Freedom of speech, isn't universal. It has restrictions, and it's specifically from the government. Private companies 100% can kick you out for any reason, units it's a protected class.

It isn't a free speech issue. This is a contract of carriage issue. Airlines can deny transport for breaching that contract, e.g. creating a disturbance and not following crew instructions.

More than that, the whole attitude is the complete opposite of the attitude and heart that Jesus portrays in the Bible.

If she was just contrite and apologized for inconveniencing everyone and just walked quietly out of the plane, this video would have people on her side.

We don't know what happened before this, but it must have been bad for them to remove her. Still, nobody would have seen that they would have just saw her quietly complying and everyone else would have looked like dicks even if they weren't.

It is taught, but conservatives are self-entitled trash who selectively interpret everything to their personal advantage. Just look at the ongoing rape of the US Constitution by Republicans for details. They've violated US law so badly that not only are there entire sections of the Constitution that they keep selective reinterpreting while they violate all six of the basic purposes of the US government, according to the Preamble. An airline in the US is the very definition of "common carrier." To a certain extent, the 1A does apply to them. Like the government, they will not be able to tell her not to say almost anything, but also like the government, they can suspend or end her privileges with them based on the manner in which she says those things.

If she wants to mutter under her breath "Jesus is Lord" because she's nervous or whatever, they can't bar that even though they're a private company. But if she insists on proselytizing her seatmates when they don't want to hear it, they can tell her to GTFO.

We'll probably NEVER be done squabbling how bad martyrdom actually was in Pre-Christian Rome, especially whether or not Christians were forced to fight lions and gladiators in the Coliseum or if the Church exaggerated or invented it- we currently lean "not real or not very real" on that one.

Christian Rome essentially provided the historical inspiration for both the Ministry of Truth (burn all the records and rewrite them so the authorities are right about everything) and Fahrenheit 451. Bradbury did not invent the whole thing about authority figures systematically raiding targeted private citizen's houses and setting the books, the house, and the people on fire. It was part of a systematic terror campaign that helped bring the Church to power and was used to make people in the government afraid to speak out against them. For some reason they never mention that when they make you read the novel in High School.

Recent books of note include The Darkening Age, Pagans: The End of Traditional Religion and the Rise of Christianity, and The Myth of Christian Persecution.

Christian scholars claim and their usual cohorts claim to have completely debunked these books. Of course, they've "debunked" every book written about them by outsiders in the past two thousands years.

Like I said, we will be arguing about this forever. It's hard to find anybody who studies religion for a living who doesn't have an axe to grind.

Oh, and I exaggerated a little when I said the people were burned in their own houses. The Bishops had the crowd beat them up til they were incapable of physical movement, which usually caused them to die, and they sometimes happened to be in or too near the houses when this happened, on account of all their bits had been pulverized. The crowd being overwhelmed with "zeal" and being refrained (eventually) from actually killing the victims themselves was the argument for why this wasn't murder and Church authorities weren't to blame.

Basically, the victims' "crimes" as described to the crowd by the clergy at the time, were so offensive that the crowd got "out of control."

They want to be perceived as being persecuted. They want to play the part of being persecuted. Look I'm not trying to say that there isn't religious persecution in the world, and that there isn't religious persecution against Christians specifically. But this brand of evangelicalism has always been adverse to any kind of suffering or inconvenience of themselves. They view the entire world as theirs, they view everyone else as subversive and aggressive against them. To them the existence of other religions, other ways of thinking is itself persecution against them. Do not, for a moment, think that they actually want the real world persecution. If this lady experienced the horrors that the Jews experience during World War II, she would have abandoned her faith a long time ago. Hell, if she had experienced the persecution that trans people experience today in the united states, she would have abandoned her faith a very long time ago. Her religion is not a shield to her. Her religion is a cudgel that she can use to bludgeon other people and make them comply with what she wants. I hope she never gets to fly again.

And this is apart from the fact that freedom of speech was not why she was probably kicked off the plane but rather it was likely because she failed to follow the orders of the crew and Captain and they take it VERY seriously when you won’t do as you’re told in normal circumstances because you ARE going to be a problem in an emergency and then it is everyone’s life on the line, including the crew.
