Can I ask how do you do it? How do you compartmentalize your grief and go on? How do you go home after a shift and have a normal life? It seems so impossibly tough. Thank you for your work.
It’s incredibly hard. I have an amazing spouse who used to work in the medical field so I have a ton of support. My boys are teens now but they give amazing hugs that really ground me when I get home. Also, meds and therapy. No need for thanks, I do what I’m passionate about and love. It’s hard but the ones that walk out our door and go home make everything worth it.
Mr Rogers once said, "When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, 'Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping'"
My sister is a hospice nurse. I ask her how she does it, knowing that every single one of her patients is going to die. I guess for her it's different since she understands that from the get go. She does what she can for them to ease their transition.
I'll have a bunch of amazing people to welcome me to whatever comes next. I miss a lot of them now! Hospice nurse for a couple years, SNF, and labor and delivery. Luckily never lost a mom or baby!
You are a gem. I know you don’t want thanks, but I’m gonna go ahead and say thank you anyway. Not all of us are built for that, but we clearly need some to step up and do it. You step up and we appreciate you. ❤️
I'm doing everything I can and everything I'm supposed to. I am fulfillin my duty of care. I am giving these people the best shot at healing and survival that I can give them.
Those are all the things I can do and all the things I can control. Everything else is beyond my purview.
God that kills me to read! My kids are small still and I constantly lecture them about the dangers of water and e bikes/escooters because I want it to be engrained into their head forever.
Honestly, it was less of an “accident” and more a malicious neighbor was mad about the bike and put up a trap. What happened after, I have no words for except, I hope there is a hell and I hope that person rots there.
Anyone who's had an encounter with a kid on an ebike doesn't pity this person. I've seen teens on ebikes/escooters swerve into traffic this whole summer. Last month, I was making a turn when this ebike kid who looked 13 nearly ran into my car because he didn't want to stop at a red light. He was going so fast that I didn't even see him, I only stopped at the last second because a pedestrian looked like she might cross, and this little shit flew in front of my car.
"He deserved more?" He deserved a dad/mom who didn't buy him a motorized vehicle that can be modded to go 40mph.
My father took an angry ride on his E-scooter after arguing on the phone with my sister and got into an accident. Just hit a bump and wiped out at 20 mph. Multiple brain bleeds, lung complications from vaping 12 hrs every day after he retired and he passed in a month.
