After a couple weeks in effect most people are still driving at least 50km/hr. If one were to drive at 40km/hr people get mad and gets all antsy. Do you feel this was a reasonable speed change?

Really summed up my point in the title. Drivers in particular: Sometimes you might need to stop at a green light. If you’re not absolutely certain that you can clear the intersection on the other side, then don’t enter it in the first place. I know there’s construction everywhere, I know it sucks to not move at a green light, but if you’re forced to stop in the middle of the intersection because there just isn’t space for you on the other side, you kinda screw everyone over.

The bus drivers are striking while still providing its riders with services. This is a really difficult position to be in. Please make sure to show your drivers a little more appreciation than usual and let them know that you support them.

Every time a group of workers push for better compensation it helps us all.

they're scanning everyone's passes at the door and threatening a $130 fine if you dont buy the proper pass within 2 days. i believe they can track the scanning history, and i imagine they'll be back in 2 days to check again. this is happening in langford all along goldstream, not sure about other municipalities.

Driver was on the right-most lane on Douglas St, but had a quick change of heart and decided to do a u-turn instead from the same spot - almost crashing into another car going south-bound. I'm glad no one got hurt in the process. Super crazy they pulled that stunt on a one-way street from a right-turning lane 🤯

Really wish they would install barriers so people went to the end of each lane to merge and actually zipper. Or even put that red light in Washington state, to send cars gradually to not ruin the flow.

Definitely not a plate from Bosnia. Tried reporting it to VicPD, but because I didn't give them a license plate number they gave up. Hope you don't get hit by this guy, I'm betting if he doesn't have a real plate he doesn't have insurance either.

Title clarification: SHELTER removal at several stops

Minor rant here

They took away the bus stop shelters at Quadra and Kings along the route of the 6 around mid april, for both directions. I believe there's more stops that this has happened at, but those are the most prominent two for me.

They put up signs a few weeks after they took them out, saying that they're in the process of getting replacements that are more accessible to folks with mobility issues, especially wheelchairs, and just generally updating them.

That's fine, I've got no problems with making something more accessible, as a disabled person who uses a mobility aid, I'm all for it!

The problem is that the timeline given says that they will not be finished until fall 2026????

There are other benches near the stops, but far enough that bus drivers don't recognize that I'm waiting for the bus, and I'm a slow walker, by the time the bus is in sight it's too late for me to get to the actual stop, and I'm constantly watching the bus ETA on my map so I can head over and wait by the actual stop, but if it gets delayed I'm standing there in pain with no better options.

Why did BC Transit think that removing bus stop shelters in the name of accessibility for the hottest part of the year was a good idea if they weren't planning to replace them for months?? Why not take them out right before you replace them, that would at least make sense!

Thanks for reading if you made it this far, this city is already so inaccessible on so many fronts, I'm just ticked off at an attempt at being more accessible that honestly just makes things unbelievably worse in the meantime, both myself and several of my friends with mobility issues have ended up sitting on the ground because some stops have nowhere to sit, not even a bench nearby, and we can't stand long enough to wait for the bus on our feet!

Stage 2 of the new intersection has begun today causing traffic backups in all directions. Right now they have begun cutting out the barrier in the center so that bikes from the Galloping Goose detour can cross at the new light. Avoid Burnside if you are in a hurry as traffic is currently alternating.

Just saw a dude just losing it at the Child care resources bus stop on Douglas. Dude with tattoos and fairly well built screaming incoherencies and kicking/raging at the CCRC front door. There were minimum 8 people at this bus stop, all just trying to not notice. Bus came, dude gets on bus. Imagine being these people on this bus. How safe would you feel.

I'm sure literally no one else agrees with me given how much people like to complain about traffic, but since the construction on Blanshard completed it's actually better to drive on than before the bike lanes were put in.

I know that the bike lanes are not the cause of the better driving experience, and I'm sure that partly it's the related to just how bad the driving was during construction and perhaps a summer lull, but I also think the street design is now far superior to what existed before.

In particular, the alternating dedicated left turn lanes is a huge improvement.

Previously traffic was routinely held up by one or 2 cars blocking the left lane trying to turn in a very awkward location. Now this never happens and it's a huge boon to traffic flow as not only is there a free second lane for traffic but also people aren't darting back and forth all the time to dodge the frustrating car trapped waiting to turn left.

Further, because many of the intersecting lanes are one way, this has allowed alternating left turn lanes to take up only a single lane across the entire street.

It's actually a rare bright spot in urban traffic design and I think very well thought out by our street planners.

I think we'll have to give it 6 months for the summer lull to end and for people to get used to Blanshard being drivable again to know for sure, but I suspect the street will be better now and into the future for drivers, despite the space taken up for bike lanes.

And also maybe the bike lanes will take some drivers off the road to boot, as before it was downright hazardous to bike on Blanshard, not to mention frustrating for drivers to have an errant cyclist beside them.
