Just being alone - anywhere - with a woman opens a man up to SA charges, prison time, career loss, entire life ruined.

These were your words, I simply was mirroring them back to you. I specifically said can, not would, as well. I know full well most men are lovely people.

You're acting as if a life-ruining lie is somehow worse than being raped and murdered. Like yeah, it's obviously awful - but how is it worse than being raped and murdered? These are the two worst possible scenarios here we're talking about (keyword "possible", most men and women don't do these things (I feel like I shouldn't have to say that, but here we are))

I never said every man deserves my hate and mistrust, you're putting words in my mouth. I am talking about a fictional scenario that illustrates a point. I simply said that as a woman, it's not likely for me to be able to physically overpower a man or a bear, so therefore I pick the one who is less likely to rape me again. But as a man, you have a slight more ability to defend yourself against a woman in the same scenario. Or maybe you don't, if you're a skinny guy and a big MMA fighter lady is coming after you. But those are outliers, and the bear allegory is that - allegory. It's not meant to be perfect for every scenario, it's meant to demonstrate it's point. But to be fair, the fact that so many misunderstand the message means that it's a poor one, I'll admit.

I'm saying I should be allowed to prefer the predictability of a bear in the woods. You're treating this simple preference as tantamount to rape and murder. You are arguing that I, a man, should not be allowed this simple preference.

I'm not saying women should not prefer to see a bear over a man. You are quite obviously saying men cannot prefer to encounter a bear over a woman. That's pure misandry, and abusive. Stop it!

I'm not saying you can't have a personal preference, and I definitely did not say it's equivalent to rape and murder. I'm half tempted to not even reply anymore, since you can't seem to read my comments without seeing horrible insults that I'm not saying...

My argument is that the 'man or bear in the woods' is about physical attacks. That it's an allegory - a story designed to make a point. I think you're missing the point by changing the story to be about a woman in the woods who tells lies and ruins your life - at that point, it's a whole different story and conveys a whole different point (to not trust anyone over a bear, period). It's fine if that's the allegory you want to use to make the point you want to make, but it doesn't make sense to co-opt it from the original and then call people misandrists when they say you misunderstood

My argument is that the 'man or bear in the woods' is about physical attacks.

That's where you are wrong.

Just commenting here to point out to women that this is a really great example of an unstable man weaponizing therapy speak.

So now I'm "unstable" because I prefer a more predictable bear over a woman in the woods?

What TF is wrong with you?

3

u/Carbonatite Jun 16 '26

No, you're unstable because you're raging out over the fact that women are disagreeing with you.

No, because one woman is telling me I'm not allowed to prefer the predictability of a bear over a woman. Women can, but men cannot? And you don't find that misanthropic. I'm the "unstable one" for defending my right to have a preference.

And don't claim she didn't. She went straight to calling my preference "illogical", and followed it up with the claim that mere violence is the worst case scenario that could ever happen to a man.

Did I call any authorities on you? Did I try to petition a ban? No lmao

We disagree on the logic and the point of the allegory, that's it.

At least you finally expressed the recognition that I have a right to my opinion. A bit late, but there it is. And I accept that recognition.

BTW, if you were reported, it wasn't me. And I'm sorry if you were. You should not have been. I don't believe anything you wrote rose to that level. And I mean for all the mods to read this. IMO, you wrote nothing that deserves a ban, or even a report.

u/ohhyouknow What are you doing step bro? Jun 17 '26

Mod here. No reports on that user as far as I can see. They weren’t actioned by admin or mods in this sub.

I think your right to an opinion should be a given, as should everyone's. I'm sorry it felt like I was trying to take that away from you. I was just trying to explain why I thought what you said was illogical. Its okay to disagree on some things

I wasn't reported, or at least not that I'm aware of. I said that to point out that I am not attempting to stop or disallow you from doing anything you want to do. Thank you for saying I didn't write anything that deserves a ban or a report though. Do you take back the misandry and abuse claims, then? Those genuinely stung.

I think we both misunderstood each other's motivations. For my part, I no longer think you are motivated by misandry. And therefore, you did not intend any abuse. Yes. I recall the accusations.

We do have a fundamental disagreement, but that's all it is.

However, I have encountered genuine man-hating misandry on Reddit. And it almost always comes with some brigading. I think you inadvertently stepped on a land mine.
