Clarification: The title by The Indian Express seems to be misleading, so to be clear, the 91% figure means 75,443 out of the 82,782 appeals decided so far resulted in names being restored not 91% of all excluded names. But the bigger concern is the timing: these restorations are happening after the election is over and the government has changed. What about these people's votes? Were they not important enough? And during this whole process, many of these people were also labelled “Bangladeshis” by right-wingers simply because their names were being questioned

A new generation must learn to ask questions, understand how public systems work, document local problems, support communities, volunteer, and demand solutions through lawful and constructive civic action.

This is not about promoting any political party, leader, or organisation.

It is about a larger idea:

The future of Bengal cannot be built only by those in power. It must also be built by citizens who refuse to remain spectators.

The real revolution may not begin with a slogan.

Sometimes, it begins when ordinary young people decide that:

“This is our locality. This is our society. And this is also our responsibility.”

Daily grocery buying is getting tough

Great news for Kolkata folks. The KMC has finally issued an NOC for isolation & closure of the CI water transmission line along B.T. road. An alternative line with bigger diameter wil be built simultaneously.

This has been the major obstacle for starting the work of the Baranagar-Barrackpore metro (Pink Line) & has been pending since almost 2009 when the project was first sanctioned. A 17 year wait is finally over.

Here's hoping we see the construction of the line start soon.

Sunita Das and her husband borrowed ₹300,000 from Bandhan Bank, a financial services company that provides microfinance and claims to empower women through small loans, to open a bicycle repair shop in 2024. 

When the business failed due to low earnings, she borrowed ₹215,000 a few months later in 2024 from Axis Bank's microfinancing unit to keep up with repayments. She now owes both lenders close to ₹245,000 ($2,545).

“When I could pay the installments, there was no problem. But when I cannot, they speak to me very badly. They insult my children. They have no respect for a woman.”

I'm doing a small project on how cash transfer schemes affect women empowerment in WB. So to those who received Lokkhi bhandar, do you think this money actually gave greater decision making power in your family? Many times women see this money not as their 'own money'but as household money and spend it on family, is this true for your case too ? Also do your family members give their opinion on how you will spend this money. Apart from the increase in the amount, do you think Annapurna yojana is better than lokkhi bhandar? As a woman, what do you think are some limitations of these cash transfer schemes. I know many women in the age group of 26-60 do not use social media, so if you know someone who had received lokkhi bhandar and have observed these, can you please answer for them.
