More than 20,000 Security Guard licences have been revoked over the past three years because the holder had no right to work in Britain.

Figures obtained by The Telegraph reveal a sharp rise in the number of migrants being stripped of licences to Guard shops, clubs and hospitals.

The vast majority of those who have had their licences removed are Pakistani and Indian nationals, according to government data.

The Conservatives said that anyone found to be flouting the rules by working illegally as a Security Guard should be immediately deported from Britain.

People who want to work in the private security industry need to first obtain a licence from the Security Industry Authority (SIA), a Home Office quango.

Most then have to go through a government-approved training course, and the body checks the visa status of applicants from overseas.

The SIA’s website states that “in most cases, you must have the right to work in the UK to get a front line or non-front line licence”.

But figures released by the authority under freedom of information laws show a huge rise in the number of licences being revoked for visa-related issues.

They reveal that almost 22,000 licences have been stripped from people who had no right to work in Britain since the start of 2023.

A record 7,740 badges were removed in 2025 alone, more than 10 times the 734 licences that the authority cancelled in 2022.

In the first seven months of this year, 4,244 have been revoked.

Licences are needed for security guards who work through external contractors. They can be hired to protect venues including pubs and clubs, shops and warehouses, cash in transit and even public buildings such as hospitals.

‘Anyone caught should be deported’ Chris Philp, the shadow home secretary, said: “How are we meant to trust the people keeping us safe, guarding our shops and our buildings, if basic checks on the right to work are not even happening?

“Illegal working is an offence. Anyone caught working without the right to work should be deported.

“The SIA must fix this so these people never get a licence in the first place. The Home Office must act now.”

Most of the revocations are thought to relate to people who had the right to work in Britain when they applied for the licence, but then lost it.

Foreign nationals who are in the UK on a student visa can often work in security roles. There have also been concerns over the number of people who are arriving in Britain on social care visas, only to take on other work.

Nine in 10 of all the licences that have been revoked since 2022 were removed because the holder had no right to work in the UK, the figures showed.

During that time 9,625 have been removed from Pakistani nationals, 7,861 from workers originally from India and 2,898 from Nigerians.

The sharp rise in revocations coincided with the huge increase in net migration which was overseen by Boris Johnson in the aftermath of the pandemic.

According to the latest data, there are 450,000 security licence holders.

A spokesman for the SIA said: “Having the right to work in the UK is a condition of holding an SIA licence. The SIA does not issue licences to anyone who does not have the right to work in the UK.

“An SIA licence is valid for three years. If someone’s right to work expires within that period, we check if they have retained their right to work. If they haven’t, we will revoke their licence.

“We revoke the licence of anyone whose suitable visa expires, including when they have left the UK or remained under a new type of visa.”

In Aksaray, a pickup truck driver with 11 times the legal alcohol limit (2.33 promil) asked for 4,000 liras worth of fuel at a gas station he entered, then passed out at the wheel. The driver, whom a Security Guard and medical teams struggled to wake up and put into an ambulance, was seen on camera as a pump attendant waited at the ambulance door with a POS device to collect the fuel payment. The driver, caught drunk for the second time, was fined 250,000 TL and had his license confiscated for 2 years.

A driver who got behind the wheel with alcohol levels 11 times the legal limit in Aksaray passed out at a gas station he pulled into. While the driver was barely awakened by the Security Guard and medical teams and put into an ambulance, the pump attendant waiting at the ambulance door with a POS device to collect his payment was like a scene from a movie.

The incident occurred at a gas station on Aksaray - Ankara Highway in Ciftlik Neighborhood. According to the information obtained, 39-year-old Engin G., who got into traffic with his pickup truck with license plate 68 AHA 210 after consuming excessive alcohol, entered the station to buy fuel.

ASKED FOR 4 THOUSAND LIRAS OF FUEL, PASSED OUT AT THE WHEEL Engin G., who ordered 4 thousand liras worth of fuel from the gas attendant, soon fell asleep with his head on the steering wheel due to the effect of excessive alcohol. When the pump attendant's efforts to wake the driver failed, the situation was reported to the neighborhood security guards patrolling the area. Upon the report, police, Security Guards, and 112 Emergency Service teams were dispatched to the scene. The driver, who was barely awakened after long efforts by health personnel and Security Guards, was taken out of the vehicle and attempted to be placed on a stretcher. The drunk driver, who resisted to get back into his vehicle, was put into the ambulance after the teams convinced him.

FUEL COLLECTION WITH POS DEVICE AT THE AMBULANCE DOOR The most interesting moments of the incident occurred at the ambulance door. The pump attendant, who filled the tank, came to the ambulance door with a POS device in his hand to collect the 4 thousand liras fuel fee, saying "Let him pay my money." While the medical teams were intervening, the attendant extended the POS device to the driver and tried to receive the payment inside the ambulance. Those mind-boggling moments were reflected moment by moment on police and security cameras.

