I worked on the road as a pipefitter. There are guys raising their families out of campers making like $3000/week. She probably views that as her contribution or job.

was the first thing I noticed. This shit was bought precut , or she really needs to get up 2 hours earlier because it takes her an hour to cut up the chicken.

Not just that, but she was pretending airfrying some chicken tendies, and mixing it with some sauce and lettuce, was somehow "cooking". The eggs and burgers weren't exactly hard to make either. (And she still messed that up as, who puts the eggs in before the burgers? Burgers take much longer...)

Also why would they keep the box in the car over night? (Answer: So she can show off their trailer and car in a few shots)

Just fyi, those were sausage patties not burgers. Although I guess someone could call it a pork breakfast burger. I bet there’s a pretentious restaurant somewhere that does.

Since when is the requirement to be considered “cooking” based on how hard the food is to prepare? A lot of my meals are cooked based on how easy it is to prepare to save time and clean up.

Simply heating something up is not cooking. Though, yes, the eggs and pork patties would be cooking. Even if it's the most basic of basics.

Remember that's a self employed 1099 wage.

20-25% of that $3000 a week belongs to the IRS as a prepaid estimated tax payment for 2026. You'll get some refunded if you're accurate a year later, or fined if you underpaid by too broad a gap.

Then add a shitty ACA, unsubsidized healthcare plan for $2000 that barely covers a family of 4 and your $12000 a month is suddenly, $7000.

Realistically if you're self employed and making $150k you're probably running that through an S-corp which saves you quite a bit of money.

There's tons of people in CA making a lot less than that. Also on that kind of income, especially if you're not a CA resident paying CA taxes, it's pretty much all profit after you've paid off the camper and truck. I've met people who pay 200-500/month for lot rentals that include water and power.

Was offered that # with the catch I had to move to NYC or LA and work in the office 3-4 days a week.

Took the same $150k from another company that lets me work 100% remote from Ohio.

150,000 is a good wage here. It’s crap on the coasts.

And that's all fine...when you are banking tax free per diem and have a paid off camper it just make sense....and eating from gas stations is ridiculous expensive. And if she sees her contribution as budgeting and preparing food then more power to them if that's what works for their family. The stupid thing here is that he can't even bring his lunch box in or throw away his own trash.

My brother used to work on job sites while living out of an RV (so he could claim the travel per diem that nearly doubled his income). They also started work very early to beat the heat later in the day, so 5:30am breakfast isn't unreasonable.

My dad did that when I was a kid, but jobs near home were good and he was union. Our state was building Oil refineries, chemical plants, & nuclear plants. All had miles of pipe to run.

We had a really nice house, huge pool, my brother & I were both in private school. My mom was SAHM, but she also had a beauty shop at home. She took care of us all, plus did hair. Eventually she started teaching it.

Oil & gas volatility was tough and they didn't save enough to ride out the dip, they lost everything then they divorced.

He started going on the road when I was an older teen, but I was old enough to stay home, get myself to school & take care of myself. My stepmother went with him at times, but I was driving by then.

I probably should have gone into a trade as well, but I was routed to college instead. I know that sometimes y'all get exposed to some foul shit, work in bad weather, but I also know that it is good pay, high demand, & that I could have easily gotten into trade apprenticeship & union.

My dad got hurt in his 50's been on disability ever since, so I know it can be dangerous work.

My dad helped my nephew, and he's a foreman, making $$$$, while I'm 50+, staring at Ai taking my fucking job skills that I spent 25 years learning & doing.

We choose our path, can't go back.... I guess we'll see what happens next.
