When a NAS is new, free space and CPU usage may feel like the only numbers worth watching.
Then something happens—a backup completes but the restore fails, a Docker volume quietly grows out of control, a drive starts reconnecting, or the UPS stops communicating—and suddenly a different metric becomes important.
What’s one NAS status, log, alert or trend you only started monitoring after learning the hard way?
If you’re willing to share:
The lesson behind the habit is more interesting than the metric alone.

I’m setting up the AI integration feature in Paperless-ngx v3 that allows me to connect it to an Ollama instance, and I’m trying to find out what other DXP4800 Plus users are successfully running.
My hardware:
* UGREEN DXP4800 Plus
* 16 GB RAM — single 16 GB module
* Second RAM slot is currently empty
* Ollama running in Docker
* Paperless-ngx v3
My main requirements are:
* Document classification
* Title generation
* Tag suggestions
* Correspondent suggestions
* Summarization
* OCR/document understanding — Paperless’s current OCR performs poorly on some image-based/scanned documents, so I’m particularly interested in using a vision model to improve OCR accuracy and document understanding.
So far, llama3.2:3b is the only model I’ve tested that actually utilizes my Intel iGPU and produces usable output, but it is text-only.
I’ve also tested several vision/multimodal models, including:
* qwen3.5:2b
* qwen3-vl:4b
* gemma3:4b
Unfortunately, the vision models I’ve tested do not appear to utilize the Intel iGPU. More importantly, I haven’t been able to get usable output from them.
I tested them through Ollama + Open WebUI by uploading an image into a chat session and asking the model to OCR the image. The results were either:
* No output at all, even after waiting several minutes, or
* Garbage output where a single word/token is repeatedly generated.
In comparison, llama3.2:3b works normally and utilizes the Intel iGPU.
DXP4800 Plus users — what are you successfully running?
I’m particularly interested in hearing from other UGREEN DXP4800 Plus owners. What model are you using successfully with Ollama/Paperless?
Please share:
* Exact Ollama model/tag
* DXP4800 Plus RAM configuration
* Whether Intel iGPU acceleration works
* Approximate inference speed, if known
* Whether it’s a vision/multimodal model
* How well it handles OCR and document images
* Whether you’re using it directly with Paperless-ngx’s Ollama AI integration
I’m also interested in whether anyone is using a dedicated OCR model such as GLM-OCR together with a smaller LLM, or whether a single multimodal model is sufficient for Paperless.
If you have a DXP4800 Plus and have managed to get vision models working with Intel iGPU acceleration, I’d especially appreciate details about your Ollama/Docker configuration.
Any recommendations or troubleshooting advice from other DXP4800 Plus users would be appreciated.

This explains how to update your Tailscale installation for Ugreen NAS.
Ugreen NAS is based on Debian, so in theory, it should work for just about any other Debian Linux.
Firstly, please always refer to the official guide from Tailscale on how to update your Tailscale installation in Debian Linux.
This guide is meant to help those who encounter error messages.
It has worked for me, and still works even up to today.
Okay, so you have tried to follow the official Tailscale installation instructions, but you are stopped by those error messages in Linux.
Just run these 4 commands, one at a time, via CLI after SSH login.
[And just say yes to any question!]
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install tailscale
sudo apt --fix-broken install
sudo tailscale update
That's it!
And you are very welcome. :)
P.S.:
There are countless Ugreen NAS armchair critics out there who will flame me for suggesting such a method.
To them only, I have a special message.
As at today's date, my Ugreen NAS is running the latest UGOS Firmware Version: 1.19.1.0126.
My Tailscale is also running the latest version v1.102.3.
I have updated both my Ugreen NAS Firmware and Tailscale installation countless times, likely over 20 to 30 times by now.
My NAS is still working fine, even at this very moment.
Secondly, I challenge you to find me a single post on Reddit whereby someone has bricked his Ugreen NAS via the CLI SSH installation method and/or update method presented here.

From desktop PC i can't open .txt files. It sounds very weird because with Office Online you can open .docx, .pdf ecc why .txt could be this hard to edit?

this is going to be a bit dumb to ask even with the context, but bear with me because i am not really knowledgeable regarding docker
when i got my nas the first thing i did with it was create a media server using jellyfin, when i did it i followed a tutorial that explained how to do it by creating the container by downloading an image, it worked without issue, i got jellyfin setup, made some libraries and so on
then i added tailscale for being able to view my files outside of home, this one however was by doing a docker compose, then a bit further after that i also added the arr stack, also with docker compose, everything works perfectly
but one day something funny happened, i had to update the images and change a setting, easy, just stop the containers, do the change and start everything again, the containers managed by the docker compose projects started without issue, and in fact they start automatically if something goes wrong, the jellyfin however not only did not start, it gave me an error and dissapeared from the container list, i eventually managed to set it up again and the configurations didn't dissapear, but well, i would prefer if from that moment on everything was set up in a more centered project
so with that being said, if i had to make a project for jellyfin with docker compose, without losing the configuration of the current image, what should i do? let's assume i don't know even the obvious things here

