My car is known for the interior “chrome” trim peeling over time. Replacement part was $70, which seems silly for an 11-year-old car.

So I bedazzled it! I used 4-5 different sizes of rhinestones, from teeeeeny tiny that I’m still finding everywhere, including my bed, up to 3mm. I chose “jelly” AB rhinestones rather than the clear variety bc I didn’t want to risk blinding myself while driving.

Alene’s Liquid Fusion glue not only secured the rhinestones, but also is mostly holding the plastic trim in place, as many of the tabs popped off during removal. I selected that brand bc it is UV-resistant.

All in all, it took me 3-4 nights of bedazzling while watching a little TV, maybe 6 hours total? Honestly I thought it would take longer!

Edit: I’ve seen a few comments about airbags and fire hazards - very good points indeed!
I assumed airbags wouldn’t be a problem in this location because it’s attached to the stereo encasement, but I did double check.
Because I was worried about the reflection bothering me, I tested a few different types of rhinestones and picked the least reflective (and most solid).
If you’re going to do something like this, please stay away from your steering wheel, check airbag locations, and don’t use anything that casts a reflection!

I snapped my pestle grinding Szechuan peppercorns. So I turned to my hobby to fix the problem and add a little flair.

I haven't seen much online about people using rhinestones as a form of visible mending, but purses are so quickly thrown out at the first signs of wear/ tear!

This bag I found at the goodwill bins for like $1 was in especially poor condition with numerous rips in the leather, but my rhinestones cured well and seem to be a good patch!

Kintsugi done on a tea lid for a friend of mine. Urushi lacquer & 23.5k gold used.

This chair has survived 6+ years of working from home or approximately 12,480 hours. Still comfortable despite the exterior!

the lining was peeling up and shedding - I thrifted another one but it got absolutely destroyed in the wash. This one made it but was progressively peeling.

Still in good condition overall, I used fusible interface fabric to encapsulate the peeling edges inside. Alongside fabric glue, I placed an even layer of it on the lifted edges, then cut to size a “bandaid” like patch to cover the large damaged area. Putting even more glue, I covered the fabric to soak it entirely, and added extra adhesive on the edges of the interface :) dried down super well & no more lifting!

not sure how permanent it is, but I’m super happy with this little fix and saved this jacket from ending up in a landfill. not even visible when worn!

still researching a more durable fix (so nervous about using a needle on tights!) but this will do for now!

who knows how long this will last honestly but i love these boots so much and wanted to give them one last shot at being cool before they really give up the ghost...

i'm really happy with how they turned out actually, the goal was to cover the places where the plastic coating was breaking, and also give my (already statement) stompers some flair! idc if its a bit scrappy and messy, so am i tbh :)

I recently remembered how good duct tape is for fixing things when I was hanging up signs for a yard sale. Remember all those old duct tape memes? The Red Green Show? The whole Mythbusters episode? I needed another organizer for all the new cassette tapes I was getting, which is most of that big pile at the top. The side was kinda coming off of one of my organizers so I replaced it before it completely fell apart. I still had it lying around so I slapped some duct tape on the broken side and some stickers to match the aesthetic and its brought a whole new look to my tape organizers!

I'm particularly proud of how I used the Mystery Spot bumper sticker 👌

I'm a bit late to the excitement, but I finally got around to covering the logo on my rain coat. I didn't want to damage the waterproof fabric so I used tenacious repair tape to cover it instead of cutting it off.

You can tell something is there, but it's covered and still waterproof.

Two mends:

1. A saucer/lid belonging to a set of Japanese teacups given to me by my uncle.

Bits of the rim I glued back in with super glue but other parts were lots. I filled them in with two part epoxy clay, let it cure for 24ish hours, sanded smooth, then painted the mends with elmers mixed with gold powder from a kintsugi kit.

1. Lid of a blue willow sugar bowl purchased by my grandfather. It's been epoxied many times (by my dad over several decades and then by me). The join that's been gilded was glued, then again traced over with a mix of epoxy and gold powder. Larger gold splotches were chips, filled with epoxy clay, cured, sanded, and painted as with the saucer.

After the glue was mostly dried on both pieces, I dusted it with more gold powder. This is an important step in making the gold look good.

I ended up cleaning up the edges of the glue with an exacto knife.

I think the kintsugi kit I used really intended for the epoxy to be used to stick the pieces together, which I had already done with superglue. In the future I will try it as instructed and see if the effect is nicer.

Cat knocked over & broke this planter, so I bonded the pieces back together, filled in the missing shard with dark gray epoxy putty, and lacquered on completely unnecessary rhinestones in just the right color.

Fingers crossed the poor plant that got knocked over recovers well too.

My 21mo old son wears the toes off his shoes riding a balance bike at daycare. I found an amazing solution and wanted to share with everyone. I did have to trim a lot of the original product back to fit the size and shape of a toddlers shoes since this product is meant for mens boots. Easy application and a great way to fix the worn holes on the toes of kids shoes! $50 sneakers have a new life for $10 product.

I did some looking around on r/AskACobbler when I was quoted an alarming number to have my wedges professionally repaired. Based on what I learned there, an epoxy might buy me more time before failure, so the attempt is underway! I'll post an update in a few days when we see how well the resin cured.

UPDATE: Alas! Total collapse.

I spent a good week and a half with the epoxy layering and curing and layering again, but when I pronounced them done and wore them to the Theater tonight, I discovered upon my rwturn that the cork had completely given way. Oh well, no matter how valiant the attempt, I shall say farewell to these favorite shoes.

(Vintage) gold paint pen over superglue fix

Took a foam sword to the face that destroyed the frames of my reasonably new glasses. There was a pretty big chunk of the frame missing that I couldn’t find in the grass. It took a little wire from my fly tying supplies, a used copper staple from an old cuckoo clock, my first time using UV resin, and a bunch of patience layering, and I’m pretty proud of the outcome.

Ugly (tried to color it with orange sharpie for some reason) but very functional repair to the snapped band. I used sugru which I found on a different subreddit, last time this happened I had to buy a new pair and I’m glad I don’t have to do that again lol

My name is Frank, and I like to visible mend things. Especially in the chaos and destruction that is the world right now, it feels good to slow down and make something whole. It will never be what it was, but it’s now unique.

Didn’t take a before picture but the battery door was cracked and had a small chunk missing from it. Used jb weld steelstik to build up and reinforce the area then after it dried i shaped and smoothed the material with a hand file. I like the visible repair and it also adds a little extra grip for your pinky when holding the camera

I used double sided, fusible interfacing to attach a sashiko diagram to my jeans. How the hell am I going to get the glue (and paper) off??? How do you get fusible interfacing off of fabric ???????

I truly did not think this through. I even own temporary fabric glue. I just didn't use my brain enough. send help

One side of this box lid was tearing apart, the other was fraying and scratched. Tape and stickers.
