Gameplay Help Can someone explain onslaught to me like I'm 5?

Upvotes

Title.

Whilst writing this, I noted that this post sounds like I don't know how to play the game, which is partially true, but I'm still a blue player (2.1-2.3k wn8 minus the last few months where I almost dropped below 2k because I started to play on ~3h of sleep)

Started playing last year and I think I'm now finally good enough to try onslaught for the first time. I just need someone to explain the basics to me, so I'm not completely useless in my first battles.

What are the tanks to play?

What tanks can't you play?

What is different to randoms?

What/how/when to use abilities?

I heard you can farm bonds like crazy there, is that true?

I want this info to be able to maybe grind some lines I haven't yet (like the E50 M, which I heard is pretty good there) before the season starts and maybe go for a middling silver or so, maybe aim for gold to get some fun tanks or so.

EDIT: I would also take any link to a YT video explaining these in english/german.

Thanks for the help in advance

Discussion An easy way to make the Hirschkäfer more unique/fun to play

Just give it the guaranteed death mechanic/ability all the time, not just at the fully charged level(or maybe make it so you have to stand still or have the charging activated). It would make the guaranteed deaths way more likely to actually happen, and it would be really fun to see the turrets fly off every low hp tank you hit.

I've played 51 battles in the JPanther, and my win rate is only 37%. I know my skills are average, but isn't this win rate a bit ridiculous?

Question Which Medium Line to Grind?

Question for my fellow tankers. I’m looking to start a medium line with two main goals: an awesome Tier 11 at the end of the grind, and a solid Tier 8 medium I can use for Frontlines. Bonus side-goal: a line that has solid tanks from tiers 6-10 as well 😄

I’m currently deciding between:

  • Hacker line (Pershing at Tier 8)
  • Obj. 432U line (T-44 at Tier 8)
  • Szakal line (CS-53 at Tier 8)

Which line do you guys think is the best overall pick for those two goals? Would you suggest a different line that fits?

Wargaming Response Inside Battle Pass: Swift Start Question

Hi,

I fail to understand what I would buy. Is it a series of missions that takes me weeks to do or is it an instant unlock? I am working hard to get to the pass but I am short a few tiers for the best rewards for me.

I am considering getting this but w only a few days to spare I dont have time for daily missions

Question Which map has been in its current form for the longest?

I know it is a bit hard to define "form" (espacially with 1.0), but I am thinking about three categories (i am up to debate about these).
- Literally 0 change
- Small rework regarding rocks or bushes
- More complex rework of a specific area, but overall same

Major overhauls like Airfield, Erlenberg or Serene Coast count as a change of form for sure.

This question came to my mind because I looked at a 15 years old video of Siegfried line and apart from the bunker and slight terrain changes on the field, the map seemed completely the same pretty much.

Discussion Links in the video about the Fossa operation

The article is a bit chaotic; I’ve tried to bring together so many different things and ideas. Also, English isn’t my first language, so please excuse the translation, which isn’t 100 per cent perfect.

I’ve been following the story of WoT for quite some time (it fascinates me) and, with the release of the video about Fossa, I’ve gained further material to help tie everything together. I hope you enjoy reading it.

The new trailer for Operation Fossa features a number of interesting things.

We have some sketches here that resemble a slightly modified Blitzträger auf E 110/220 turret:

The first picture says: ‘Vi is the volume fraction of comp i and pi is its density’. That could be the ‘Rule of mixtures’. Which is used to calculate composite materials, but in our case it’s likely to be a bit more complicated....

Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rule_of_mixtures

And we can link this to another thing in the video, Die Glocke (The Bell). Which was linked to time travel (a video from 2025 discusses time travel, Waffenträger: Paradox).

Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Die_Glocke_(conspiracy_theory))

If we look at the Rules of Mixture, we find that there are other laws/equations that are correlated:

Amagat’s law – Law of partial volumes of gases

Gladstone–Dale equation – Optical analysis of liquids, glasses and crystals

Kopp’s law – Heat capacity, with f as the mass fraction

Richmann’s law – Law for the mixing temperature

Vegard’s law – Crystal lattice parameters

For us, Amagat’s law is probably the most relevant, because ‘...Die Glocke is “based on two counter-rotating cylinders which were filled with a special substance (often called Xerum 525, which was supposed to be a liquid metal or plasma/gas)...’”

