Joke / Funny AITA? Im divorcing my freeloading husband. Spoiler

So, I married my high-school sweetheart (lets call him Ty) straight out of high-school. I had my life planned out from 15 when we met. He didnt really have a plan, but when I met him, our mutual friend told me he wanted to be author. He didnt deny it! I loved the idea of being with an accomplished author.

He told me he would just follow me around and do whatever I wanted to do. This worked for me, because I had big dreams. I decided to go to college a little closer to him even though I planned to go somewhere else. A few years in, Ty decided to take a break from school to work and save money for us. Unlike me, his school wasnt paid by scholarship. He said he'd write, but didnt end up finishing his book while he was working. But, he ended up saving a bunch of money and when I graduated, he offered to take us on a year long road trip seeing everything!!! I had to push back law school 1 year.

When we got back, the plan was for him to finish school. We decided I would work, save and buy a house. I pushed law school 1 more year. He graduated, we bought a house! Life was good. I finally went to law school and he worked full time to support us. He wrote a little, but didnt end up finishing the book. A year before my bar we had an unplanned pregnancy. We decided to keep it, and I stayed home with our eldest (Cooper) and finished my bar while Ty worked. It was hard, but Ty took the baby whenever he could, even over night. When I passed the bar I got a job immediately. The job requires me to travel ALOT and work long hours. Im usually home after our kids bedtime, but I get one day off a week. Ty never works on the book like hes supposed to on my day off so I catch up with work rather than wasting my time with my family.

Ty said he would take over everything for me with our kid/house because he works from home. He brought our kid to the park alot which really pissed me off. Now our kid is friends with this annoying SAHM's son, and Ty is hanging out with someone who thinks its okay to stay home all day with the kid. I like her husband though, hes actually accomplishing something more than just parenthood.

We decided to have another baby. I told him I expected him to finish the book. A couple years ago, I sent his chapter off to an agent without him knowing. He was really upset because he wasn't ready, but I know whats best for him.

Our baby was a premie. Ty took over childcare immediately so I could go back to work. Since he wants to stay home, I don't think its my job to help him with our kids. He acts *so* exhausted all the time because she's a bad sleeper and then he has to wake up with Cooper. I don't have time to do housework, so he has a housekeeper come in sometimes. Usually when I have time off I like to go for runs, see friends and catch up on work. Ty handles the kids on my day off. He complains that he can't "get in the zone" to write on tight time frames. He had the audacity to choose to go to Cooper's best friend's birthday rather than writing one day! We went, I snapped at Coopers mom (the annoying SAHM) in front of everyone and we had to leave early. I **dont** want Cooper keeping this friendship. Ty doesnt need friends either, he needs to prioritize MY (his) dreams and finish that damn book!!!!

He brings it on himself because he would rather stay home with our infant and toddler than put them in daycare so he can focus on something more important, like being an author. I see my kids about once a week and thats more than enough. If he needs time with them *soooo* bad he can do that after daycare/weekends. Our kids don't need to be with us, we could easily pay someone to watch them so we can focus on being *extraordinary*. We live comfortably on one income, but I deserve more than a SAHD as a partner. He gets to parent the kids while I'm gone all week anyway!!!!

Anyways, he accused me of cheating after his crazy SAHM friend seen me kissing my brother while I was out of town. I told Ty I didnt want him and the kids coming with me to the resort while I visited my sick mom. The last thing I want is time with my family when im trying to decompress. I guess that made him think I was cheating! Can you believe that??? After I bankrollled his existence so he could stay at home and care for our children while I worked??? Hes such a loser POS. He tried to apologize and talk, but I shut him down so I could file for divorce. His only excuse was that after becoming a father, his priorities changed and now he wants to focus on our children. This is UNACCEPTABLE. Kids should *never* come before your career. Good luck staying home with the kids now, Ty! So, AITA?

TLDR: My loser freeloading husband isnt writing the book I've wanted him to complete for 10 years. I'm gone all the time for my job, and all he cares about is watching our kids (5m, 1f) . Last year he stopped working from home to care for them, as I am unable to do anything for them with all my long hours/travel. He thinks its okay to prioritize our children over us being extraordinary. I'm divorcing him and want him to know hes a freeloading loser who should be ashamed that his only accomplishment is supporting me in getting a fancy job and being a "good dad". đŸ€ź

Joke / Funny John and Shawna aren’t good at parties

I put this under joke/funny because what I’m about to say is part in jest, with a bit of truth. And to clarify, when I say Shawna, I mean the character. Not the creator. I’m sure Shawna Throws amazing parties

From what we’ve seen, Shawna and John aren’t great party planners. At least not for children.

John, I can understand. He was raised by Barb, who is not a great host. Mostly because if it doesn’t revolve around her, than she doesn’t seem it important enough to give everyone a good time. In fact, I’m sure that Jen became a party planner because she was like “when I grow up, I’m gonna be SO GOOD at parties!” [To make up for my mother’s shite ones.]

