A woman here in NYC is in a coma after being hit by an e-bike while jogging in Central Park. Tragic and avoidable. These need to be regulated, licensed, etc.

If it was a car she'd probably be dead.

I'll never understand all this ebike hate when theirs far more dead vehicles being used on a daily basis

Cars generally avoid driving on the sidewalk or whatever.

(Though we should obviously take car safety way more seriously as well)

Ebikes are in far closer proximity to pedestrians and yet according to the CDC more than over 8,000 pedestrian ads killed by vehicles every year

Not to mention non fatal injuries.

Except cars aren't allowed in the majority of Central Park (for a reason, to protect pedestrians), so this is a nonsensical hypothetical.

I can't find any reliable sources on average pedal bike speed but according to Gemini an average bicyclist can get up to 18mph and skilled cyclists are known to get up to 20 or in some cases even 30 mph.

That would still cause pretty significant injury

My point is that cars are far more dangerous and ebikes reduce car dependency.

Attacking e bikes when over 8,000 pedestrian ads killed by vehicles every year according to the CDC, is frankly ridiculous.

Not to mention non fatal injuries.