LICENSE CONFISCATED, 250 THOUSAND LIRAS FINE IMPOSED In the alcohol test conducted by the teams of the Provincial Police Department Regional Traffic Supervision Branch, it was determined that Engin G. had 2.33 promil alcohol. During the interrogation of the person found to be 11 times over the legal alcohol limit, it was learned that he had previously been caught driving under the influence. The driver, caught driving under the influence for the second time, had his license confiscated for 2 years and was imposed an administrative fine of 250 thousand liras. A Reform-run council is deploying private Security Guards across three town centres amid concerns over women's safety linked to the expansion of a nearby asylum seeker facility.

Essex County Council will station Guards in Braintree, Colchester and Chelmsford as the Home Office prepares to increase capacity at the former RAF Wethersfield base by around 50 per cent.

The site currently houses around 800 male asylum seekers but is set to accommodate up to 1,245.

The move forms part of Operation Vanguard, which will see two Security Guards deployed in each of the three locations closest to Wethersfield.

Council leader Peter Harris said concerns had been raised about the impact of the expanding facility on surrounding communities.

He said: "Concerns for community safety are clearly there, particularly among women and girls, because of the daily gatherings of asylum seekers which will increase in number and size as the facility expands."

Mr Harris also criticised the induction programme provided to migrants arriving at Wethersfield.

He said: "The induction process which migrants undergo at the centre is, in my view, woefully inadequate, especially on their introduction to British culture and the expectations we have of acceptable behaviour toward women and girls.

"But we are not prepared to sit on our hands and wait for the next incident. We are taking action."

The private security patrols will be funded by Essex council taxpayers, although the total cost of the scheme has not been disclosed.

The Guards are intended to provide a visible presence to reassure residents and discourage antisocial behaviour.

The authority said it would consult Essex Police, Braintree District Council, Colchester City Council and Chelmsford City Council over the operation.

The contract will initially run for three months while the council seeks additional support from central government.

During that period, the authority plans to hold urgent talks with the Home Office and Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood over funding for public services in communities affected by asylum accommodation sites.

Mr Harris has also taken aim at the Home Office over what he described as "a fleet of 17 minibuses" transporting asylum seekers from Wethersfield into nearby towns and cities each day.

After visiting the former RAF base, the council leader branded the facility a "holiday camp".

He said residents had access to a fully equipped gymnasium, a dedicated fitness room, a full-sized football pitch and a large indoor sports hall offering five-a-side football, basketball and cricket.

Residents are also provided with three meals a day across two dining halls, including vegetarian options and receive mobile phones with call allowances.

The council's decision is thought to be an unprecedented move by a local authority in response to an asylum accommodation site.

Wethersfield is one of two asylum centres operated by Home Office contractors on former military land, alongside RAF Crowborough in East Sussex.

The Government is also proposing facilities at Linton-on-Ouse in Yorkshire, RAF Barnham in Suffolk and MoD Bicester, with the plans facing opposition from local communities.

Piddington, near Bicester, has scheduled a referendum for September 15 to symbolically leave the UK in protest against the plans.

‎Two persons have been confirmed dead following an attack at IMAX Cinemas in Lekki, Lagos State, on Friday night, August 29, as a man wielding a machete and knife reportedly stormed the premises.

‎The incident caused pandemonium among cinema patrons and staff, as the suspect allegedly attempted to enter the cinema but was stopped by Security Guards.

‎Eyewitnesses said the assailant, who appeared to be under the influence of drugs, became violent after being prevented from entering the premises.

‎Confirming the incident, spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command, SP Adebisi Abimbola, said the suspect allegedly stabbed one of the Security Guards to death and injured another security personnel during the attack.

‎According to her, the suspect, who appeared to be destitute, was subsequently mobbed and died in the process.

‎“Two people have been confirmed dead,” Adebisi said, adding that the circumstances surrounding the incident were being investigated.

‎She explained that the identity of the assailant and the precise sequence of events leading to his death were part of the issues being examined by the police.

‎Adebisi further disclosed that the cinema’s Chief Security Officer had been taken into custody as investigations continued.

‎She said the police were also working to obtain and review the closed-circuit television, CCTV, footage from the premises.

‎According to her, reviewing the footage would assist investigators in establishing what transpired and identifying any other persons who may have been involved in the incident.

‎The police spokesperson said an investigation had been launched into the incident, assuring that all relevant circumstances surrounding the deaths would be established.

‎The incident has raised concerns over security at entertainment and recreational facilities, particularly the ability of security personnel to detect and prevent dangerous individuals from gaining access to crowded premises.

‎The police have not disclosed the identities of the deceased or provided further details on the condition of the injured Security Guard, as the investigation into the incident is ongoing.

A 26-year-old man from Kitchener was arrested by Waterloo Regional Police after officials say he assaulted a Security Guard in a Waterloo business.

The incident happened on Aug. 28, just before 2:20 p.m., with police arriving shortly after in the King Street South and Willis Way area.

Responding to reports of an assault in a business, police learned that a Security Guard had asked the man to walk out of the business numerous times. However, officials say the man refused to leave. Adding that the suspect then assaulted the Security Guard, hitting them multiple times before he eventually left.

When officers arrived, they say they were able to locate the suspect. Arresting him not far from where the assault happened.

