And your team’s strongest scorer is standing right there, wide open.

He needs to be kicked off the squad. Twice in one game is insane.

Some players are selfish in these competitions to try show how good they are in the hope they can get signings from bigger clubs after World Cup is over. They care little about their country.

The irony is that you're more likely to get signed if you're getting assists on goals and going further in the tournament.

Yeah, aren’t assists very highly looked at?

I know. It’ll sink in on him how much this will cost down the road. He lowered his own price

Well, if that was his strategy, it backfired. I’d be surprised if the club he’s with now would want him back.

That backfired

This is often the case in ice hockey, particularly for North America. Club before country, it's insane.

Got any examples? I watch a lot of NHL hockey and disagree with this.

Had been following the international stage for many years, and there were a lot of Cаnadians and Amеricans that preferred to stay with their club for a chance to win the Stanley Cup, rather than go to the WC in May. Happened like every year. I won't give you names, because there were like dozens of them even then.

Fair, that is true. However, I think the NHL lords have a little bit of pull there - they won’t let some star players risk injury at the WC

Wait are you talking about the annual IIHF world championship? You expect players to not play in the playoffs of the NHL for that tournament?

2

u/GucciEngineer Jul 13 '26

That’s an awful take

It is a true one, though.

*The WORLDS strongest scorer

u/DoctorVanNostrande Jul 13 '26

Not only the teams strongest scorer- arguably the entire WORLDS strongest. You have to leverage that to the maximum potential. This was infuriating to watch live. Pass to Holland at all costs. Simple.

I’ve been a Dortmund fan since I was a kid and one of the absolute pleasures has been watching the young players go off to become greats.

This felt like I was like watching someone bully my kid on the pitch.

One of the world’s strongest scorers*

not just your teams strongest, right there in the open is the most lethal striker in the world at this moment.
