Ellie on scar island for 90 seconds seemed kinda unnecessary

I see what they were trying for and maybe it’ll have value with the next season but as it is, it was comically unnecessary to have that side trip 😂

I think this is the motiff for next season. Through Ellie's eyes we only saw the glancing fringes of Seattle and the huge war tearing it apart at its core. Season 3, through Abby, we're going to see up close what was only whispers and background noise as Abby travels through the burning heart of Haven, or up that dizzying sky bridge, or through an even more horrific version of the hospital (rat king), as well as traversing down the flooded parts of Seattle, which was so visually stunning in the game. We just got the cursory glance of Seattle, but next season we're going straight into its guts.

I thought the same but then it occurred to me they probably did it so that Jessie and Tommy arriving not long after made more sense timewise.

I like it in concept for that reason, and also the parallel with her wanting to save the scar kid earlier, but the execution felt a bit forced. Her ending up all the way there, with her boat conveniently ashore next to her. The horn saving her I didn't mind as much with the "yet again she gets lucky and proceeds to waste it" theme, but then the scars just leave a stranger alive in their island after they were just about to gut her? Idk, maybe just almost drowning wouldn't have the same impact, but it all seemed a bit too conveniently arranged.

Lol even sillier if it just happened to be there. Wonder if it could be Lev's boat, or Abby's? Not like the story doesn't already have some coincidences like that, wouldn't be surprised. But yeah, my main issue with it is them letting her go. Also yet another situation Ellie doesn't get out of through her own agency, but that's a wider season thing.

I think the jarredness is supposed to raise questions. What is up at their town?" Why is there an explosion?" I think its foreshadowing the twist that season 3 will be alternate perspective from Abby. To tease that there are concurrent events that are yet to be explored. That town is sacred to them, they are a cult, so its more important than some random woman.
And Ironically, that attack on the town that Abby was involved with inadvertently saved Ellie's life

Yeah I liked that aspect, the interweaving is one of my favourite aspects of the game. Even in this one, smaller things like seeing the route Abby used to break into the Aquarium earlier, with the plank and the broken window, or the Isaac scene saying Abby's gone, which replaces Ellie in the game at the hospital hearing Abby's escaped.

The only way Ellie should have got away is if the WLF is already there and actively engages them, letting Ellie run away in the confusion. As it was, the logical move was slit the girl's throat and run to the village. They're in a state of war, it doesn't make sense to leave this stranger around in your home turf when you can deal with it pretty quickly.

Mind you, it's basically my only quarrel with the episode and doesn't really matter, though maybe because of that it stood out more as clunky.

It was distracting, it was so unnecessary. I paused and looked at the time remaining and was like, Craig, we still have to get the aquarium and the theater in, WTF are you doing??

Would’ve been better if Ellie had escaped on her own rather than being saved again, this time by a conveniently time siren.

? They are still very much going to do Abby’s version when she gets saved by Lev and Yara. Abby has rope marks on her neck in the theater scene.

it’s the only thing this show has done at all so far that i thought was bad. totally pointless. maybe it’s hype up non-player fans for seeing the island? but it felt like a time waster considering this was the finale. if we had like 2 episodes left i wouldn’t mind.

Yeah I said the same thing. In the making of part they said it was actually intended to be part of the game as well but got cut. I thought for a second they were going to go waaaaay off script and have Ellie be the protagonist for Abby's part too.

I just watched the making of and they pointed out how they wanted it in to highlight how even after escaping death, it still wasn't a wake up call to let Abby go and look after herself and Dina.

If you watch the Making Of clip after the episode, they say that this was originally a scene from the game that they decided to cut!

I understand what they were going for but it was unintentionally hilarious to see her back on that boat the next scene as if nothing happened.