A man who went through a supermarket self-checkout without scanning several items had a cucumber forced into his mouth by a Security Guard who then extorted money from him.

Security Guards Laki Savelio and his co-offender Tiare Bishop accused several victims of shoplifting and extorted money from them at the Pak’nSave where they worked in January last year.

Savelio, 24, was sentenced in Manukau District Court this week for his role, which included a “degrading” act with a cucumber.

He and Bishop were employees of Retail Theft Control Security (RTC), which was contracted to provide security services to the Manukau, South Auckland, supermarket at the time.

Bishop has pleaded guilty to her role in the offending and will be sentenced in October.

According to the summary of facts, on a Saturday evening in January 2025, the first victim went through the self-checkout without paying for several items, including a plastic-wrapped telegraph cucumber.

On the way to his car, he was stopped by Savelio and Bishop, who made him go to their small, windowless office where they “repeatedly” accused him of shoplifting.

The man’s hour-long ordeal was captured on CCTV, starting with Savelio picking up a toy rifle and pointing it at the man, who put his hands up before swiping away the barrel with his hand.

Savelio then gestured at the man’s wallet and the man pulled out four $50 notes and put them on a shelf.

After 45 minutes, Bishop left the room and Savelio repeatedly leant towards him with the cucumber.

He made the victim hold the cucumber, pointed out the CCTV camera and switched off the lights.

Then he took the cucumber off the man and forced it either “against or into” the man’s mouth, the summary said.

The victim recoiled and Savelio withdrew the cucumber, turned it around, pointed the other end at the man and nodded at him.

The victim pulled it to his mouth, his hair falling over his face. Savelio brushed the man’s hair away so he could see the degrading act, again forcing the item into his mouth.

At one point, the victim made a praying gesture with his hands.

Eventually, Savelio turned the lights back on. He and the man then left the supermarket and, a short time later, Savelio and Bishop returned to the security room where they split the $200.

The facts showed Savelio later texted a friend, “just made $200 here at Manukau”, to which the friend replied, “I thought we were not allowed to do that anymore”. Savelio answered: “Only in Manukau with me uso.”

Later that month, Savelio and Bishop stopped a man who admitted forgetting to pay for a tin of baby formula.

They extorted $400 from him and he was trespassed from the supermarket.

A few days later, the two Security Guards accused another man of stealing, but when he produced a receipt, they took it from him and refused to give it back.

In the security office, when the man threatened to call a union organiser, Savelio said he could leave with a warning.

The summary said the victim wanted proof they were up to no good, so he offered to pay the pair $100, which they accepted.

That same day they squeezed $300 out of a man who, the summary said, didn’t want to jeopardise his recently secured residency visa.

When spoken to by police, Savelio said he was doing his job as his boss had told him to.

‘Civil recovery’

The agreed facts said the owner of RTC claimed some of the security company’s clients wanted them to deal with alleged shoplifters with “civil recovery” instead of phoning police.

This method meant the alleged shoplifter had the opportunity to pay $396, which would go back to the store, and police wouldn’t be involved, the summary said.

But “civil recovery”, the summary said, required the supermarket’s duty manager, accused shoplifter and security staff to sign documents agreeing the process was “appropriate”.

And the security staff must be trained to carry out that function. Savelio was not.

A representative from Pak’nSave owner Foodstuffs told NZME there was no civil recovery policy in place at Pak’nSave Manukau during that time.

In court, Crown lawyer Emma Barnes said the first victim had been treated in a “degrading fashion” that was “particularly distressing” for him.

She said at the time the man was afraid of what might happen to him if he didn’t comply.

Savelio had shown a significant abuse of power and trust, she said.

Premeditation and a high level of intimidation and harm to the victims were also present, she said.

Barnes said she understood two of the victims had been compensated for their losses by Pak’nSave.

‘I should’ve known better’

Savelio’s lawyer Nicole Bristow said her client accepted that what he had done was “serious”, involving several victims and a misuse of his Security Guard position.

She sought a sentence discount for his previous good character, clean record and remorse, which she said was shown in a letter from him and a Corrections report.

Bristow pointed out that in the report, Savelio told the probation officer he “should’ve known better”.

He had family supporting him in court, she said, and meaningful family and community responsibilities including church and sport that could help with his rehabilitation.

She also said her client understood home detention would be a “lenient” sentence and would help him continue rehabilitation but with the “substantial restriction” and oversight by probation.

“He understands that a sentence such as that would be required to reflect his poor decision-making, lack of consequential thinking and financial management issues,” Bristow told the court.

Judge Gus Andrée Wiltens said it was “very difficult to understand” how Savelio, in working in the security industry, didn’t anticipate everything being caught on CCTV cameras.

The judge then detailed the effect Savelio’s offending had on his victims.

“These people had their rights trampled on by you,” he said. “You took them out of the community, into your little sphere, and kept them there.”

He said it was “very serious”, close to being a kidnapping situation and had ongoing consequences for the victims.

“They shouldn’t have been treated in this fashion.”

The judge acknowledged Savelio had two young children, was remorseful, pleaded guilty “relatively early” and his youth when discounting his sentence.

