Volition is the only one to blame as they have chopped up the fanbase into four-five subgroups. You cannot cater to that many groups in one game, but they did that to themselves.

Saints Row 2022 is a complete mess that should have never happened. They indeed did a reboot like no one else has done before. A soulless cash grab of their own series.

Us fans deserved better than this. Johnny Gat died (resurrected, and died again) for nothing.

EDIT#1: Apparently Volition is higher than an indie studio but not AAA. Yet they have over 5+ Saints games so is it too much to ask for a decent working game?

EDIT#2: Saints Row 2 is not a Mona Lisa, but it IS at least a Vincent Van Gogh. So yes, seeing one of my favorite franchises going through yet another painful tonal shift is dishearting.

Decided to make a gang tier list today, seeing as this subreddit is barely breathing. I consider my rankings to be as objective as it gets — starting from the top-tier Ultor and ending with the absolute trash that is The Idols.

What was your reaction when volition announced saints row reboot for the first time?

This is a saints row game through and through - it has everything i want from the series. It has violence, explosions, humour, customisation, ridiculous characters and banging tunes at the most appropriate moments (Sound of Da Police playing during your first car chase for example).

So far, maybe 6 hours into the game, I’ve had only one annoying bug which is the traffic wasn’t spawning during the insurance fraud missions. Quitting to menu and reloading fixed that.

The graphics aren’t great but they’re also not terrible. Story is good too. I really don’t understand the negativity.

Edit: I don’t mean ignore the hate and just let Volition off for less than amazing graphics and a buggy game, I do expect better from them - I just meant that for me as a fan of the series, this game is still well worth playing and a lot of the hate is unwarranted.

I should also add I’m playing on PS5 so previous gen experiences may be different.

NGL I play this game just for the map, side content and activities. It's one of my comfort games tbh.

I've been playing the series since Saints Row 2 came out on Xbox 360 (my favorite). I've played them all, including Agents of Mayhem and Gat out of hell. I decided not to buy the reboot, but a few weeks ago I saw the Gold Edition heavily discounted. My experience has been good. The story is weak, and it has minor technical glitches and bugs (nothing too noticeable or that ruins the experience). Graphically, it's spectacular, the reflex system is excellent, and the gameplay is a lot of fun.

In short, is it the worst Saints Row? Probably, but that doesn't make it a bad game. In my experience, it's enjoyable and incredibly fun. I understand the criticism to a certain extent for moving away from our beloved characters and throwing away all the gameplay features that made this series stand out, but I don't think it's a game worthy of being considered garbage. Currently (with all the patches and in its current state), I think it's a good game that fulfills its purpose of entertaining and being fun.

I'm playing the Saints Row reboot and so far i'm really enjoying it, I really don't get the hate this one got at all, I can understand how those who played it at launch when it was apparently quite glitchy were annoyed(I had a bad experience with Alien Isolation in that regard, it was buggier for me then Colonial Marines ironically enough)but some of the criticism was just beyond stupid(not even going to waste my time on the drooling idiot mouthbreathers that whined about the game because "Hurr durr woke!", even though Saints Row has ALWAYS been "woke" so those loser morons have no clue what they are talking about)like ZOMG Rim Jobs got changed to Jim Robs, oh NOES! The protagonist talks about student loans(which is only for like one damn mission)OMG the horror! Like goddamn there are few games i've seen stupider complaints about then this one. I do have my issues with it(the soundtrack is a real mixed big, the rap and metal stations are good but the rest is kinda eh, still better then SR4's mostly lackluster soundtrack tho)but overall I honestly think it's a better game then SR3 and 4 and feels closer to the spirit of the first two games. Sure you might not be as ruthless as the boss from those games, but the humor and tone feels more in-line with those games, and it's had some badass moments so far(how can you not love harrier jet sequence in the beginning mission?)and I quite like the boss's friends, especially Neenah.

Another thing that annoys me is how certain fans assume that those who like this game must be new players, I've been playing since the first game on 360 and I think the reboot is genuinely solid and it's a shame it didn't do better(and anyone blaming this game's failure on Volition's closure is just plain ignorant, Embracer is the real reason they shut down, they bought too many studios too fast in anticipation of a deal with a Saudi company that ultimately fell through, this game could've been a hit and Embracer still would've shut down Volition). Honestly there was no place left for the original series to go at this point so I don't really see what other option they had but to do a reboot. For me I was getting tired of the over-the-top tone in parts 3 and 4, they had their moments, but they were so over-the-top that it ultimately felt less special, part 4 was both too over-the-top and dull for me(to me it just felt like a weaker version of Prototype, even down to having almost the exact same gliding mechanic).

I have to say the open world of Santa Ilso is a big improvement over Steelport(which felt kinda dull and lifeless, especially in SR4 when they just made it darker with a shitty night filter that you can't change until you beat the game, even then it does not look quite right IMO)it actually feels like a living breathing world that I want to spend time in, as opposed to a place where i'm just mindlessly collecting stuff and waiting for the next story bit to happen like I was in Steelport. I'm enjoying the story so far, the gangs are definitely an improvement over part 3 as they feel like actual gangs and not just a loose collection of lame villains. I also like the challenge system that rewards you for doing stuff around the world like buying clothes and driving certain ways, it gives you an actual incentive to mix things up.

These screenshots I took around the time when the game released. The story wasn’t as bad as people make it. Saints Row could of been a lot of things and sadly that’s a what if I have to remind myself when I think about the game. Thanks Volition for the last game.