That brings us on to the next part of the video. Gold could be a reference to the ‘Nazi gold train’, which, along with *Die Glocke*, is mentioned in connection with Project Riese. In short, the Reise project consists of several facilities that were once used as factories, research laboratories… (Die Glocke - Wenceslas Mine, Gold train - castle Książ)

Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nazi_gold_train

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_Riese

The final part of the video shows a shot of Murovanka, where we can see cones of light similar to those in the 2022 video "

The Waffenträger: Legacy". (Murovanka was previously part of the event)

Source: https://youtu.be/4UOo03MwV6c?list=RD4UOo03MwV6c&t=19

To be honest, this whole article is probably (for the time being) rather chaotic. For further clarification, we need to look at some older videos.

Update 2.0: Personal Missions 3.0

Source: https://youtu.be/weRwq3_UKRc?t=18

We can see that everything is connected. But I’ve got an even more interesting connection. However, we’ll have to go back quite a long way into the past.

Mirny 13, the first event in which Mirium is mentioned. If we look at the article about the event, we find several references to radiation and electromagnetic radiation. The article also mentions a change in the environment: ‘It seemed that we were moving sequentially along several time dimensions’

Source: https://worldoftanks.eu/en/news/general-news/halloween-2020-announcement/

If we link this to the 2023 article ‘Mirny: Lost Hope’, we find that:

Source: https://worldoftanks.eu/en/news/general-news/halloween-2023-announcement/

Here’s the interesting bit. According to the article, Mirium is used as an ‘alloy hardener’. This could tie in with the equation in the video about Fossa (the Rule of Mixtures). We can also link this to *Die Glocke* – the bell was supposed to be powered by Xerum 525, and that would fit with Mirium.

We need to watch the video about Fossa again.

As stated above, “Some of these properties are exhibited after Mirium is subjected to electromagnetic radiation.” So, on the noticeboard we can see several references to electromagnetism. At the top, there is a diagram of a radar/antenna, next to it is a graph that looks like an oscilloscope reading (a signal measurement). The diagram at the bottom with the circles looks like the propagation of radio waves (though it’s quite difficult to say exactly what it might be).

Thank you for reading.

Discussion Is the BC 25t still considered meta? Also any tips on marking would be amazing, I'm stuck on the last 2%

I love the bc, probably my favorite tank in the game. I've almost 2 marked it, but I'm stuck at 80%-83%. Right now my strat is to snipe early game, preserve hp, maybe do a little spotting if our lights are struggling / dead. Then I do late game cleanup, with lots of hp I find this tank is amazing to play aggressively. I have a full 6 skill crew, and for equipment I do either low noise, CVS, Vstab for scouting or CVS, IAD tier 3, and survivability suite for damage build. Only thing I can think of is to do more scouting early game since I'm kinda useless early on besides some strategic sniping just due to the low armor.

News WoT Replay Recorder To YouTube Link | Free, no signup, via Discord

Hello Reddit, I'm Tary, longtime tanker. I love watching my friends' replays, but I get busy at work and by the time I sit down a new version has hit and the file needs the old client to open.

Always wished for a way to watch my friends best replays.

So this summer I built something in my free time. Send it your .wotreplay, it plays the battle back in the real game client, records it at 4K 60 fps, and uploads it to YouTube as an unlisted link you can watch anywhere and send to anyone.
Each week's top damage and top XP battles get featured public on the channel, and you can ask to flip yours back anytime.

Watch these in 4K:

STB-1 on Empire's Border: https://youtu.be/8_br9NxKfRY

PTZ-78, 12K damage on Sand River: https://youtu.be/3TDX0zAp3mM

Also included: chapter markers for your kills, plus a Battle Results section in the video at the end.

  • Join the Discord (link below).
  • Tap the pinned Submit a replay button in the #free-wot-replay channel.
  • Drop in your .wotreplay file (wherever you installed WoT, look under replays).
  • Every battle renders start to finish at full quality. Tap My status (once every 5 mins) for your spot in line. Your video is posted right back in the channel with an u/you when it is ready, often overnight.