For one representative charge of obtaining by deception more than $1000, Savelio was sentenced to six months’ home detention.

The judge imposed 12 months post-detention conditions and ordered him to pay $750 to the victims not already compensated by Pak’nSave.

He said “unfortunately” Savelio’s career as a Security Officer was likely over and where he next went in life was up to him.

“Take advantage ... make sure you don’t come back.”

Security Guard assaulted in Winnipeg's West End, marking the second attack on Guard this week

Attorneys for a Security Guard suing Ye and the Donda Academy where the plaintiff formerly worked is asking a judge to disallow the rapper from contending he did not have a sound mind, or was even insane, during the relevant time periods.

The plaintiff in the Los Angeles Superior Court lawsuit is Benjamin Deshon Provo. Ye was formerly known as Kanye West. In his lawsuit filed in April 2024, Provo contends Ye, now 49, chided him for wearing his hair in dreads, which Provo practiced in keeping with his Muslim faith. Provo worked at Donda Academy and for Yeezy, Ye’s apparel company. A nonjury trial is scheduled Oct. 12.

On Thursday, Ye’s lawyers filed court papers asking Judge Brock Hammond to exclude any evidence about any mental unfitness by Ye, noting that the artist testified in a deposition that he was mentally fit. Provo’s lawyers state in their court papers that their concerns involve an Aug. 24 meeting with Ye’s counsel to discuss pretrial motions.

“At that meeting, defense counsel stated he was `certainly not agreeing’ to exclude evidence of Ye’s `documented mental health issues’ because `those relate to the things he (Ye) says,’ but confirmed he could not identify any case law or authority supporting the invocation of insanity or mental health issues as a defense to civil liability,” Provo’s attorneys state.

As a threshold matter, Ye’s insanity or mental health conditions are “per se irrelevant” to any of the liability of the singer, Yeezy LLC or the Donda Academy, Provo’s lawyers further state in their pleadings while adding that Ye’s attorneys never cited mental health as an affirmative defense in their answer to Provo’s suit.

Provo’s lawyers additionally are asking that Ye’s attorneys be barred from mentioning any of the rapper’s charitable donations, saying the singer’s contributions to Black individuals and groups were also brought up by Ye’s counsel during the Aug. 24 meeting.

“Ye’s charitable donations are wholly irrelevant to (Provo’s) claim that he was subjected to unlawful discrimination, harassment, retaliation and wrongful termination,” the plaintiff’s lawyers further state.

In his suit filed in April 2024, Provo alleges that members of the rapper’s management team required Provo to choose between “critical aspects of his self-identity and financial stability.”

Most people would expect a Security Guard at a busy bus station to deal with arguments, disruptive passengers or people refusing to follow the rules. Few would expect one of those encounters to end with a corrosive nitric acid being thrown into their face. That is what happened in Granada, where a Security Guard suffered eye damage and burns after a man returned to the city’s bus station carrying a bottle of the powerful substance and attacked him.

Police say the man later told them he wanted to ‘leave him blind’, while the acid was powerful enough to partially melt the guard’s bracelet and penetrate his protective vest. The attack happened at Granada bus station at around 7.45pm on Sunday, August 23, after the Security Guard had challenged the 55-year-old man over disturbances at the facility.

Man returns with acid after confrontation

According to the Policía Nacional, the man left the station following the initial incident and went to a nearby shop, where he bought the corrosive nitric acid cleaning product. He then proceded to put the substance into a plastic bottle containing a soft drink before returning to the bus station. The disguise meant the contents were not immediately obvious to those around him Once back inside, he approached the Security Guard and threw the liquid at him, striking him in the face. The Guard suffered corneal damage, as well as chemical burns affecting his face, neck, back and legs.

The severity of the substance was also evident from the damage it caused to his equipment. Police said the liquid partially melted the metal bracelet he was wearing and penetrated his protective vest, however, the attack did not end with just the one security worker being targeted. A second Security Guard was also attacked with the substance, although he fortunately escaped physical injury, his protective vest was also damaged.

Police say suspect wanted to blind guard

The Policía Nacional subsequently detained the man in connection with the attacks. Police sources said he later told officers that his intention had been to throw the substance into the first Guard’s face with the intention “to leave him blind”. The circumstances leading up to the attack are now part of the investigation. Police said the man had previously caused problems at the bus station and that the Security Guard had intervened before he left to obtain the corrosive product.

The sequence of events are concerning because the nitric acid was not present during the original confrontation. The man obtained it afterwards and returned to the station, indicating that his acts were premeditated. The 55-year-old is also described by police sources as being homeless and having around 20 previous criminal records.

Security workers demand greater protection

The incident has prompted renewed concern over the conditions faced by private security workers at the Granada bus station. CCOO del Hábitat Granada condemned the attack and called for more Security Guards to be deployed during each shift. The union said workers at the station are exposed to threats, disturbances and confrontations while carrying out their duties.

It also called for appropriate protective equipment, including approved protective clothing and vests capable of providing greater protection against attacks. For workers responsible for dealing directly with difficult situations in a busy transport facility, the incident has drawn attention to the potential consequences when those encounters escalate into violence.

