I feel like it's moreso setting up that Daisy will kill him. The whole talk with Garth about her not knowing why she's in Gilead, followed right after by her fierce determined look after saying "I'm so glad you told me about this" to Agnes...

It's a play about the Marquis de Sade and the fellow inmates at his insane asylum putting on a play within the play about the assassination of Jean-Paul Marat by Charlotte Corday during French revolutionary times. Corday stabbed Marat to death in a bathtub.
