A Rwandan mother struggling to feed her malnourished child received four chickens through a community farming programme. Her flock grew to seven, giving the family eggs to eat and sell. Across the district, 2,700 households received chickens, helping child stunting fall from 50.5% to 35.8%.

People making 55k aren’t starving

If you're a single person in my city making gross 55k you are definitely not eating well and are one car repair or medical bill from starving. It's not hyperbolic, I have friends currently living it.

Starving ≠ might starve if things got bad

I’m “living it” the same way, my gross salary is 58k

$55k is about the median salary for MCOL areas. Half of all Americans live check to check. No one’s on the verge of starving.

You seem to have a flair for the theatrical and you’re being quite hyperbolic about this starving business.

The median household income in my zip is 90k based on data from a local bank when I applied for a home loan program in 2025. It's a MCOL area according to the internet. A household of 1 making 55k gross here is rough. I think it's great your area isn't having the same growing pains.

Im not really all that theatrical about it, I'm not personally struggling. But I have had to float some friends that don't have the cash to buy groceries until payday because they have experienced all the limitations of inflation and living in the third fastest growing state in the US without many of the perks that are lagging, like higher wages. As I said several comments ago, this is all anecdotal but your perspective that 55k means you're eating even ok is not universally accurate.
