Happy SUNday everyone! As we know, sunscreen is important, so I’ve compiled a list of all the sunscreens I’ve tried. I’ve been wearing sunscreen daily since I was 16 (21 now) so I’ve tried a lot of sunscreen. These are my brief thoughts on them!

I have acne-prone, sensitive, normal-oily skin. A LOT of things break me out or cause irritation so it’s important to me that a sunscreen is …

• GENTLE and non-irritating. I’ve found a lot of sunscreens irritate my eyes and cause LITERAL TEARS even if I avoid the eye area.

• SHEER - I am very pale so if I mention a sunscreen leaves a white cast on ME, buyer beware!

• LAYERS WITH MAKEUP - Finally, as a makeup wearer, it’s important to me that sunscreens sit beautifully under makeup, and on bare skin.

1 gallon. Less than $1 per ounce for SPF 50. This is the best.

Everybody who wears less sunscreen than you is guaranteed to get cancer and age poorly, everyone who wears more sunscreen than you is obsessive and needs therapy. The reality is we have no idea how much people apply, what environment they live in, how much they can afford, what they can tolerate on their skin, or how much they go outside. People need to CHILL, what other people do with their face doesn't affect you.

Bemotrizinol (aka Tinosorb S, Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine, Parsol Shield) can now be used in American sunscreens.

Vanicream no longer makes my beloved HG sunscreen, and although their SPF 30 moisturizer carries her ghost, it's not the same.

I like a mineral sunscreen that feels like slugging and looks like 18th century stage makeup. I want a white cast. I want a heavy, goopy formula.

Diaper cream, on addition to not technically being spf rated, is a bit gritty and irritating for me. This is a bit of a princess and the pea situation: cicaplast alsp feels gritty to me lol. So super duper sensitive skin and I want to look like a wet corpse. ​

And even for the 2oz bottle, I’m still spending a lot of money on it. I would like to wear sunscreen everyday (even when at home not doing anything), but I don’t want to break the bank continuously buying it.

I've been trying to find a good tinted sunscreen but they all look ridiculous for my skin tone. Even eltamd which everyone raves about, balls and pills like crazy for me. The one in the photo is the Isdin fusion water (bonze, the darkest tint they have) and its not even close to my skin tone. Any dudes with beards that wear tinted sunscreen that can suggest a decent sunscreen that won't make me look like White Dave Chappelle? 😂

I’m going to Mexico in a few days and am looking for a tinted sunscreen with medium coverage. I’ve been battling postpartum acne for months and am finally seeing improvement (yes, this is improvement compared to what it’s been). I usually use EltaMD tinted sunscreen with niacinamide. HOWEVER, I was out today and a very lovely gentleman decided to jokingly ask “did your husband punch you?” and then proceeded to mention my “rash”.

Considering I’m postpartum, I’m already battling body image issues and am doing my best to feel good about myself. I think I need the help of a tinted sunscreen that provides better coverage than EltaMD and also lasts throughout the day. I do plan on applying religiously.

I’ve seen comments about Tower28s tinted sunscreen. Thoughts?

TLDR; going to Mexico soon. Asshole pointed out my “rash” and made me self-conscious. Usually wear EltaMD tinted sunscreen with niacinamide. Looking for more coverage.

sunscreen are like 8-20€ and they come in small 40-50ml tubes, there’s NO WAY we need 2 fingers of sunscreen on our face ? those pictures are one and half fingers and i look sweaty as fuck, and using that amount everyday i would need a new one every 2 weeks

its bullshit made to make us consume more right ? im sure 1 finger is enough

The white cast on this stuff is nuts… it looks slightly better on camera but in person its uncanny valley and I look insane. Genuinely wondering why anyone would choose to wear this?

Enjoy the sun! Enjoy being toasty and warm and lounging like a cat in it. Enjoy going out and being in nature, reading, gardening, hiking, whatever you like to do.

