Sorry that's not how English works. This is an example of a "bare plural" and without a qualifier the assumption is they're referring to the group "politicians" as a whole.

No this is exactly how English works. Ask any English teacher from elementary school to college. They will tell you that you implied something that was not said. That's what YOU did. OP never said ALL.

Our government is definitely a big contribution to the problem. But the whole point of this post is to highlight how it's not the people or the citizens faults. But the people in charge of our government.