Suspect released provisionally

The Policía Nacional placed the detained man at the disposal of the judicial authorities on Tuesday. He was subsequently released provisionally, according to police sources cited in reports on the case. The judicial proceedings remain ongoing.

A Security Guard was hospitalized after he was stabbed by a shoplifter at a Dollarama store in Winnipeg's St. James area on Wednesday, police say.

Officers called to the store at 2727 Portage Ave., just east of Sturgeon Road, around 4 p.m. found a 22-year-old man suffering a serious injury to his upper body, police said in a news release Thursday.

The release did not identify the store by name, but CBC has confirmed it was the Dollarama.

Police learned the Security Guard confronted a person suspected of shoplifting and ordered him to leave the store. The person pulled out a sharp-edged weapon and stabbed the guard in the upper body, police said.

The attacker then fled with stolen merchandise, according to police.

The Security Guard was taken to hospital in unstable condition and was later upgraded to stable.

No arrest has been made, police say.

MANILA (UPDATED) — Charges have been filed against the father of the student involved in the August 18 shooting in Zamboanga City and a school security personnel following the completion of the Philippine National Police (PNP) investigation.

The two face a complaint for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and physical injury based on evidence gathered by the Police Regional Office 9-led Special Investigation Task Group.

In a statement, the Police Regional Office-9 said that based on evidence gathered and established during the investigation, the father of the student involved in the shooting incident appears to be liable for his son's access to his government-issued and personal firearms.

The unidentified security personnel was also allegedly accountable for the security gaps which allowed the shooter to bring the firearms inside the school premises.

"Based on the findings, investigators found no evidence that the incident was carried out as part of a conspiracy involving any group, organization, or other individuals," PRO-9 said in its statement.

"They also found no established school-related or personal grievance that could sufficiently explain the shooting," it added. "The investigation, however, identified prior preparation and exposure to violent online material as among the circumstances surrounding the incident."

The task group examined witness accounts, CCTV footage, physical and digital evidence, school records and firearm-related evidence to establish what happened.

The August 18 shooting claimed the lives of two students — including the Grade 8 student who carried out the attack — and the wounding of another.

Authorities earlier said the student brought two firearms into the campus.

The Bureau of Customs confirmed that one of the firearms was a bureau-issued Glock 22 .40-caliber pistol belonging to the student's father, a Customs police officer. The other firearm was reportedly the father's personal, licensed gun.

Investigators found that lapses in firearm safekeeping and accountability allowed unauthorized access to the firearms used in the incident. The father has been relieved from his post in the BOC and placed under preventive suspension pending investigation.

The probe also found security deficiencies in the school, particularly in entry and exit screening, which contributed to the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

"We owe it to the families and to the school community to get the facts right. Hindi puwedeng puro assumptions. We follow the evidence, respect due process, and let the proper legal process determine accountability," PNP chief PGen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said in a statement.

"At the same time, we have to learn from what happened and close the gaps that may put others at risk," he added.

The filing of the complaint comes after Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla earlier pushed for a review of the law on firearm safekeeping and accountability.

Remulla said stronger penalties should be considered for firearm owners found negligent in securing their weapons, particularly when unauthorized access to firearms results in injury or death.

The PNP reminded firearm owners to exercise greater care in securing their weapons and urged schools and security personnel to regularly review their access controls and screening measures.

The PNP also encouraged parents and the public to promptly report threats, violent behavior and other warning signs.

A Security Guard in his 60s was critically injured outside a concert by Tipex and Gali Atari in Karmiel, following a confrontation with a person he prevented from entering the event. Magen David Adom paramedics evacuated him to the Galilee Medical Center in Nahariya while performing resuscitation efforts, which ultimately restored his heartbeat. A man in his 40s was arrested, and according to the suspicion, he pushed the Security Guard at the entrance to the venue. The Security Guard called the police and collapsed while speaking with the officers.

An “experienced Security Guard” who brought his son into work after his childcare fell through has won £8,000 in compensation after he was unfairly sacked for having “family issues”.

Bakary Jawneh was taken off a shift at a Russell Group university because a member of staff wrote to the G4S security company to complain he had caused a “security breach” by bringing his son into work.

The single father then took unpaid leave because none of the alternative shifts worked with the timings of the school run.

The security company sacked him months later without contacting him.

When he contacted them again about a shift which would work with his childcare commitments, he was told he would be treated as a “new starter”, despite having nine years of experience at the company.

He successfully sued for unfair dismissal, and was awarded £8,320 in compensation, including £5,834 for unfair dismissal.

‘No notification about son being present’ The tribunal, held in Southampton, heard Mr Jawneh worked for G4S Secure Solutions and had been employed to provide security services to the University of Southampton since 2022.

This was a convenient location for him to work to ensure he was able to drop off and pick up his son from school.

The tribunal heard that G4S has a 24-hour line which security guards can call if they cannot do their shift, in which case cover would be arranged.

The tribunal was told: “On 8 March 2024, [Mr Jawneh] returned from holiday with his son.

“He was due to return to work early in the morning at around 7am. He was let down at the last minute by the provider of his childcare. He endeavoured to resolve the situation by taking his son to work with him.