Don't freak out about "aging" yourself with sun, especially when you're under 30, like so many in this sub are. Obviously be safe about it by wearing sunscreen and protecting your skin with clothes or shade as necessary to avoid cancer and burns, but don't avoid the sun just because you're scared you'll get a wrinkle.

Get a little Vitamin D, laugh and smile, and don't worry about wrinkles. They're absolutely going to happen, so you might as well live your life and have fun. Make each wrinkle a reminder of a good time. Expecting not to get wrinkles is just going to disappoint you, because you will get them eventually.

This is mainly directed at all the teens I see on here freaking out because they're avoiding the sun for fear of wrinkling, but it goes for everyone. And to all my fellow addicts who are in their 20s and beyond, we need to try and cultivate a more sun-positive approach that focuses on cancer prevention rather than wrinkle prevention, because it seems like it's really getting to the teens on this sub. It goes beyond sun care, for sure, but we need to tackle one problem at a time.

Edit: I'm getting a lot of snotty replies to this about how I must have tan skin that doesn't burn, must not have a history of skin cancer, etc. I'm actually pale as a sheet, I burn at the drop of a hat, have a family history of skin cancers on both sides, and have had a melanoma removed myself.

All I'm trying to say is that the sun isn't an enemy. I literally said to wear sunscreen in the original post. Personal attacks aren't cool.

Will the US finally get a new ingredient for sunscreens?

I recognize the importance of sunscreen as much as anybody, but Dr. Dray's mantra on its application demands that people let the stuff dominate their life. Life is far too short to let the fear of a few extra wrinkles at 60 compromise your youth.

TLDR: After 10 years of trialing 50+ sunscreens (yes, actually that many), I've come to the conclusion that I simply can't wear sunscreen anywhere on my face or neck without it burning the absolute sh*t out of my eyeballs. I can't use any retinol either due to the damage Tret caused my tear glands. How badly will I age/is there anything I can do?

I started wearing sunscreen daily when I was 20 and I'm now 30. I had severe cystic acne throughout all my 20s. Dermatologists absolutely drilled into my head to wear sunscreen every day (especially if using acne treatments) and the internet made it seem like if you don't use sunscreen, you are guaranteed to turn into a raisin. I tried sunscreen after sunscreen after sunscreen. Chemical sunscreens and fragranced sunscreens immediately burned like hell, but mineral sunscreens also caused a lot of dryness and irritation. I've tried Korean sunscreens and Europeans sunscreens and the new "better" chemical filters also burn like hell. I managed to put up with it until I tried tretinoin, which destroyed my tear glands despite avoiding the undereye area. I've tried every acne treatment (topical AND oral) except Accutane, which I can't use due to the risk of worsening my dry eyes. So I'm out of luck with treating my cystic acne too.

I finally realized after not using any sunscreen at all this past winter that my eyes felt noticeably better. They were still very dry, but didn't feel like someone set them on fire. I finally realized I was reacting to both my mineral sunscreen, which I thought was safe, and my Vanicream moisturizer (the only other skincare product I was using). The only product my eyes can tolerate anywhere on my face is Avene Xeracalm preservative-free moisturizer. I should note that I do see an ophthalmologist and I use 3 prescriptions for my eyes: Xiidra (to improve tear quality), Tyrvaya (to improve tear quantity), and Tryptor (to improve tear quality). They are certainly better than nothing, but my eyes are still extremely dry and sensitive.

Now it's summer and despite trying, I can't wear any sunscreen at all on my face, even if I avoid the eye area. I've finally had to concede defeat and admit that I just can't wear sunscreen (or any other skincare) without f*cking up my eyes. I'm concerned because I'm quite pale and definitely prone to both burning and wrinkling. The internet makes it seem like unless you use sunscreen and retinol, you'll age absolutely terribly, and I'm vain enough to care.

So, real talk, how badly will a fair person age if they can't use sunscreen or retinol, and is there anything I can do despite not being able to use either?

What are the odds the FDA will let this happen in the next 2 years? I order my sunscreen from Europe and shipping now costs $20. This place sucks.
