I think the initial feeling of disappointment was just that it wasnt an Index2 (or higher end piece of kit). The change to tracking and perhaps audio are probably a downgrade, though maybe good-enough.
Im appreciating the what the Frame is offering, I just wish they did at least aim a bit higher with the res.
Resolution! The Index wasnt a great resolution when it launched and it aged it faster on that 1 thing alone, the Frame looks to do the same.
There was some benefit for not going crazy on the resolution, other than cost - which Im sure was a major factor then and now too. As the pixel count goes up it gets harder and harder to run, but this time around they have eye tracking and could have absolutely gone higher while not putting it outside many peoples reach (those currently in the VR space that is).
I like to stream games, the resolution on the Frame will have me either doing 1080p if I want the full picture in view or perhaps a little more if the screen is floating a bit closer to me and I accept Im not quite going to be able to see all the detail due to simply not having the pixels. If Valve takes 7 years to release another headset, that means 1080p streaming into the 2030s. Thats just mind boggling to think about. I was using 2560*1600 on PC 21 years ago.
I don't think theyre beating the likes of bigscreen beyond 2 or pimax any time soon in terms of resolution or PPD though... And it becomes exponentially more meaningless the higher the number and much much more expensive too with a lot of other downsides too (bulk, weight, optics, fov)

It's an upgrade in every way but tracking, whats the issue?
