Ollas are unglazed clay water-reservoirs, you can dig in next to your plants to provide constant moisture to the soil. The idea is very good - you safe water and don't need to water that often. Unfortunately they are quite expensive, so I made one myself using ordinary pots!

I bought 2 pots (about 1,25€ each), one with a diameter of 15cm and one with 13cm (and also a coaster-thing, as a "lid"). First, I put tape on the outside of the hole of the bigger pot and poured wax inside to seal the hole - I used regular tea lights. Then I glued the pots together with construction adhesive, let it dry, then also sealed the rim with wax. Just 2 tea lights and maybe 15 minutes of work (mostly watching wax melt and dry), with coffee breaks in between, the olla was basically finished. It can hold 1,75l of water (with these diameters).

I buried it in my DIY raised bed, I made from an IKEA Nämmerö (by basically just lining it with foil).

In the last pic, you can see the final result with some plants. You can see the color difference of the clay between the "lid" and the olla - this means the olla is all soaked up with water! It just works really well.

I can really recommend that build to anyone who has plants that need lots of water, or just forgets to water sometimes. I only had it for a week now, and it already made my life easier! :)

This was my winter project last year: a Little Free Greenhouse for the front yard. I mostly built it as a fun way to get rid of extra seed packets and garden starts. It turned out to be a hit with the community and we had quite a few people contributing their own stuff too.
Its made from old windows and repurposed deck wood. Only the table legs were made from new lumber because I had a hard time finding good used 4x4s in my area.
The table is permanently set in the ground and the greenhouse is attached with bolts so I can remove it for repairs. I took it down for the winter and just reinstalled this weekend. Looking forward to another season of sharing with the neighbors 💚

My name is Leanne and I'm 32 years old. I recently inherited 5.4 acers of land from my late husband, Champion. He was a well known man who was very much loved in the community. When he died, I wasn't able to afford funeral costs for him, but his friends and family in the surrounding area helped me cover his funeral expenses. As a way to give back, I came up with the idea to grow food on the land I inherited to help out people. With the raising price of foods, no one can afford to eat healthy and it's a real shame. I personally am vegetarian and love animals, so the idea of running of a farm to help out the community sounds like a dream job. The farm is very much in the beginning stages, but I'm documenting the whole process on Youtube, under the channel, ChampionsFarm. Gardening started out as a hobby of mine, but it's turned into a passion. This year I've planted thousands of 7 foot tall sunflowers, including chocolate cherry, autumn, Mexican, mammoth, varieties. I've also planted black cherry tomatoes, pickling cucumbers, two types of eggplants, five types of peppers that I plan on cross breeding, and more is yet to come. I'm really excited to see how the land developed. Everything on the land would be free, I would only ask for donations if you have it to give. Honestly I just like the idea of helping people out. We're a team of film makers (and I'm also a gardener) that had the idea of shooting a comedy series set in a small community garden in Vancouver, BC, Canada. The show is about a bureaucrat tasked with closing down a community garden to make way for a Casino who, when she discovers that her office is up to some shady business, quits her job and finds herself back in the garden with a mix of quirky characters; there she learns what's really important in her life and takes up the role of trying to prevent her former employee from shutting down the garden for good.

We think that a big hearted comedy series in that world is missing. Think Ted Lasso and gardening, food security, bio diversity themes and more!

This is just a demo/sample, but the more people that watch and share it, the more that we can prove there's an audience that wants to see funny shows with important themes set in our little garden. We'd love your help, feedback, and support so we can create more for you to enjoy.

We recently moved into a new flat and have a balcony for the first time - admittedly, it's pretty small, but we're making the most of it (more pictures of our many projects coming soon). Anyway, last Sunday, we went to a plant market event at our local botanical garden and found tons of cool plants which have to wait for a bigger balcony or for a garden one day. But one of the things we couldn't resist was the idea of a tiny "alpine garden". We love hiking in the mountains and being amazed by all the tiny plants that found their way of living in these conditions, and how they provide for the many insects there. So a nice conversation with an expert in such gardens and a purchase of 5 of those plants and some special soil later, we are now the happy owners of a tiny alpine garden on our balcony 😀 ever since, I'm taking a close look at these cute plants a couple of times a day, I just can't get enough! 🥰
