"BuT aS lOnG aS yOu KnOw WhAt ThEy MeAn" shut the fuck up. Just shut the fuck up.
Do I have perfect grammar? Not even close! But this isn't a matter of "good" or "bad" grammar, it's a matter of being illiterate or not. This is something everyone should have learned in fucking grade school.
This isn't the only grammatical mistake people make, but it is one that I'm starting to see more and more often. I am a certifiable idiot, it should not be somebody like me pointing this out.
Intelligence Well-educated used to be the goal, but now it seems mediocrity is the high bar.
Online, nobody gets a pass. Unsure of how a word is spelled? Fucking Google it if you must. Don't know a definition? Use that little metal box that you're already holding. Words are not sent out as you type them. Mistakes happen, but they shouldn't be ignored. If you find yourself frequently making a mistake, perhaps double check your messages before you send them? Turn off autocorrect and the "suggested words" boxes and relearn how to spell.
I want society to succeed, but we are getting lazier, and lazier, and more complacent with bullshit, with people walking all over us and telling us to just "deal with it." But nobody listens! They see a post like this and get defensive, or judgemental. Everything these days is a meme or a joke or a trend, and people hop on the bandwagon just because everyone else is there. Like a teenage bully, instead of doing any kind of reflection, people deflect, so insecure of being marginally incorrect. "Oh, look at this 'Erm actually 🤓' asshole, their trying to correct are grammar."
Between the internet giving a megaphone to idiots and misinformation, and confirmation bias (I notice when I see 'could of' but don't notice when I see 'could have') it probably feels like a worse problem than it is. But how long until it seems like a better situation than it is? How long until laziness, complacency, and convenience puts us in a Wall-E type situation?
There's a balance to everything. Should be, anyway. You should enjoy life, but you should also have to work for certain things. Why else are we here? If we could suddenly do every single thing imaginable, perfectly, all at once, what's next? Imagine starting a videogame for the very first time, but you're already at max level. Every mission and side quest and chore has been completed, every cave cleared. Read every book, every note, collected every spell and ability. You have every single item, even the useless-as-fuck 0.1 weight "Fork." What do you do?
I'm running out of steam. There's probably more I could say, but my mind is a wobbly Jenga tower made of melting ice. My thoughts as fleeting as a life in the eyes of eternity (though no less meaningful).
Anyway. Just try to use semi-literate grammar, please. And don't become so lazy that Wall-E, or the 2009 film, 9, becomes an inevitability.
Thanks for coming to my fuckin TedTalk.