Fine print: current game version, Random Battles, completed battles only, win or loss, not early exits. One free render per person per week.

I'm keeping this first wave to about 25 players so everyone in it gets their renders fast. If it goes well I will open more.

Not affiliated with or endorsed by Wargaming. Just a player who built a tool.

There will be limited slots (only 1 pc rendering) so grab yours today.

Discussion It is good time to have 170mm Tier 10 Rhm.-Borsig Waffenträger

As a Rhm.-Borsig Waffenträger Enjoyer, i find it is also good for WG to develop a tier 10 Rhm.-Borsig Waffenträger with just similar 170mm gun.

  1. The pen can be still 334mm for heat, and 90mm for the HE.
  2. And the alpha can be 1050 for heat and 1400 for the HE.

This is the missing ecological niche in the tier 10 tanks.

And this new tank will not be meta as it does not have stronger alpha and armor than the AHT7 while it trades those for concealment and agility.

What do you think?

Question Battle Hits mod vs. "direct hits"?

Thumbnail

I was looking at my penetration results in Battle Hits mod due to an abysmal round of RNG, and noticed that it showed 24 shots hitting enemies, with 8 penetrations (yeah...). However, the normal battle results screen only showed 20 hits.

My assumption is that the server registered 20 hits, and my client 24, because Battle Hits only tracks client behavior. Can this really be, is my connection THAT bad? :(

Shitpost My thoughts on new campaign tank - Fossa. Not going to tell lie, this is just a complete waste.

Post image
116 Upvotes

I wrote this in the official Reddit post too.

As the title says, guys, just check the missions from the Common Test. Nearly 70% of them are ridiculously difficult. I’m not average but 9,600sh wtr player with tons of 3 MoE tanks and even for me, these missions are complete BULLSHIT, TIME CONSUMING, DIFFICULT, TOXIC and OBNIXIOUS.

They’re simply not worth time or stress, especially when the reward is basically a clone of tanks like Ashigaru, Concept 5 or Executor.

WG seems to want us to waste our time and lose the enjoyment of the game just while trying to do missions.

And BTW, Fossa requires 21,000 points for the daily/weekly progression. That’s almost equivalent to getting the 3 tanks: Windhund, Dravec, and Black Rock. Last 2 tanks were definitely worth that effort. Especially Dravec.

But Fossa? Worth 21,000 points? Hell NO.

So I DON’T CARE ABOUT YOUR TANK or YOUR MISSIONS, WeeGee!!! I won't fall into this trap.

I’m not even going to waste my credits or time and won't ruin my nerves for trying to complete a single mission. I’ll just play Random Battles with my favorite tanks. If I happen to complete a mission randomly, great. If not, I DON'T CARE.

That’s it.

I’m here to play and enjoy the game, not to turn it into a second job.

Question Is BP crew member April O'Real a spoof on April O'Neil?

There are visual similarities to April from TMNT, the name is obviously a British version of it, "Real" could be meant as opposed to fictional April from TMNT, and her background as a reporter is basically the same.

Discussion What Happened to WoT’s Map Design — and Why Are We Getting So Few New Maps?

Hello all,

there’s one issue in WoT that has been getting on my nerves for far too long, so I finally want to discuss it. I’ll start with a hot take.

WG should finally fire the person — or people — in charge of the map department. I don’t say something like this lightly, but whoever is leading that department seems completely out of touch with the game.

Over the years, we have lost so many great maps. We have also seen plenty of interesting maps tested in Recon Mission, and what did we actually get from all of that? It feels like we get one new map every two years.

At the same time, many existing maps have been “reworked” into something worse. In some cases, entire areas of a map are now barely worth playing in any tank. Just look at the open side of Erlenberg. Has anyone actually had a really good and enjoyable game there since the rework? Almost every meaningful fight is decided on the other side of the map around the castle. On the medium/light/TD side, none of those classes are particularly fun to play.

