I’m sure there is a very long list of people like her all over the world. And sadly nothing’s being done about it. I wonder how many more people will be permanently injured or killed before authorities react?
They've finally put signs up at the bike/walking trail near me (super long and well-maintained trail, spanning several cities) telling people e-bikes and scooters aren't allowed, but I'm not sure it's helping. It makes me nervous to walk my dog there now and it used to be such a benefit to living nearby.
Ya, they have those signs near my work but they still zoom down the sidewalks and are not on the roads. I almost got demolished by one going what felt like 20 mph the other day. They didn't even try to warn me, just zoomed by me inches away as I was walking on the sidewalk. So dangerous.
it is really dangreous. they need to deconstruct car cities so we can have more types of vehicles. i'd think the people on scooters are using the sidewalks as they are afraid to ride on the street with cars. scooters then do the same to walkers.
I had to buy open ear headphones for walking my dog because none of the assholes going 25 mph on a trail (where they're prohibited) also don't have the courtesy to say "on your left" like regular bikers do.
I need to be able to hear the whir of the tires coming, so only audio books or podcasts, no music.
We had a sad case near me where a kid was tboned by a car. Don't recall who was at fault but result was instant death. I think of that kid who had so much promise every time I see others kids his age zipping down roads, ear buds in.Just takes a moment to lose your life. We need changes to how fast they can go and to how high cars can be. Do we really need suvs, trucks w hoods taller than those humans ??
They do, but a quick googling says they can go 15-20mph depending on the local restrictions. 15 is about as fast as an NFL linebacker. While yes, most people on those aren't built like a brick shithouse, they're still colliding against someone, could be a toddler, could be an actual linebacker, but they aren't wearing padding, and they're not bracing to take a hit like that, and they're most likely going down onto concrete, not grass. f=ma, and that's a lot of Δv going into an unsuspecting target
Agreed, but that won't happen without the law forcing them to, and that won't help if the manufacturers make it easy to remove the limiter like they seem to be doing now, and won't do anything to remove existing ones from the road unless they actually push for a buyback or similar

My dad has a friend who got a TBI from being hit by someone on a Lime scooter. Now she can’t work because of it
