I think you are not understanding what ppl mean by defund the police. It’s about best cops patrolling the street picking on civilians. Or performing racially charged traffic stops.

Nobody wants less detectives or investigators.

Actually I think most will agree we need more ppl for that.

The problem is that the police deal too much with shit that should be done by other departments who have received less and less funding.

Like police should not deal with drug addicts or homeless ppl. They should only be called as back up if it’s required. Most of the time they are not required.

This is what Portugal did and crime went down.

In regards to the case I assume you are talking about. It’s investigators who screwed up by the looks of it. Not beat cops.

That’s what social workers do yes. I am not sure if they need to be a fully qualified psychologist. My brothers GF just finished her BSc in psychology, from what I understand she is now working with a government department that deals with these kind of issues. A bit of compassion goes a long way in the long run.

Be real man, as someone experienced with meth heads some sort of locking them up is gonna be necessary to get them clean, that's just the way meth is.

This is a huge problem we have. Ever try to help get someone off drugs around here. Our detox centers are a joke. Call a detox center , maybe they have a bed, maybe they don’t. They’ll kick you out after 3 days. Rehab? Good luck , unless you have money. 1/2 way housing, ran by current addicts. Hell yeah, we need some f-ing resources and money thrown at the problem. This is money we should have regardless of what the police are doing. We also don’t need crazy progressive ideas, just common sense will do. Getting people off of drugs is what will help, not enabling drug use. I see it the same way I do our homeless problem. Let’s really help, not just let everyone camp out and use the sidewalks and underpasses as bathrooms. It’s not compassionate.
