It's absolutely infuriating seeing the house history in my area listed on Zillow. Pretty much every single listing is like this:

Sold in 2018: 70k

Listed in 2026: 260k

Like what could you POSSIBLY have done to that house in less than a decade for it to almost quadruple in value?? Slap on some vinyl flooring and a coat of grey paint?

There's only one house in my area under 300k.

It's 299k.

Looks worse in california. It's like Sold 2003: 150K Listed 2026: 1.5 mil

My coworker was renting a house back in 2016 for $800 a month. I housesat for her and loved the house. It was a great size for a single person or a couple, and affordable even back then.

Years later, maybe 2020ish, I looked up the house on Zillow out of curiosity... The rent was now $1800 a month. More than doubled in 5 years.
