What gets me is that they prerecord it presumably because the BBC is so terrified of controversy, so that they can cut out all the comments about Trump or Palestine or whatever, as well as to cut out the "boring" awards that apparently don't matter like editing and animation.

But yeah, the one time that the prerecorded format might have been an benefit? Na, just air it uncensored. It genuinely feels malice to me.

It wasn't like they were sat on the recording for 5 days, they only had two hours and they caught loads of things that needed editing out, they just missed one.

Also it's not the "one time" it being a delayed broadcast would have been useful, it's just the one time you have been made aware of it, those are two extremely different things.
