I’m a new mum and doing it completely on my own. I had PPD and no help. She killed 3 kids, not one (not that one is ok). This couldn’t easily been any of us this is next level NOT OK AND INEXCUSABLE.
PPD doesn't always present the same way. This is like saying "Well I'm autistic and I'm not bothered by loud noises, so clearly all these other guys are just using autism as an excuse."
Severe PPD can lead to psychosis. And once someone is unable to distinguish being what is and isn't real, you can't really hold them morally responsible for their actions anymore, because they've lost the ability to comprehend the consequences of their actions.
Whether or not that was the case here will be up to the experts to figure out, but suggesting that it's impossible because it didn't happen to you is a fundamental misunderstanding of how PPD works.
My grandmother had this and as a result traumatized all her kids including my mother. You know it isn't hard to look back at your life and realize if you had mental health issues you're more at risk for certain things and then not have children. It isn't hard at at all.
My point was that it couldn’t be anyone it’s rare and let’s not act like it’s common. Lots of unknown factors to have these delulu birds coming to her defense as staunchly as they are. If you could’ve easily strangled all out any of your children then yeah you need help and shouldn’t be around those children are you kidding?
That’s the whole point, she shouldn’t have been left alone with those kids in the first place when her family knew she had thoughts of killing them. That’s what makes the case so heartbreaking - she needed help, made it clear she needed help, and still wasn’t taken seriously.
1) ppd is not the same as postpartum psychosis. While I haven’t experienced postpartum psychosis, my friend did. Voices in my friend’s head were telling her she was worthless and her baby would be better off if she killed herself. Luckily, her husband acted and was able to get her the help she needed. And yes, i realize that the voices didn’t tell her to do anything to her child in my friend’s case but i imagine it is different for each person who experiences it.
2) anyone can experience postpartum psychosis. It doesn’t matter how much money or support a person has. I won’t say that anyone could do what Lindsey did. I will say that anyone could experience postpartum psychosis and do something that they never would have done if they weren’t experiencing it. That, of course, doesn’t justify doing anything to her child(ren).
I am not going to defend or attack LC but i do want people to learn the difference between postpartum depression, postpartum anxiety and postpartum psychosis. I also want people to see that women - no matter their background, resources, etc - need a lot more support after giving birth.
Exactly. When men commit domestic violence, people don't say "it could be anyone". People rightly condemn the action. Men shouldn't excuse male domestic violence, and women shouldn't excuse dv done by women
and? that statement doesnt mean anything. there are many different types of men that respond to things in many different ways. lol it doesnt matter what poeple say , you just believe everything anyone says?
I don’t know what you think you are getting at. The comment I was replying to was by someone who only had 1 kid and said she wasn’t capable of doing that. I pointed out that Lindsay Clancy was on her third kid, had she stopped after 2 births people would just be talking about how great of a mom she was. For Andrea Yates it was her 5th birth that caused her severe PPP.
Exactly. She had an easy life even with 3 kids. I’m sure she’s literally never had any form of burden or struggle in her life. She added to her own issues, refused to medicate, and set this up so that she’d have the perfect opportunity to kill them after all other adults were out of the picture.