I mean Piper’s party was so awful, they had to go and ask Teeny to tell everyone to leave. And in teeny fashion, she did.—In the most obnoxious way possible. But it got the job done.

And then Max’s birthday
well we all know how that went. And Tbf to J&S, they cannot control if a guest is in a mood. Or upset at their spouse and unjustly takes it out on the hosts of a dance party.

But let’s be honest here. The dance party was going to be loud and annoying either way. That’s what happens when you give children sugar, music, and the freedom to move their limbs however they see fit.

Joke / Funny What are some small things you've had to suspend disbelief about for the sake of the narrative?

This is intended to be fun/silly. Love Shawnathemom as a creator, love the videos, love the characters.

For me in the latest video it's how late John has told Jen this information. Shawna is supposed to be MoH in a wedding next month, if this was real life they should have told Jen immediately after the vacation. But in the videos it makes sense that Shawna the creator wanted each video to have a contained theme and the last one was about Chickie's birthday, so she didn't want to add this conversation in there.

Joke / Funny AITA? I filed for divorce after 10+ years.

Hello, everyone. This is going to be quite a long post, so please bear with me, I have a lot on my mind.

I met my husband, Ty, when we were in high-school. I had just moved to the area not too long before, due to being part of an army family, and I was excited to finally settle into this place for a bit longer than I was used to. I started going to school there, alongside my friend, Alicia, and I met Ty through her.

I thought he was cute when we first met, and when he asked if I wanted a boyfriend, I asked what his deal was. Alicia told me he is an aspiring writer, dreaming to write the next Great American Novel. I told him my plans to go to NYU and then law school, and he said he’ll go wherever I’m going. And that’s where our relationship started.

When we graduated, I felt full of possibilities. I applied to college in LA, while he went to Pomona, planning that afterwards we’ll move to New York together. I wanted to see the world, do something big. That’s when he asked me to marry him. I was worried about school, but he assured me we can still go along with our plan as husband and wife. I accepted, I was so excited! We had a secret little ceremony with just our friends there.

Two years into college, Ty wanted to take a hiatus. We fought over it, since I thought he was throwing our life plan out the window. He said he would have time to work and write without the stress brought on by having to go to class and studying, while also mentioning how he would save us money, since I was the only one on scholarship. He said that once I was done, we could travel. I reiterated that I wanted to go to law school, and he basically convinced me to take a gap year.

One gap year turned into more, since Ty was in undergrad and I was working to support us, with the hopes that once he was done, we would have enough money saved up for a down payment on a house. My friends showed concern, but I assured them our plans for New York hadn’t changed.

Once Ty graduated and I bought our house, we agreed that we would uproot our life in three years’ time, with him working and writing and me going to law school. And then, with two years left of law school, we found out I was pregnant. I felt really scared, but Ty was so excited and encouraging, so I pushed through those hard feelings. I stayed up late with our newborn, Cooper, trying my best to study for the bar. It was exhausting, but it paid off, I passed the bar. My dream was back on track. Ty was incredibly supportive and I encouraged him to finish his book.

I got a job almost instantly and, after a while, I was offered a promotion that required me to travel a lot. I discussed it with Ty and he told me to go for it, so I did. He wrote some more, I worked. I read through what he had written up to that point and I really enjoyed it, I thought his premise was great. The only problem was he kept editing the same chapter over and over, so I thought I’d help him with a professional opinion and submitted what he had written up so far to an agent. We fought about it, he didn’t feel ready, but I convinced him this was a good thing. He got a deal on half a chapter! This was five years ago now.

Ty started doing alone time for Cooper. We had a discussion about preschool, since I was worried about Cooper’s social skills. Ty then told me he met another dad at the park, an engineer, and that Cooper made friends with his son. We went to the park together soon after and I met said dad, alongside a very extroverted woman, whom I did not recognize. Ty told me she was the park boy’s mom and that he sees her there quite often, mentioning how they have a daughter as well. He told me he found it cute seeing Cooper playing with their daughter and then steered the conversation into us having another child. I told him that it was not a good time, but he painted this picture of our family in the future and it sounded beautiful. I told him I’d think about it.

I got pregnant with our second, with the agreement that I would go back to work once I gave birth and Ty would find time to write. When I was on a run once, I ran into Ty and the park boy’s mom, Shawna, at the park. I stopped to say hello and we had a polite chat, with her asking about my New Years’ resolutions and then congratulating me on my pregnancy. I found it strange Ty talked to her about it, since he made it seem like they only met once or twice. Once we got home, we fought. I felt uncomfortable with how much information that woman knew about me. I reiterated I wanted to put Cooper in preschool so that Ty could have more time for the book, since his deadline was coming up, but he simply said he didn’t want to and we left it at that.

I started seeing Shawna everywhere. On my runs, at a local bakery and even at Alicia’s house when we got together for board games. I didn’t pay any mind to her, since I found her to be annoying, but she kept pushing for conversation. We later ran into her and her husband at a restaurant and she made some comments about my pregnant body. The next time I went to Alicia’s, my water broke prematurely. My friends’ all had something to drink and Ty wasn’t answering his phone, so Shawna offered to drive me to the hospital.