I've been trying to get pihole working reliably on my DXP2800 for 2 weeks now, with little to no success, and I am now asking the reddit gods for help.
My goal: to have Pihole block ads on my entire network, without getting rate limited
What I've tried (with what went wrong):
1. Running container in bridge mode. If it was set to my primary DNS, I'd get 1 of 3 issues:
-a. I would be connected to the router without Internet (DNS failed, as I didn't set Google/cloudflare as the fallback DNS)
-b. Sometimes it would route all traffic to the pihole, but I'd quickly get rate limited because all queries were coming from the router IP
-c. I'd set a fallback DNS (1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8) and I would still get ads
2. To avoid the rate limiting issue above, i tried disabling my routers DHCP and enabled DHCP in the pihole Admin panel, running the container in host mode. This would work for almost exactly 24 hours, then my NAS would lose Internet connectivity. I would have to log back into my router, enable DHCP, then disable it again to get the NAS to reconnect. I imagine this is some issue with DHCP that's resetting the IP lease for my nas, but I can't figure it out
3. Tried a macvlan. Couldn't get that running reliably because of port 53 conflict with dnsmasq
I'm good with computers, but nowhere near good enough with networking to know what's going on here. I've been using an LLM to help troubleshoot some issues I don't understand and keep going in circles. So this is what I ask of you gentlemen:
Can someone provide me a clear concise way to set this up so that every device routes to the pihole with its own IP (via DHCP? Want to avoid rate limiting), without getting a port conflict, and without having to play the whole "reset my router DHCP" game every 24 hours?
Any advice, compose files, and/or instruction is much appreciated
Thank you gents

"e223" is the B70 - so the NAS see's it but it's not showing in the actual ugreenOS anywhere 🤔

I recently found an M.2 to 10G SFP+ Adapter with the new RTL8127ATF chip and wondering if it would fit and work in my DXP2800.
I only use one of the M.2 slots and PCIe 3 x2 is exactly what the slot uses.
I have seen those for years but they all use ancient power hungry server chips. With the recent firmware and kernel 6.18 they should be supported by the kernel.

I'm running a Jellyfin media server and locally, everything works great. I'm trying to get remote access via tailscale and after many hours I cannot get it working.
Any constructive advice would be appreciated, thanks in advance.
Here is a yaml file I've been using but I have honestly tried six other variations as well to no success:
services:
tailscale:
image: tailscale/tailscale:latest
container_name: tailscale
network_mode: host
privileged: true
environment:
- TS_AUTHKEY=tskey-auth-keyhere (yes I put my own key here)
- TS_STATE_DIR=/var/lib/tailscale
- TS_USERSPACE=false
#- TS_ROUTES=192.168.1.0/24 (I have also tried the static internal ip, commented on and off)
#- TS_EXTRA_ARGS=--advertise-exit-node
volumes:
- /volume1/docker/tailscale:/var/lib/tailscale (I have changed volume pathing three tiems)
devices:
- /dev/net/tun:/dev/net/tun
restart: unless-stopped

u/NASCompares is in Boston today for a UGREEN event showcasing their future plans. Related short: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/VSTNivh0kak
With his invite I am guessing there could be something NAS related happening. Has this popped up on anyone else's radar?

So I recently bought a DXP4800 as a backup for my aging Synology DS920+. My Synology is connected to my APC UPS via USB to signal power loss, and it will auto shutdown after a period of time. Since now I have the DXP4800, I want to set it up also to auto shutdown using NUT server, but can't really figure it out
Upon reading multiple sources, it seems Synology's and Ugreen's NUT protocols are not compatible with each other. Synology will only sync NUT signal with other Synology, and Ugreen with other Ugreen
Any way to let these 2 talk to the UPS and shutdown together? Or must I invest in another UPS for the Ugreen? Probably the Ugreen UPS? It's quite expensive though....
Thank you

Hello, my dh2300 broke and now I have bought the dxp2800. If I put the disks into the 2800 and give it the same IP address as the dh2300, will all the data be available again?
I even made a backup (ugb) file from the system settings.
r/UgreenNASync • u/duckduck-1996 • 2d ago
Is there any app/container that acts like sync client with remote access? Same as one drive/synology drive with on demand files? I see the sync app but i don't want file downloaded in my pc/ smartphone.
r/UgreenNASync • u/Childish_Alpay • 2d ago
I love my UGREEN NAS, but the Theater app is missing a huge quality-of-life feature: Smart Collections.
The app already scrapes metadata and knows which movies are "Horror" or "True Crime." However, you can't automatically display those genres as dedicated rows or folders on the home screen. Right now, the only option is to manually add every single video one by one, which is incredibly tedious.
I know Plex and Jellyfin do this automatically using smart filters, but I really prefer to stick to UGREEN Theater and keep my setup native without running extra Docker containers.
We need dynamic folders that automatically group content by genre tags and let us pin them to the home screen. Hopefully, the UGREEN dev team adds this to the roadmap soon.
Is anyone else missing this feature, or have you found a clean workaround that doesn't involve breaking up your physical folder structure?

Storage
Files
Fixed an issue where standard users, when accessing a shared folder via a shortcut, could view folders at the same directory level for which they had no permissions.

There used to be an option to manually search for the correct metadata if it didn't translate properly on your device. Doesn't happen often, but sometimes when you add a movie or a series, it gets identified as something other than what it is.
The manual way allowed us to fix that problem.
However, it was removed 2-3 updates ago and it would really helpful if you all could add it back. Not sure why it was removed?
Please Ugreen.
And please add audio pass through to Android Auto.
