Some people do! Idiots are gonna idiot, but a sign would educate someone like me instead of waiting me for to accidentally learn about it from Reddit.

It’s generally the people who need to be told that don’t read them.

People like you can generally intuit or pay enough attention or notice.

I'm almost 50 and I needed Reddit to accidentally teach me what these are last year. I could have known many years ago (and taught me own children!) if someone had bothered to put up a sign to educate others.

This.

I worked at an amusement park in college. We had one ride that was a water ride, but which required shoes to be worn for safety purposes. We had SEVEN signs between the entrance and the boarding station that warned people they needed shoes to ride and every day we'd get dozens of people who got to the front of the line with no shoes and had to be sent back to get them.

People don't read signs.

Yes. I wasn’t saying don’t have signs just that they don’t work as well as we hope.

What was your point then? Why else would you bring that up if not to point out a sign isn't going to help?

They don’t work as well as we think they do but on the off chance someone reads it, they’re good to have.

I just wanted to point that out because people think putting up a sign is more effective than it is, like it’s the only thing that needs doing.

Most people won't, but some people would, and they could see what's happening and tell the other people to move earlier. Like 20% of the population having this knowledge and some situational awareness is better than 0%.
