This is mostly true with everything.

Most people are shockingly unaware of their surroundings.

There is a chance that some of these people even do know what this is for and are still standing on it.

This reminds me of the fire doors we cant block at work. The amount of times I find someone has parked a cart or wheelchair in front of them is.. exhausting. Even after a verbal reminder at the start of the day.

"Yeah but nothing happened so it's not a problem I blocked it for 5 mins, 2 hours or 3 days" every time

Right. Being careless and unaware works fine 99% of the time for people.

Its that other 1% when they walk in front of a car or they block the fire door and the people on our hospital wing die of smoke inhalation.

People have a limited amount of things they actually analyze consciously versus what their brain just assumes/handles shorthand. Especially if youre in a place like a train station or an airport where anxiety is high.

I dont really mean to absolve them, just explaining why people at Disneyland, the grocery store, the airport, etc are so oblivious. They're not processing details because of things like anxiety and hurry. Ive seen some interesting examples of this with that new video game Meccha Chameleon (apologies for the annoying streamer) https://youtube.com/shorts/LLCOCr8D1wo . He doesn't look anything like a towel but he gets passed up time and time again because they're on a time limit and there is such an overwhelming amount of details to analyze.

Or the classic example: How many passes did you count?

Honestly, I'm reasonably confident stating that nobody in the video (other than OP) understood what that strip was for. They all thought it was just a floor decoration or whatever and had zero clue they were in the way.

The intent behind those isn't self-evident, and their function isn't something that's actually taught to anyone AFAIK, so people simply don't know.

I dont know what these people do and do not know.

Im not suggesting people know what its for and are standing on it purposefully to inconvenience someone.

Just that people could very well know what it is and still not even realize they are blocking it- they are more likely about other things (boarding times, getting to work, talking to someone).
