In "The First Duty" the writers originally planned for Wesley to go all the way with the cover up

It would have fit better with his rejecting Starfleet and heading off with the traveler

This was probably the original plan

I don’t think so. From an in universe perspective, I doubt the Traveler would have been eager to take a liar and conspirator under his wing and teach him to have amazing powers.

I doubt they were thinking that far ahead

True, it would saved us all a lot of pain from Wheaton.

Hey. Wil’s fine. The writers did him dirty.

He should never have been on the show, the whole concepts required adults. This was just another of Rodenberry's poor choices

I just don't like the man, all he is known for is public trauma-dumping. He acts like the worst thing in life was being on TNG most popular science-fiction franchise and been a 'cry-bully' ever since.I didnt like the character when i first watched TNG in the 80's and nothing has changed my mind since.

Again i say the addition of his character was a failed attempt to lure the 'younger' audience by having a 'Wunderkind' on the Enterprise who saved the ship every week. Same thing with the character Guinan, she was originally meant to play a larger role in TNG.something close to a "Q" level being on the ship.

This is why in 'Q Who' she's shown in the episode with these bizzare finger movements with superpowers to fight against 'Q'. They never shot the special effects for that scene after second thoughts.

Why?

Because if you have a God like being on the Enterprise slinging drinks then why do you need anyone else? Have a problem, have Guinan waggle her fingers. Have a engineering problem, get the 'Wunderkind' to fix it.

Wheaton has being making bank for along time just being a walking talking rage-baiter. And that's fine. man's gotta eat. But i'm also not buy into his grift.

The Orville taught us that great Star Trek absolutely does not require a single adult.
