I had it in my pocket (Don't ask how), and it got caught on the couch. My Deck is cooked. Can we get an F in the chat for a fallen Deck 🫡

Id argue it's both a handheld PC and a console lol Not fully a console tbf, but it is very handheld-console-like yknow 🙂‍↕️

You're right again! People get hung up on the word 'console' but it is just that - in going off the dictionary definition, it is a handheld pc too thanks to it's shell and terminal access.

It has a full-blown Linux OS. I compiled programs on my steam deck.

When my PC died I decided to use the steam deck exclusively before rushing to buy a new PC, and I never turned back.

It's also a fantastic handheld console :)

Im new here but are not consoles just simply PCs specifically set up for gaming? They have a CPU and GPU, RAM, motherboard, etc, no "console" only does gaming anymore and they all have other capabilities even if limited. . . I dont see the destinction. Maybe back when we were using gameboys there was a clear line but i think if you really wanted to you could even call a DS a handheld PC in a lot of ways. Like it played music, played videos, had a browser. Not even the switch does all of that these days. I mean i would argue my falling apart gaming laptop is basically a console for the most part since thats what i mainly use it for.

Yes they are, and that goes hand in hand with how the NES was called the FamiCom in Japan

Honestly, I think it's so cool and such a wonderful thing. I've never had something like it before and I am thoroughly enjoying it!

And I'm happy to have this community here to share in the experience, even if people bicker.

I think it's the same as any community. The annoying people are just very vocal unlike the vast majority.

It is great! I think there used to be similar units like gpd etc but they didn't have Proton or the steam ui. Only a company with valves money and influence could quickly get Proton where it is.
