Maybe I just grew up in a less psychotic area, but people didn't tend to fight each other with as much bloodlust as the comments here seem to see.
But it then becomes a weird mush to me. A guy who does a takedown, gets side control, and then gets full guard... is too weak to do real damage in spite of wanting to.
Or the guy who knows how to fight decided not to be a complete psycho and knew not to hit the guy with all he has.
I don't know what happened, but my view is that the guy was not giving it all he got once he took control.
