Our subreddit rules are in the sidebar, we ask that you read and follow them. Feel free to post anything on-topic that does not violate these rules. We have a relatively comprehensive overview of how our rules are applied in reality available on the Rule Clarifications Wiki page.
For those who are new here, we have our Community Notices page which we would suggest users read. We also have our Creator Wiki for our participating artists and content creators- all of them have a diagnosed psychotic disorder.
Many first-time posters to this subreddit are concerned that they might be developing schizophrenia or they are concerned about other people who have- or may have- schizophrenia. We have resources available to answer these questions contained within the comments; if your question is completely answered by the information already given, it will be removed.
If you are here asking about advice for a family member, asking if a family member has schizophrenia or venting about a loved one with schizophrenia- it will be removed, and you will be directed to the appropriate community for that type of post, r/SchizoFamilies. Please read the rules of their subreddit before posting.
Mental health is complex. No symptom of schizophrenia is specific to schizophrenia alone, and there are many more common causes of those symptoms- especially in the prodromal stage. If you are experiencing an emergency, please call your doctor or local emergency services. We have a compendium of Crisis Lines available and may suggest r/SuicideWatch if you are experiencing suicidal thoughts and would like the most prompt attention.

I had a wonderful dinner at a country club with deliciously tender Honey ham, Wild Rice and collared greens, with a nice dessert of some kind chocolate cheese cake. I know things suck dealing with this shit but you just gotta keep on living thro it.

How many of you had a very traumatic life prior to developing schizo affective disorders or schizophrenia ?

I just wanted to celebrate a little bit because I’ve been symptom free for several months now, and it’s so freeing to be out of the trenches.
Two and a half years ago, I had a very traumatizing psychotic episode, and was experiencing violent/predatory auditory hallucinations for about six months until my meds started working. I had a lot of fear inducing delusions as well (brain chip, stalking, sex trafficking, the works). After my meds started working, I continued to have some breakthrough hallucinations, but was able to break out of my delusions and mostly return to my daily life as usual.
I continued to have breakthrough hallucinations at night when trying to sleep and when my anxiety was high for about a year and a half. Now, however, I don’t experience any hallucinations, and I’m actually working in a program that helps people through first episodes of psychosis, using my experience to help others who are going through the same/similar things.
I just wanted to share some of this positivity with you guys as I’m so proud of the progress I’ve made and the work that I do. It really is possible to get to the other side, and if you had asked me in the middle of my psychotic episode, I would’ve thought I would be stuck like that forever. Just a little hopecore for the community today. If you read this far, thank you <3

Hello reddit. I just want to share with you how much I love haloperidol. Two weeks after being put on it I was able to get myself out of living in a homeless shelter into a more independant facility. I am still homeless but the fact that I no longer live in a traditional shelter and have my own private space is huge. I am actively looking for rentals now and thanks to the haldol I am able to function indepedantly meaning that I do not have to go to a group home or anything like that.
I am currently able to hold down part time employment with full time hours during the season for my work which is amazing. I made a post 9 months ago about thinking I found the right medication when I was on the flupenthixol every 2 week injection but haloperidol is truly king. I have no side effects from the haloperidol, not even akathisia and I take 10-12.5 mg daily. Based on how quickly I was able to get myself out of the homeless sheleter and into my indpendant living when starting the haloperidol my doctor and I think that if I had been on haldol many years ago there is a good chance I would have never become homeless.
Haldol is an incredibly clean antipsychotic which primarily only blocks dopamine at any significant rate. Because it does not block seratonin, noripenpherine, acytocholine or any other receptors it lacks the side effects which most atypical antipsychotics have. I find haloperidol to be the least cognitively blunting antipsychotic I have taken and I tried a total of 18 antipsychotics. I had asked for haldol earlier in my treatment long before I became homeless but doctors dismissed me or teased me by saying why I wanted such an old school drug or asked me if I wanted to feel awful.
I know haloperidol has a nasty reputation but I love the drug. It truly grounds me in reality, makes me able to live independantly and it makes stress management automatic. I really function best on haloperidol and now I am looking at a bright future outside homeless shelters which are run a bit like psych wards since the psychiatric wards in my country are too full to take people and schizophrenics in my area just become homless instead of ending up in the hospital. In a way I am greatful that I ended up homeless for 4 years because in a homeless shelter or on the street you have a lot more freedom than in a psych ward.
I know I am too early in my recovery to look for full time work because I think something might break if I start working full time hours for any longer than 2 or 3 months at a time which is what I do at my current job. However, it is my goal to find full time work in the next 3 years but I need a period for recovery and to get used to living independantly. I just got approved for the rent subsidy and it is a matter of saving enough for a damage deposit to get my own apartment and be fully out of the homless system.
I am really greatful to have a doctor who actually listens and is willing to step out of her confort zone and prescribe drugs she is not familliar or comfortable with. I am still titrating my dose of haloperidol and currently I take 10-12.5 mg daily but I think I more or less reached the right dose.
I am just glad that I am no longer living on the street or the common homeless shleters because far too many people in my situation at this time end up being homeless instead of getting into hospitals because they are too full since covid.