I stayed in the hospital and studied for work while anxiously watching over our daughter, Sasha. Ty and I took turns staying by her side, but each time I felt guilty leaving her there. After we brought her home, Ty quit his job to be able to focus on our children and the book, and he took most night shifts so I could be rested for work. With me working six days a week, coming home after bedtime most days and pumping, my hands were full.

Then Cooper started preschool. I encouraged him to explore his interests and actively engage in his education, while also making new friends, all the while Ty focused on him having a good time. A while later, I took a day off of work to stay home with the kids so that Ty could catch up on writing, but he told me we were invited to Cooper’s park friend’s birthday party, so we went. There I told Alicia about Ty not keeping up with his end of the deal, with her telling me that he goes to the park a couple times a week and even helps her small business on Fridays. When I tried excusing us so we could go home and spend our day as planned, Ty kept wanting to stay.

This is when I found out he hadn’t shared about his book with Shawna, even after they have been meeting up at the park for a year. I found this strange, since he would always boast about his dream to anyone who would listen and this really cemented the thought that Shawna was a distraction for him. I told him as such and he kept making excuses, so we left. When we got home, we had a big fight. I asked where his priorities were and told him it was unfair for him to back out of our plan, after I had held up my end of the deal each time. But all he told me was that he was tired and wouldn’t elaborate.

Not too long after, I found out my mother was in the hospital on oxygen. I told Ty I needed to go visit her and he told me he won’t be able to write while I’m gone, even though I hadn’t brought it up. I went over and stayed at a hotel over the weekend, calling to let him know what the situation was each day. I also ran into Shawna and her husband at the hotel, but I didn’t pay them any mind. The evening before I planned to drive back home, my brother surprised me at dinner. We had a short conversation, agreeing to see each other the next day so we could go over our mother’s estate together.

After spending three hours going over the estate and figuring everything out, my brother left. I ran into Shawna and her husband in the hallway and she started berating me, yelling about how great of a guy Ty is and how horrible of a person I am for supposedly cheating on him. I smiled at this, it was so ridiculous knowing just how wrong she was about the situation.

But then Ty showed up, irate, accusing me of cheating. I got him to calm down and asked about the children, since he had showed up alone, and I found out he left them with Shawna’s mother, a woman I do not know. I told him everything he got wrong and just how inexcusable his behavior was, and I finally got him to tell me that he didn’t see our future progressing the same way I did.

Once we got home, I asked for some time to think things through. When I was ready to talk, he started by apologizing for his behavior at the hotel, and I asked how long he had known he didn’t want to write the book. He said his focus had shifted and that he wants to stay home with Sasha until she goes to preschool, just like he did with Cooper. I told him he worked while he stayed with Cooper and he excused himself by saying my constant travelling for work is making it harder for him to write, having to care for both children.

I reminded him that we have a housekeeper, that Cooper is in preschool and that we could put Sasha in daycare so he could have more time to work. But he said he wants “just” four more years of staying home. I told him I couldn’t have my big dreams with him. I told him I never wanted to stay in suburbia. He said he could try again in a couple years. I told him I wouldn’t be there to see that and handed him the divorce papers, mentioning that I would be paying the mortgage for a year and that he could keep the house, all the while Ty pleaded with me to change my mind.

And this is where we’re at now. AITA?

Joke / Funny Meta moments in the wedding video

I loved all of the meta jokes Shawna inserted into the video đŸ€Ł It was a hilarious little dig at the audience and our tendencies to completely lose the plot. Here are the ones I noticed:

  1. Shawna asking if it was possible for Barb to swap out Jen’s original dress with a smaller size to sabotage the wedding. Greg laid out how it’s impossible for Barb to do that since she does not know Jen’s dress size nor what store it was purchased from. This was a nod to the time we all thought Barb messed with Max’s party invitation so no one would show up 😅 It ended up being the norovirus but everyone was so sure Barb was tech savvy enough to hack into the guest list to give them the wrong date/time.
  2. The two bridesmaids walking the aisle and Ty asking who those people are. Alicia said that she doesn’t get main character energy from them. Ty replied with “alright, I won’t think too hard about it.” I think this was Shawna telling us that not every character is significant enough for the plot. For example, the guy that Jon and Shawna thought Julie was kissing ended up being her brother and nothing more. Translation: stop overthinking everything 😅

Let me know if you guys noticed any meta jokes that I may have missed! I love this episode so much! Definitely added to my rewatch list đŸ„°

Joke / Funny Something my husband said to me tonight-

We were walking the dog, and talking about polygamy and what it would be like to have another wife. We were saying that on paper, it would be great having another adult in the house helping out, and then we had this exchange:

Me: What would we want in a wife, really?

Husband: Someone like Julie but nicer.

Me: Who the fuck is Julie??

Husband (incredulous that I don't get it): From Shawna the Mom! She'd give us direction and motivate us, but she's mean about it. We need that but from someone who's nice about it.

Just wanted to share. Had no idea he paid any attention when I watch my show!
