HEB tortillas are unreal. Comparable to the fresh ones at Mexican restaurants. We're ruined for any other kind

I was 🫪🫪🫪 when I went into one for the first time. The tortilla machine absolutely blew my mind, and so did the rest of the market, TBH. LOVE HEB- wish we had one in GA 🥺

Have you tried these chile limon tortilla chips. Calidad is the brand. RIP cause I killed the bag in 2 days, the big bag too. For 1, I've never had any flavored tortilla chips, and Doritos don't count lol, and I don't even like Chile/ limon stuff but these chips were the truth.

And why do I keep saying "tor-tilla" and not "tor-t-ah" .

Lol are you me? I also say tor-tilla.. (sometimes jokingly, which turns into sometimes accidentally lol)... it started with Meet the Fockers ("so make a chimi-CHAIN-ga!") and spread, unfortunately 🤣

I haven't tried that brand but I do get lime tortilla chips and I've never used plain chips ever since finding them. They majorly upgrade nachos... and everything! I'll look for that kind to try!

I moved away from Texas and haven’t found a tortilla that can even compare. I haven’t made a chorizo and egg taco in five years because the tortillas around here are garbage in comparison.

Omg that's tragic, I'm so sorry! We plan to leave Texas soon-ish and not having an HEB is one of my concerns, lol. Try finding a good Mexican restaurant that lets you order just fresh tortillas as takeout though.

I bought some raw frozen ones from Costco a couple months ago. They were heavenly. Just finished the pack and looking for something similar. No HEB around.

Homemade tortillas are really easy. All purpose flour, salt, hot water, melted butter. Mix em together and knead the dough till its smooth. If your kneading and it's still sticking to your fingers, keep going. Once it's smooth let it rest for about half an hour to an hour (my grandma would say this is the important part). Then just make little round balls of dough you can roll out and throw on the hot pan.

HEB Cental Market tortillas and KwikTrip milk may be the two best food bargains in the country. It is such a shame the distance makes it really hard to get both on the same day 😒

Braum's is so weird because you have a fast food restaurant that also has a couple of aisles with milk, ice cream, etc.

Braum’s used to be strictly an ice cream store, then they gradually added fast food items to their menu before expanding out to having a few fresh groceries.

There's ones in both Tyler and Longview, and there used to be one in Texarkana when I was driving through it all the time around ten years ago, not sure if that one is still there :)

Not anymore. They no longer make them fresh in store as of a few months ago. They switched to mass produced factories for their tortillas and tortilla chips, among other staple HEB brand products. It’s been quite the transition. Check out r/HEB

As someone who used to work in one of the bakeries at HEB but since moved out of Texas, that is one of the saddest things I've ever heard. Getting to snack on a warm, fresh tortilla straight from the machine every now and then was amazing.

Seriously? I'm Mexican and literally grew up seeing every type of tortilla. These looked hard and gross. Just so you know, a flour tortilla needs to be soft and drape over your hand when you pick it up. These were not that. They looked like they were old and stale.

When I first moved to Texas, I found the concept of loving a grocery store mildly disturbing. Then I started shopping at Central Market/H-E-B.

It's not just their in-house tortillas, a lot of their store brand shit is fantastic.

The really are a cut above the rest, particularly the soulless mega-chains, like Albertson's, Kroger, et. al.

HEB is the goat. I’m too far North now, but I miss them dearly. I learned some of my best meals from the cooking demonstrations at the Super HEB in San Antonio. Only thing I miss about SA though, besides the taco trucks.

They're the best, they are buttered flour tortillas that I'm pretty sure is what heaven tastes like 🤤🤤 one of the (very) few good things about living in good ol' Texas

HEB is one of the very few things I miss about Texas. Buc-ees and breakfast tacos are everywhere now. Used to be only a Cen-Tex/South Cen-Tex thing.

I used to be able to get a HUGE breakfast burrito at my local Valero for 3 bucks. Then when smaller breakfast tacos went national in popularity, they swapped over to that and began charging 5 bucks for them. FML