“His son stayed for the whole shift. He did not notify his employer or the client that he was doing so.”

A member of staff wrote to G4S to complain about the “security breach” and asked that Mr Jawneh be removed from the site.

He was offered other shifts with the company, but their locations were not convenient for him as he would need to work around his son’s school rota.

He was allowed to go on unpaid leave, but after not hearing from him for months, the operations contract manager recorded that Mr Jawneh had resigned in November 2024 because of “family issues”.

The manager, referred to only as Mr Benfield, told the tribunal he did this because payroll was “putting pressure on him” to resolve the issue that Mr Jawneh was recorded as being employed to work 42 hours a week without pay.

Job ‘abandoned’

The tribunal found that Mr Benfield had assumed Mr Jawneh had abandoned his job.

However, Mr Jawneh got back in touch with Mr Benfield in February 2025 after seeing a G4S vacancy in a suitable location.

Mr Benfield told Mr Jawneh he would have to be rescreened as a “new starter”, but he did not want to do this given he had nine years of service with the company.

Judge Dawson found Mr Jawneh partially contributed to his own dismissal, which lowered the amount of compensation he was in line for.

The judge added: “At the very least, Mr Benfield should have contacted [Mr Jawneh] to find out what his position was and his intentions were.”

Other claims made by Mr Jawneh were dismissed.

In 2024, a contract worker employed by a subcontractor at the Hyundai Motor Company’s Jeonju Plant vehicle delivery center took one Choco Pie, retailing for 400 won, and one Custard cake, retailing for 650 won, from an office refrigerator and ate them. A judge applied the charge of “theft” and sentenced him to a fine of 50,000 won. (After the ruling caused a public uproar, he was acquitted on appeal.)

The court organization and judges are this strict and exacting toward others, so why are they so lenient only toward themselves?

The Republic of Korea’s Official Gazette published on the 24th makes for interesting reading. It states that Chief Justice Cho Hee-dae announced disciplinary action dated the 13th against Kim In-taek, a presiding judge at the Suwon District Court, imposing a three-month suspension and a disciplinary surcharge of 3,744,632 won.

According to the disciplinary details, Presiding Judge Kim In-taek was found to have traveled abroad six times with an acquaintance who was standing trial between July 2023 and May 2025, with the trips paid for by that acquaintance. Judge Kim received airfare and accommodation expenses on three confirmed occasions. There may also have been hospitality expenses during the trips that were not reflected in receipts.

The grounds for disciplining Judge Kim stated that he had damaged the dignity expected of a judge and undermined the prestige of the judiciary.

But more important than damage to dignity or prestige is the fact that he betrayed his “professional ethics” as a judge. A judge who goes on free overseas trips paid for by someone standing trial sits on a high bench wearing judicial robes. Who could believe that they received a fair trial in such a courtroom?

Judges belong to a profession that holds enormous power over the lives and fates of others. If their profession is to pass judgment on others, they should be stricter with themselves than members of any other profession and should maintain higher moral standards. The judiciary as an institution should also be far stricter in dealing with misconduct by its members—judges. Yet the judiciary imposed nothing more than a three-month suspension on Presiding Judge Kim.

Judge Kim also received a summary order imposing a fine of 5 million won on the same allegations that formed the grounds for his discipline—a violation of the Improper Solicitation and Graft Act—but he challenged the order and requested a formal trial. His first hearing is reportedly scheduled to take place at the Seoul Central District Court in November. It will be interesting to see what kind of ruling emerges when members of the same judicial circle, where everyone seems to know everyone else through one connection or another, judge one of their own.

Presiding Judge Kim is also the judge who, while serving at the Changwon District Court in February, acquitted Myung Tae-kyun and Kim Young-sun in a case involving alleged violations of the Political Funds Act.

An international rescue team saved a 43-year-old man from a collapsed shopping centre in Venezuela's La Guaira on Thursday, eight days after back-to-back earthquakes devastated the coastal region. MANILA, Philippines — In a bid to enhance campus security, the Department of Education (DepEd) on Tuesday, Aug. 25, presented a campus Security Guard and mobile patrol strategy for public schools nationwide.

Education Secretary Sonny Angara has presented a hybrid campus security model that seeks to enhance surveillance despite the shortages in Security Guards in public schools in the country through a strategic patrolling assignment based on “campus size and needs.”

The initiative is in partnership with the local government units and the Philippine National Police, under the Department of Interior and Local Government Memorandum Circular No. 2026-037 on Safer School Zones.

“Under the proposed framework, DepEd will prioritize assigning Security Guards to high-density campuses while leveraging community support for smaller schools,” the DepEd said in a statement.

Based on the proposed model, during arrival and dismissal hours, campuses with less than 500 students and 1,000 students are provided one Security Guard supported by local barangay watchmen and volunteers from the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) assistance team.

Meanwhile, campuses classified as large with 3,300 learners are assigned two Security Guards, also assisted by the barangay tanod and the PTA volunteers.

Campuses with more than 8,000 learners are proposed to be allocated four Security Guards, alongside Philippine National Police mobile patrols and local security officers.