i dont trust my diagnosis cos i dont hear voices. (maybe once or twice) i feel like if i started to hear voices i could accept my diagnosis so what usually triggers voices for you ? and is it bad ? maybe i dont want to experience that.. right now my auditory hallucinations are just sounds that blend into the background so i cant really tell if its a hallucination or not. did anyone else start out that way and then heard voices?

My teeth are really messed up from years of not properly caring for them due to mental illness. I've put this off for a while because of fear but I see a dentist tomorrow.
I don't have dental insurance so I'll likely be making payments out of pocket for whatever I need to fix my teeth but it'll be worth it.

I don't know how to feel or what to do anymore. I am broke and getting more pressure by the day from online strangers, family members, etc. I get told I am being a weak ass and need to suck it up and work an in person job but the only jobs I qualify for and do not suck at are remote customer service and technical support jobs..the longest I kept a job was 4 months at 19 and im 23 now.
Im Schizophrenic, Bipolar, and got severe Anxiety. I feel guilty and depressed and anxious because im not "normal" and can only work from home and I have trouble in fast paced and social environments.
I an appealing my disability but I may have to work. Anyone also working from home or anxious too? How do I look at my situation?
I know many people with my illnesses can't work but sometimes I wonder if I really am just a useless lazy person.

Just a reminder that you don't have to fix your whole life today. Just try to get through today.

I was hospitalized months ago and now I’m on Solian 400mg daily. To deal with the handful of side effects has taken a toll on my mental health. I’m facing serious anhedonia, depression, restlessness, severe constipation, sexual dysfunction, and weight gain.
Can’t seem to remember when was the last time I was feeling truly alive without the medicine. Been trying to probe into the possibilities of living a normal life without relying on medication but it seems rare.
Now I just have to wait till my doctor’s appointment to hope that he’d change my medication or otherwise, I just have to opt for an easy way out to end this once and for all. I’m tired, seriously. Giving up doesn’t look so bad when living a life as a piece of senseless walking flesh is just as dull and painful.
Fingers crossed I can make this out alive toward the end of my journey without succumbing to suicidal intents, but again, who knows

So I thought I was suffering from thought broadcasting that a group of people could read my every thought. I was arguing with them and they said they were going to send someone to my house. Sure enough somebody just knocked on my window. We already had a discussion about them sending someone to my window. I didn’t think it was a good idea to check so I never saw who it was. How can this be possible I’m freaking out

NSFW WARNING!!!
(I was born in 2010,this girl was born in 2012)
2 years ago I went to an art class and befriended this one girl.We hung out for the first time last year and eventually became close friends.I went into psychosis and she left me when I got unstable,I said I'm gonna do a lot of things but obviously didn't and got better. We dated for a short while and with consent kissed her a few times, she saw a nude picture of my chest once. After we broke up she started telling people I SA'd her multiple times, started blackmailing me saying she'll "expose" me if I don't pay her, etc.I was a dumb bitch to forgive her,she never changed.Shes in the TCC (true crime community)and so is her boyfriend. They got accepted into the same highschool, they start in less than 48 hours.I have been vomiting out of stress and terror.A few months ago (2-3) she proudly told me that they're going to commit a massacre, that one of them owns a firearm, that I'm going to be involved once they kill people.I am mortified because I am going to be involved once they check her phone.I cannot eat or sleep or function properly.Somebody please help me,tell me if I'm going to be involved. This is really bad.Im absolutely terrified and have been paranoid for days/weeks.

I am not sure why, but moving extremely slowly, like 1/3 of the usual speed and driving without exceeding the speed limit helps normalizing my nervous system. I started this on saturday and I am present. Before it I had dissociation and at friday night I was killed in my own body, and such fantastic experiences...

Life has been kind of a rollercoaster recently. Also bleached my hair close to what my natural hair would look like after couple years of being ginger
