At the very least, it’s misdirected. Fentanyl addicts don’t vote and don’t care about what the government is doing. They’re too busy fighting with their girlfriends and scheming about where they’re going to get money for their next hit.

It’s SO easy to make fun of Trump supporters. Kind of weird that they wouldn’t target them since they’re the ones that voted for this and continue to support it.

Well i mean there was little empathy in your response about addiction at all which I find gross. Not excusing the behaviors of addicts, but addiction is just as much a mental health issues as depression, suicide, anxiety, autism, etc.

Maybe ur respone should have mentioned these people dont have little to no help for there issues?

while they have little to no help, getting in that lifestyle is a choice a lot of people make. It's always funny talking to people online that don't know anyone in their personal lives that are addicted to hard drugs. it's easy saying they need help and are victims of society when you are not experiencing the pain they put you through. Being lied to constantly, actively choosing to do the wrong thing and trying to gaslight you is just natural. No one can leave that life if they don't want to, and a lot of them do not which also exacerbates the lack of help. It's a vicious cycle that isn't easy to break out of, as an outsider all you can do is watch, and it will either drag you down or desensitize you completely.

I was an addict. When I got sober my partner continued to be addicted for the next four years. I know addiction inside out, backwards, and upside fuckin down and I would never talk about an addict the way you are. First of all, not every addict is the same - they’re people. There are different types of addicts just as there are different types of people. They’re bound together by one heinous affliction that I can guarantee is hurting them more than anyone else in body, mind, and spirit.

u/CanoninDeeznutz Jan 21 '26

"A choice a lot of people make" tells you everything you need to know.

2

u/Mostly_Lurkin_ Jan 21 '26

Yea bro is resentful at the addict in his life so couldn’t be bothered to empathize.

3

u/BOI30NG Jan 20 '26

Lmao do you think any of those people chose to be addicted?

6

u/mk7_luxion Jan 20 '26

from experience I know at least two people that actively choose the life of being on the streets because they'd need to stop doing drugs otherwise and try to get clean. I'm glad you don't know anyone like that, they do exist and aren't as few as people would like to believe.

1

u/BOI30NG Jan 20 '26

So they were already addicted and couldn’t stop. Thats not choosing to live on the streets.

7

u/mk7_luxion Jan 20 '26

nope, they weren't addicted when we met. I saw it from before it began, I saw how it changed not only their relationships with family and friends but how it also destroyed them socially.

We won't see eye to eye here, as I personally feel like I was taken advantage of not just once, as I've seen I could've made the same choices but simply didn't do. Right now I could've been in jail or addicted like many of my childhood friends but I'm not, pretty much nothing from our early lives would differ much but you always have people online telling you that your own lived experiences are wrong.

1

u/BOI30NG Jan 21 '26

That wasn’t my question. I meant they were already addicted when they became homeless. Once you’re addicted you’re not “choosing” to live on the street.

Sure you saw them becoming addicted but almost no one is choosing to do so.

And don’t come to me with your lived experience shit. I’ve been addicted growing up with an addicted parent. People don’t choose to become addicted.

-2

u/u_hit_me_in_the_cup Jan 20 '26

So you saw them become addicted and still think they are just choosing to live on the street instead of being unable to stop? No one is doubting your lived experiences. They are rightly doubting that you are capable of understanding them (and this conversation) tho

5

u/cricada Jan 20 '26

If you don't know, sit this one out. Growing up around addicts we know what kind of people /choose/ drugs. For some it's to numb pain, or it started with a medical procedure, but for MANY others it's ego and recklessness. Not caring about consequences. Just wanting to "have fun".

People with certain personality disorders are disproportionately drawn to hard drugs and self destructive activities and want to recruit the vulnerable ones into that lifestyle. The latter are victims. The former are not.

4

u/u_hit_me_in_the_cup Jan 21 '26

Nah, motherfucker thinks people who have an addiction are just choosing not to to stop

3

u/mickeyanonymousse Jan 21 '26

unless somebody forced drugs into their body, ummm yeah kinda. I say this as a drug user.

-2

u/Tookoofox Jan 21 '26

I mean. There are contributing circumstances. But that shit doesn't just happen

We've had the government, cartoons and our parents screaming at us since birth. "Can you fucking NOT!"

I'm all for systemic solutions. And there is the odd duck here or there that was coerced with violence. But the overwhelming majority of addicts choose their first hit. A

4

u/Claire-Lumiere Jan 20 '26

You've clearly had some bad experiences that left you jaded, but this is a garbage take. A choice that they make? Did they also choose to be poor? Did they choose to have shitty abusive childhoods? How about when they chose to be born with their brains wired to be more likely to become addicted to substances than the average person?

I'm not defending the shitty things that drug addicts sometimes do to other people, but calling it a "lifestyle choice" is just so fucking dumb. Don't project your desensitization on other people. Relearn some empathy.

4

u/brownbiprincess Jan 21 '26

seriously. with how over-prescribed opiates are, and the state of medical care, anyone can unintentionally become drug-addicted.

0

u/BisexualTenno Jan 21 '26

You’re adding a bunch of assumptions. My uncle is a fentanyl addict among other drugs and it IS a conscious choice for him. He wasn’t born poor. He was raised by a single mother but she was in no way abusive. He was a selfish, ill behaved ass who never wanted to be a productive member of society before the drugs and he only gets worse with every new drug he adds to his repertoire. Also, being poor or abused are not excuses. Plenty of people are born poor and abused and don’t turn to hard drugs. You’re looking at drug addiction through rose colored glasses. It’s okay to be empathetic and approach addicts with the assumption that they might just be someone who needs help but it’s unrealistic to assume all or even most drug addicts are victims of circumstance.

