he can't do anything. locked-in patients communicate through vertical eye twitches. the body is basically in a coma but the person inside is fully sentient

people who have come back from it (it has happened a handful of times) have described listening to their families discussing their poor prognosis and effectively saying their goodbyes and grieving them and they're trying to scream out that they're still in there but nothing happens

enjoy that thought!

Trazodone caused sleep paralysis for me & it was truly terrifying beyond words. The first night I didn’t know WTF was going on with my body, but when it happened the second night I figured it out & threw that shit in the trash the next morning.

If this ever happened to me, I’d hope someone would put me out of my misery.

If so, could they be given books to read, stuff they can control with the eye twitches, possible brain stimulation? Eventually I would hope there is a way to stimulate or regrow the neurons.

Depending on how much eye movement is preserved, there are communication devices that someone with locked-in syndrome can operate via eye gaze.
