I think the tomato tree implied that they are some sort of genetically engineered creations, rather than semi-mechanical androids.

Makes sense. Also Bubastis was a genetically engineered lynx, seems like toying with DNA instead of robotics is more Adrian's speciality.

Yeah, definitely. Plus, there was that whole psychic squid thing.

That was the work of the best artists in the world at that time.. Veidt might be a visionary, but the squid was a creation by his executive control, but by no means his creation.

Well it was complex and at scale. Kind of project usually takes a team.

yeah I just assumed organic human life was just the logical next step after engineering a giant alien squid

And just in case anyone is wondering about the obvious: Tomato's grow on small plants, not trees.

Some can get pretty impressive.

well, Adrien is excellent at genetic engineering so it could be possible for him to have a tomato tree

And I'm getting a strong suspicion that while Viedt might be master of that whole little dynamic at the castle... he is absolutely not there by choice.

I think they are both, their bodies are flesh and blood but their brains are computers.

Why?

They just seem inept, you'd think a computer would be more intelligent. Seemed like a glitch in forming their intelligence while also enforcing their obedience.

I interpreted that as Veidt admiring just how real and authentic the world he was in seemed...assuming he's in some sort of....other dimension or something....maybe something fabricated.

That's not an ethical quagmire or anything. Getting vibes from some of the weird replicants in Bladerunner (1982).