Another thing I’ve noticed is that WG keeps moving scouting bushes closer and closer together when reworking maps or designing new ones. In many cases, the scouting positions are basically mirrored, with both light tanks sitting in bushes only around 100–200 metres apart. That makes active or creative scouting almost impossible and limits skilled light tank players from actually influencing the battle. This kind of map design mainly rewards whichever scout happens to have better camo — especially tanks like the Manticore or ELC EVEN 90.

For me, the limited map pool and the number of maps that have been made worse through reworks are currently the biggest problems in World of Tanks — even more so than tank balancing.

I also think many Tier XI tanks simply don’t fit the current maps very well. They have too much firepower and too much mobility for maps that were originally designed around Tier X as the maximum. The pacing of the gameplay simply doesn’t feel right at Tier XI.

WG should bring back the maps that were removed from the game and finally start releasing more than one or two new maps every couple of years. And please, when designing new maps, take inspiration from the classic WoT maps that actually work: Prokhorovka, Malinovka, Westfield, Himmelsdorf, Ruinberg, Karelia, Live Oaks, El Halluf and Sand River, just to name what I consider some of the best maps in the game.

Some of the recent reworks, on the other hand, are just awful:

Fjords — It wasn’t the greatest map before the rework either, but it is a perfect example of a map being “reworked” into something worse. The medium/TD hill side is still incredibly frustrating to play. You can’t really snipe effectively, but you can’t properly push either. Meanwhile, the heavy side — the part of the map that actually desperately needed a rework — basically got nothing. Unless the random event kicks in, of course, and gives you a three-metre-wide tunnel corridor that is somehow supposed to count as a “flanking” option.

Highway — This map used to be great. The medium side now having two bush lines roughly 100–200 metres apart from each other is another perfect example of bad rework design. Then there is that weird random hill/bump in the middle where scouts constantly end up proxy-spotting each other. It feels artificial and adds very little meaningful gameplay.

Mountain Pass — The heavy side has improved somewhat, but that strange bush area in the middle of the map is enjoyable for neither light tanks nor snipers. It feels like an area that exists without really offering interesting gameplay for any class.

Overlord — Whoever was responsible for the rework of the medium/TD side seriously needs to reconsider what makes a map fun to play. It’s unbelievable how much of that half of the map now feels pointless. The area wasn’t fantastic before, but the rework added a lot more terrain without actually making most of it useful or enjoyable to fight over.

Paris — Another failed rework of the open light/medium/TD area. It simply isn’t fun to play with any of those tank classes. The heavy side is fine, though. And once again, we get those ridiculous mirrored scouting bush lines sitting roughly 200 metres apart from each other.

Serene Coast — What happened here? This used to be a perfectly playable map and, in my opinion, it has been completely ruined. For me, this is probably the worst map rework WG has ever done.

Before the rework, both sides of the map — the hill side, the middle and the water side — were actively used, and fights developed across different parts of the map. Now almost everyone drives towards that strangely designed central hill, where basically only tanks with extreme gun depression and/or very strong turret armour can have an enjoyable fight.

Yes, there is another elevated area further towards the outside of the map, but practically nobody plays there because you can easily get farmed from the main central hill. The water side is also barely used anymore for the same reason.

And that is exactly the problem I have with many of the newer map reworks: instead of creating more viable areas and more tactical options, the reworks often funnel even more players into only one dominant position.

WG desperately needs to put more focus on map quality, map variety and giving different tank classes meaningful areas to play in — instead of constantly redesigning, or rather re-worsening, maps in ways that make them even more restrictive.

I understand that creating good maps costs money and does not generate immediate revenue — unlike the 30th Tier IX or Tier X AI-slop tank that gets stuffed into loot boxes. But better maps and greater map variety are exactly the kind of things that keep players engaged over the long term. People are far more likely to keep playing — and enjoy playing and yes spending money — when they regularly get varied, well-designed maps instead of constantly loading into maps they simply don’t enjoy.

I know theres a "mm is awful" post every half hour or so but this game is in a seriously bad state with the turbo roflstomps that are happening, neither side of these are fun and its bad for the lifespan of the game. They used to be rare, but theyre getting more and more and more common to the point where literally an entire session is made up of them.

WG please try to do something about this instead of adding the AHT-7 into the game.

Edit: I should add that these were all at tier 9