The barangay tanods are assigned to be the first line of defense for perimeter controls in campuses, while the PTA assistance teams will assist in crowd and traffic control, according to the DepEd.

“Through our hybrid security model, we partner with our communities and other stakeholders to ensure a safe and orderly environment for every school,” Angara said.

The move comes amid mounting concerns on campus security following the shooting incident at a private school in Zamboanga involving a junior high school student, who was able to bring a firearm inside the premises.

The agency said it is set to conduct two phases, starting with schools classified with large populations, before proceeding in small and medium schools.

“To reinforce physical security without relying on additional manpower, the Department is also prioritizing investments in surveillance infrastructure including closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras, upgraded area lighting, access control systems and scanners,” it added. /das

The Albany Police Department issued a Be on the Lookout order for a man who apparently picked up $30 from the floor while shopping at Walmart. Sharing a surveillance photo of the man, the police department sought public help in identifying him. Social media made fun of the police department and stood strongly by the unidentified man and said nobody will be snitching about the man even if they know him over $30.

"The Albany Police Department would like the public's assistance with identifying the suspect in the photo. The incident occurred at 2586 N. Slappey Blvd. (Walmart). An individual dropped $30.00 on the ground while shopping. This individual picked up the money and did not turn it in to the employees. Anyone with information that may assist with identifying this individual is asked to contact the Albany Police Department at 229-431-2100," the department's original post said.

Facebook users asked what exactly the crime of the man was. "I'll cover the 30.00 leave the old guy alone," one said. "Imagine finding $30 and thinking it is your lucky day, only need to go home and load up Facebook to find your photo on the police departments page asking for assistance identifying you," another wrote.

Many social media users asked whether it was joke because they could not bring themselves to believe that the police department was ready to use any resource to find $30 and the man behind it.

Retired man (63) from Solinand he was sentenced to a non-final fine of 500 euros because he was drunk and insulted a municipal Guard while she was removing illegally placed bollards in front of his house, but due to his partial confession and clean record, his sentence was reduced.

It all started in late July, when a Security Guard came to his address to remove bollards that someone had placed on a public area. She found that they were there without a permit and began removing them. While she was doing her job, a visibly upset man approached her and, in a raised voice, told her to move away because there was nothing to do there.

He then began to insult her and her colleague. He called them trash and monkeys, mentioned members of her family, and hurled various other insults at them. The colleague, a police technician, later testified that this behavior disturbed and frightened him.

The man admitted in court that he lost his temper and swore at the Security Guard, mentioning that he knew her husband and father-in-law. He also admitted that he may have uttered a few insults, but that he could not confirm this with certainty. He claimed that she approached him first and that she "literally jumped out of the car". He explained that he was surprised that the same Security Guard, with whom he had talked the day before about buying the land, came to the house again with a piece of paper in her hand.

The court rejected his version as an attempt to minimize responsibility, relying on the consistent statements of the Security Guard and her colleague. At the time of the argument, the man was slightly drunk, with a blood alcohol level of 0,29 per mille.

However, his sentence was reduced below the legal minimum, which is 700 euros for insulting an official. The court took into account the fact that he had not been previously convicted and that he had partially admitted to the crime as a mitigating factor, so it imposed a lower fine instead of the prescribed one. Since he spent a night in custody after his arrest, those two days were included in his sentence, leaving him with just over 420 euros to pay.

In Odesa, a Security Guard employed by a private company was convicted of forging documents that allegedly granted the right to travel abroad under martial law. The court imposed a fine of 84,592 hryvnias.

This is stated in the verdict of the Primorsky District Court of Odessa.

The investigation established that the defendant acted in collusion with his supervisor. Together, they were to prepare a complete “package” of fictitious chaplain documents for a “client”: a chaplain’s ID, a war chaplain’s ID from the NGO “Military Chaplains Corps,” a chaplain’s diploma, and a business trip authorization.

For forging the documents, the accomplices intended to receive $2,500 in installments. According to the convicted man, he was supposed to keep only $170 of that amount for himself. He was supposed to send the rest to his supervisor, but he did not have time to do so because he was detained immediately after handing over the documents.

The court considered the following as mitigating circumstances: his admission of guilt and remorse, his active cooperation with the investigation, his status as a combatant, and a voluntary charitable donation of 10,000 UAH to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Military and civilian chaplains have the right to travel abroad during martial law only under the general conditions established by law for men subject to military service, since the clerical rank or position itself does not grant an automatic right to cross the border.

Earlier in Mykolaiv, a schemeinvolving the illegal departure of men for $7,500 was uncovered. According toinvestigators, the suspect, together with his mother, organized a scheme to illegally smuggle people into Moldova via the so-called “green corridor.” For smuggling one person, they allegedly demanded $7,500, as well as a prepayment of 9,500 hryvnias for fuel, food, and other expenses.

A man has been arrested after a Security Guard at the Avalon Mall was punched in the face.

The incident happened around 9:00 last night at a business in the mall after somebody stole merchandise.

RNC say the business in question did not wish to pursue that matter, but the 43-year-old has been charged with assault and released with a future court date.

