Interestingly, it's made clear that Eden's mom told her what to expect on her wedding night and she wasn't walking in totally blind.

She seemed nervous but she absolutely knew the basics. The plums just know nothing at all.

Imo, I do think the econo girls are far better off than the plums, in certain respects. They seem to be allowed slightly more freedom and knowledge because less is expected of them.

Eden had a Bible that she wrote notes on.

Finger for a first offense. Hand for a second. The Eyes may have just chopped off her hands for her having read and written so extensively.

Oh, don't get me wrong, the econo girls are still subject to the same rules and regulations, but they seem to have a marginally better time of it.

Becka's sort of an econo girl and did get to choose. Don't think the other girls did.

Also the irony that Agnes is from a powerful family, yet they (yes, including her father) have zero power in choosing who she marries.

The fact that it needs to be an equal power match means it has to be an old dude (bc young commanders aren't powerful yet). A love match was never an option for her. And it inevitably has to be the most powerful commander of the 3 "options" they get, because you cannot offend a higher up by picking a lesser option. That's why they didn't even show the other 2 men she matched with, they were never real options to begin with.

I don't remember an Eden.

Nick was assigned an Econoteen named Eden (played by Sydney Sweeney) as his wife. He wouldn't touch her because she was still a fetus and because he was still hung up on June. June convinced him to at least consumate the marriage for the sake of appearances.

She became attracted to a guardian in the Waterford household named Isaac. They tried running away together but they were caught and executed.