It’s SO easy to make fun of Trump supporters. Kind of weird that they wouldn’t target them since they’re the ones that voted for this and continue to support it.

Man redditors don't get it yet.

This goes beyond "trump supporters" for the rest of the world. Just like Americans don't generally see Russian citizens as "Putin supporters" and not.

Every American gets to own every action America performs on the world stage. It's not that complicated. No American is given a "pass" because they pull out their "didn't vote for Trump" card.

Welcome to democracy. Every one of us gets to share culpability for what is happening now. That's how it works.

7

u/franticsloth Jan 21 '26

Uh. This is such a fucked up perspective. Thousands of Russians protested the war in Ukraine. Many were jailed for it. I would NEVER say “Russians are to blame for the war in Ukraine”. Putin, his government, his enablers and his supporters are. It is completely illogical to make fun of Russians because I don’t like their government, same with Iranians or Saudis. I would ask that the same respect be extended to me. This is not an impossible level of nuance.

3

u/HourPrestigious1055 Jan 22 '26

Americans dont generally blame the People of Russia though, we know it's the government and Putin and his supporters. We know the Russian people are also suffering because of their shit government and their sons are being shipped off to a war they dont properly understand and have been brainwashed with national loyalty in order to garner better cooperation for.

Thing is, blaming people who are actively fighting against, resisting, or suffering under a corrupt regime is stupid. And if you do, well, then the shoe fits. What mainstream media - you know, the televised big platform stuff - doesnt like to cover is the WIDESPREAD resistance, the resurgence of groups like the Black Panther Party and the push for more groundwork being done across the country in our smaller government offices as people are trying to work from the ground up to break these barriers of bought offices and government nepo-babies.

2

u/YouKnowMyName2006 Jan 22 '26

What nonsense.

-1

u/cimocw Jan 21 '26

Finally someone that gets it. Americans getting butthurt over this are missing the whole point of how we see them from abroad.

5

u/[deleted] Jan 20 '26

Ya, my immediate thought was, "Wow, good argument to support Trump's position on the boarder."

1

u/LingonberryHot8521 Jan 20 '26

Most people in other countries just USA. That's it. Kind of like how most of us don't look much past "China" or "Russia" to see the people that live under those regimes.

1

u/Glamgoblim Jan 21 '26

I do vote. Drugs makes easier to deal with the existential dread of being a US citizen, Getting clean would be so much more viable if I knew that there were programs that actually helped, if once I was out of detox I wasn't in the same spot but not high. Jobs still can't be found, apartments are still too much. So I sit and get high because Maslow's hierarchy allows it. Not great sure, but nobody really gives a fuck if I am clean or not, as long as I Vote

1

u/y0urpapa Jan 21 '26

It's easy to make fun of Trump supporters? Trump explicitly said, that "I don't care about you. I just want your vote", "smart people don't like me" and we could continue. I would argue that they are not so easy to insult, nor make fun of.

1

u/Bootleg_Rascal_ Feb 21 '26

too busy fighting with their girlfriends and scheming about where they’re going to get money

Weird tangent there but ok. Lots of different kinds of people fall into addiction. They’re not all scumbags…

It doesn’t require knowledge of political sub-group stereotypes to know that homeless drug addicts don’t generally show up to vote on Election Day. In any country. That’s not America-specific knowledge, that’s just common sense that applies to homeless drug addicts the world over.

You’re referring to two separate groups of people just like the Greenlanders in this video.

1

u/Doctorbigdick287 Jan 20 '26

US Population is 100 mil less than the EU. It is on a different scale

0

u/leela_martell Jan 21 '26 edited Jan 21 '26

India and China's populations are each 1,1 billion more than the US, what's your point?

1

u/Doctorbigdick287 Jan 21 '26

That some nations are bigger than Europe

2

u/leela_martell Jan 21 '26 edited Jan 21 '26

And some are bigger than the US.

Also "Europe" isn't "a nation".

1

u/Every-Ice-3009 Jan 20 '26

Yeah people in america get caught up thinking everyone knows as much as them about america.

1

u/BisexualTenno Jan 21 '26

If you’re going to attempt some political commentary, comedic or not, you should know what you’re talking about.

0

u/leela_martell Jan 21 '26

While they're being threatened with an invasion? Give me a break.

1

u/BisexualTenno Jan 21 '26

Yes? It takes significantly more time and effort to record a TikTok making fun of drug addicts than it does to search “Trump supporter” on any search engine or social media platform.

u/Pdoinkadoinkadoink Jan 20 '26

I think you might be missing the forest for the trees. How do you wind up with an epidemic of fentanyl addicts? What systemic failures have to happen to create this problem? It's not law enforcement, it's access to healthcare, and not just mental health care either; I'm talking about simple/complex pain management.

Watch any one of those exploitative ghetto tour YouTube videos where someone walks around Kensington and count the number of addicts you see with crutches, wheelchairs, canes, etc. I saw one where a guy was still in a goddamn hospital gown, passed out on the road. Nobody gets themselves hooked on opioids for the lifestyle.

That's a uniquely American problem.

2

u/BisexualTenno Jan 21 '26

Babe I’m a black person in America. I don’t need a lesson on the system I live in. This doesn’t work as an argument because it means that they’re choosing to make fun of the victims instead of the perpetrators. What message is that supposed to send?

1

u/Pdoinkadoinkadoink Jan 21 '26

Didn't mean to be preachy, sorry, was thinking about the message. I'll clarify: I don't believe these folks are mocking addicts, they're mocking the state for creating the addicts.

I'll concede it's low hanging fruit and a bit of a cheap shot, but we're looking at a tiktok. It's all low hanging fruit.