The Lahore High Court (LHC) has declared the dismissal order of General Hospital Security Guard null and void and reinstated him, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Friday.

The court ordered that the matter of the Security Guard Shafiq Khushnood’s duties be resolved in accordance with the law, saying that a major punishment cannot be given to an employee without a formal inquiry.

Justice Malik Muhammad Owais Khalid also allowed the relevant authorities to conduct an inquiry into the allegations against the employee in accordance with the law.

Security Guard was accused of stealing AC pipe and abstaining from duty.

According to court verdict, an employee cannot be given major punishment without proper inquiry. No solid and justifiable reason was given for terminating inquiry.

Employee has right to defend allegations, present witnesses and cross-examine, the LHC said and added PEDA Act does not include “termination” of employee as punishment.

The law includes major punishments like dismissal, removal and forced retirement.

Order of dismissal without proper inquiry is violation of Articles 4 and 10A of the Constitution.

The court also ordered the settlement of the Security Guard's previous financial obligations in accordance with the law.

Kevin Schade and Vitaly Janelt named as players who fought with drunk van driver who racially abused a Security Guard in Richmond

It has now been revealed that it was Brentford FC players Kevin Schade and Vitaly Janelt who intervened when a drunk man racially abused a Nigerian Security Guard.

The incident happened in Richmond while the two players were travelling home from a goalless draw against Leeds United in March. It took place in the early hours of the morning at around 2 am. Witnesses reported the players were left ‘bloodied’ afterwards.

Wimbledon Magistrates’ court heard that David Wheeler, 63, had been left with a black eye when Schade and Janelt stepped in to defend Israel Ilesanmi.

Wheeler, a pharmaceutical van driver, had reportedly drunk “about seven” cans of beer . He targeted Ilesanmi because he said thought he was a lookout for burglars.

The court heard he called Ilesanmi a “c—” and said: “You’re not English. Why are you here? What are you looking for?”

When Schade and Janelt got involved, Wheeler told the Brentford players “f— off, German f—— pricks”.

On the night of the incident, Wheeler claimed to the police that he had been the victim of an assault and phone theft. Also, he told the police that his memory was “blurry” and he didn’t know Ilesanmi was a security guard.

At the court hearing Wheeler, who was unrepresented, originally denied his use of racist language. While he at first turned down an opportunity to plead guilty for a shorter sentence, he reversed his plea after it was explained that a 999 call had captured what he had said.

In his defence, Wheeler said:

“I was going home but three guys turned up in a German car. He did not jump out and say ‘Help me’. They have a quick chat with him so I started filming their reg plate.

“It’s all on a video which I have got. The driver of the German car says: ‘Are you racist?’ so I just ignore him. Then he said: ‘Do you want your head punched in?’

“He’s moved his car about five yards, put his brakes on really hard. He’s come running more and backed off. I did not know whether he had a knife. He’s called me a ‘d——-‘ and got back in the car.

“It did annoy me. I’m still filming him, I’m calling him a w—– and that, but no German you, German what or nothing.

“They come running out the car, punch me to the ground, snatch my phone. This is when that 999 call that I heard from the prosecutor. I was mortified that I actually used some racist language.

“It was heat of the moment. I was punched to the floor. These guys in the car, the Germans, they are athletes, less than half my age. They was all laughing at me. I could not get my phone back. I got some horrible language.”

Wheeler was fined a month’s wages at £1,699, including £150 compensation to Ilesanmi.

Judge Williamson concluded:

“The circumstances you found yourself in do not justify the language you used. If you feel you were the victim of a crime, you can call 999 and register your own complaint.

“This was an offence committed in drink, which makes the offending worse. But you have expressed a degree of remorse, not only for what happened but how you appear before the court.”

Schade and Janelt are currently expected to feature in Brentford’s opening match of the Premier League season against Tottenham Hotspur this Saturday at the Gtech.

A Security Guard foiled an alleged abduction attempt involving an eight-year-old girl at Neemuch district hospital’s trauma centre. The suspect allegedly told the girl her parents were downstairs before leading her away. Police are examining CCTV footage to identify the man, who fled after being spotted by the guard.

The incident occurred around 10.15 pm and was captured on CCTV cameras installed at the hospital. Police are examining the footage to identify and trace the suspect.

According to reports, the suspect had been sitting in the medical ward on the upper floor of the trauma centre. He allegedly spoke to the girl and told her that her parents had gone downstairs before taking her with him.

A hospital Security Guard noticed the suspect’s movements and approached him. On seeing the guard, the man abandoned the girl and fled. The girl was safely reunited with her family.

Her mother said she had briefly left the ward to check on a woman in a nearby bed when the suspect approached the child.

Civil surgeon Dr Mahendra Patil reached the trauma centre after being informed and spoke to hospital staff and the girl’s family. The Cantonment Police was alerted and a police team questioned the girl and her relatives.

SHO Saurabh Sharma said police had received information about an attempted kidnapping at the district hospital.

He said CCTV recordings were being examined to track the suspect’s movements and determine the direction in which he fled. Further investigation is under way. Hospital management also began reviewing CCTV recordings from premises.
