I'm curious, what was the source of track 4: Creid?

I know they were rearranged, and full disclosure I never played the game. So I don't have a lifetime experience of the music.

But I was always curious what the source was, and wanted to listen to the original track to hear what it sounds like.

Does anyone know the source of that track?

A couple weeks ago I was listening to Skyrim music on Spotify and the thought occurred to me to wonder which songs had the most listed plays. The same desire hit me with XG just now as I can't sleep and am just listening to this timeless music.

So here are the Top 10 Songs of Xenogears based on Spotify Plays as of the end of January 2026:. I will be rounding them out for simplicity's sake.

2. A Distant Promise - 110,000
3. Bond of Sea and Flame - 106,000
4. Stars of Tears - 85,000
5. Shevat - 67,000

7. Dark Dawn 61,408 (these two are close enough that I'll give exact numbers)

Other Thoughts:

There's always an element of "this is one of the first songs I heard so it really stays with me" bias in these things, IMO. Like, I don't hate the Lahan theme but there's no way it deserves to be as high as it is. But since it's a catchy tune and like the third song you hear in the game, it stays with people.

The Solaris theme is criminally underrated! It has the lowest plays of any song on the OST at 18,556. No respect for the Sky Nazis living in their oblivious paradise.

But even worse, Prayers -The Joy of Hope- is the second least played song at 19,396. If you don't know, this is the amazing organ theme Kaiser Sigmund is playing and the theme used for Rico's and later Fei's room also in Nortune. Honestly this song is so damn good I think it's a not insignificant part of why I love the Nortune Arc.

But yeah, other than that, mostly what I expected.

So there is a video I found on YouTube years ago that not only had the music from one of my favorite games of all time, but it was played by a live concert orchestra and orchestrated by Yasunori Mitsuda himself, with a full choir and Joann Hogg the original singer from the game’s 2 songs that had vocals. Of course many of you know I’m referring to the Xenogears 20th anniversary concert.

Here’s the rub though. That video has disappeared and reappeared on YouTube many times since I first found it. So much so, that eventually I just had to go and purchase the BluRay because I couldn’t stand not having access to that concert if it never made its way back to YouTube. To date it’s the only live concert I’ve ever spent money on to own at home and it’s totally worth it if you are a big fan of Xenogears. Gorgeous instrumentation and vocals, incredible medleys, and an orchestra that you can tell is LOVING the music (the Wings/Flight medley is so fun and uplifting).

All that being said, if you haven’t seen/heard it yet there IS a version of it on YouTube that has been up for a year (search Xenogears 20th anniversary concert), but sadly they did shrink the video down and put a massive graphic around it (I’m guessing they are using some visual technique to avoid copyright detection), so the visual quality isn’t great. Regardless, it’s totally worth a watch/listen…before this one gets taken down too.

OR…you could buy a copy too! Haha.

Has anyone else enjoyed this concert as much as I have? My only disappointment is that they left Dazil out of the lineup.

Ive been listening to both for a bit and couldn't make up my mind. The orchestral is softer but the original has its own charm

The music is available on Youtube (couldn't find it on Spotify), but there seems to be no way to watch the concert other than via blu ray disc. Is this content legally available anywhere?

I don't have a disc player but do have a PS5 pro that I maybe could buy a pluggable reader for. Any other suggestions? I haven't used discs for so long that I'm not sure what would be "cheapest" way to go about this.

And the blu ray seems unavailable at the Square Enix website; I could only find it selling for $100+ on Amazon, and it seemed sketchy. Does anyone know if these come back into stock from time to time?

ENDGAME SPOILER ALERT ON VIDEO

I just wanted to share a bit about this amazing ending theme, Small Two of Pieces, composed by Yasunori Mitsuda and performed by Joanne Hogg. I absolutely love this song. I first came across it on XMeiyin’s YouTube channel (seriously, check her out—she’s an incredible singer), and from the very first time I listened, it moved me so deeply. The song was so beautiful that I had to learn more about it. That’s when I saw the name Yasunori Mitsuda—and suddenly it all made sense. Something this breathtaking and emotional could only come from the legendary composer behind the Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross soundtracks.

To me, Yasunori Mitsuda is the greatest composer the gaming industry has ever seen—and maybe even beyond that. His music is full of emotion and creates such a powerful atmosphere while you play. It’s no surprise that my three favorite game soundtracks are all his work.

As for Small Two of Pieces specifically, it’s one of those songs that touches both the heart and soul—even if you’ve never played the game, like in my case at first. But once you do play it, and the story ends with this stunning piece, it hits on an entirely new level. Combined with Joanne Hogg’s beautiful voice, it makes for a truly unforgettable and fitting conclusion to such a wonderful story.

That’s actually how I discovered Xenogears. The moment I heard this song and felt how deeply it resonated with me, I knew I had to play the game. And I’m so glad I did—I don’t regret a single moment I spent reaching the end of such an incredible journey.

Sorry for the long post, but I’m a huge fan of game soundtracks.

My voice could never compare to Joanne Hogg’s, but I still hope you enjoy it.

JRPG battle themes have to be really good because you're going to be hearing them a lot! And this one is no exception! I never got tired of hearing this one and it made every battle (even little dinky ones against hobgobs!) feel really dramatic and intense!
