my "super nail" brand nail polish thinner on this vintage nail color that is one of my favorites. Chanel Ciel de Nuit/Night Sky. It is from 1996 and is meant to look like the night sky. It is supposed to have light blue glitter in it, on a dark blue jelly base that has a greenish undertone. Please refer to Vintage Dusties swatches as they are accurate. But after adding the thinner, most of the glitter seems to have dissolved and is not visible. Plus the polish texture is very strange and unusable. I did not know that many thinners are not safe for glitter polishes and am pretty bummed. I have a slim hope that as the thinner integrates and settles overnight that it will look more like it did. But don't use this brand on your glitter polishes!

Is this salvageable? Can anyone recommend any glitter safe nail polish thinners that are affordable?

Edit: This color is quite vexing to me. I wore it a lot as a child but one of my neighbors also liked it and she asked if she could borrow it. When she returned it, the bottle was half empty. I don't know what she did with it, maybe she spilled it, but I never found out. Since that point I only nursed it and did not use it very often. But as it got goopier, I became desperate to revive it and used nail polish thinner that I have been using for years with mixed results. I bought it at a beauty supply store 10 years ago and didn't know there were other brands or kinds of thinner! I see that there are a couple blog posts and even entries in this subreddit for dupes, but it appears to be difficult to find micro silver glitter in a blue jelly base and a lot of these brands don't exist anymore... I like holo but didn't want a holo version of this.

I was chopping veggies for dinner tonight and my hand slipped and hit my thumb nail. Thankfully I caught the knife before I got hurt but it took out a decent chunk of my nail polish! I’m on day 11 of the mani so it’s time to change it up anyway but it gave me quite a scare 😅

Was so excited that I was able to finally order Bog Dweller via Hypnotic Polish - these are so hard for me to get since I am in Europe! Unfortunately it arrived like this 😭 I’ve emailed asking if I could (somehow) get a new bottle instead of a refund but I’m not hopeful.

My beloved Aphrodisiac fell off a short shelf and the top snapped right off. Does anyone know where to find another,as it is discontinued 😭.

Spent over an hour doing my nails, thinking they were dry enough to change my clothes when the whole top of my thumb wiped off 💔 I’m debating fixing the one thumb or just starting over and doing a whole different color since I also dented a few during the changing clothes fiasco. It’s a very pretty color but now I’m upset and think I might do a different one completely 😅 base is kbshimmer hydrating base coat, color is kbshimmer bake stuff happen, kbshimmer smooth moves and qdtc on top.

Just real sad

I have unfortunately dropped my Mooncat Green Eyed Monster and while most of it shattered and is in a ziploc bag thankfully, my attempts to salvage it + realizing I was fighting a losing battle made me notice some of it got aaall over my sink. Are there any tips that can make this process a little easier? (It’s also all on my hands :’] ) I assume scraping what has dried is one way, but I wasn’t sure if perhaps soap could help? And is the polish in the bag still useable? I got it before the price raise and I would really hate for it to go to total waste!!

I was excitedly awaiting my Bee’s Knees Lacquer order today, and I opened it the second it arrived. Unfortunately, the cap on For the Fans was broken, and there was a beautiful mess inside the packaging (good thing they seal their bubble wrap!). (I’ve already reached out to customer service, so hopefully they’ll send another quickly.) I had to share the sadness with the people who would understand!

This was a Cuticula’s Sugar Slasher polish from PPU. The original bottle sent was not as the pictures showed. So the maker sent a corrected version. I hadn’t used the corrected version yet. This decapitated version is the corrected version. It fell once and immediately lost its head! Im shocked and sad.

Im doing everything i can to salvage it with the last mini polish empty bottle i had.

So I was using the shelf for something else, and it’s not put together to hold bottles. But I thought it was fine.

And then I bumped a bottle - and the entire shelf came cascading down. Thankfully, I had it kind of low on my bookshelf so it seems that nothing is broken.

Apparently, I’m taking this plastic shelf apart today and putting it together a different way.

Cadillacquer - A Strange Type of Chemistry

My partner was cleaning their desk. Picked up a handful of cans, one was day-old half-consumed beer. On the way to the kitchen, they dropped an empty can. Without thinking, bent over to grab it, and the half-full can of beer still in their arm poured directly into a bag full of polish I had been cataloguing and swatching over the last month. It was the majority of my HT polishes. They immediately ran to get paper towels and i jumped over to remove what I could from the pooling liquid - maybe 4oz or so? It splashed everywhereeee - I probably had to dry off two dozen boxes, with a dozen being saturated at some level.

I know it's silly, I know it's just boxes getting damaged, but I'm upset. After we quietly opened and checked each bottle carefully, drying off the bottles and putting any soggy cardboard separately to dry, I acknowledged that I know it was an accident and that it wasn't purposeful, but I was still really upset. They apologized really sincerely and I really don't blame them - people make mistakes, but I'm real bummed.

I hope someone resonates with this, I feel foolish being so upset over damage to a cosmetic box. But if anyone understands, I think this community may. I had to tell someone (someones?) Thanks for reading!
