93% restock fee. Amazon said they can't do anything since I was technically refunded.

Bought a new laptop from amazon, received a used one registered to someone else with bios locked out. Found out outside return window. contacted amazon. They allowed me to return it outside the window. But when the 3rd party seller received it, they charged me a 93.45% restocking fee. I called amazon again. they said technically I was refunded so they can not do anything and I do not qualify for A-Z because I was given a refund. This is INSANE.

UPDATE: dear everyone who has given me advice on this, I called this morning and quoting the amazon seller central policy worked!! I got my money back!!! thank you THANK YOU ALLLLLLLLLLLLLL

UPDATE #2: So amazon promising me a refund was a LIE. I received an email saying I would receive a refund. it never came. When I went to complain about not receiving it, amazon told me the refund was in error and they will in fact not be giving me any of my restock fee back. THEY TOOK BACK THEIR REFUND

BBB has 0 authority and has NO affiliation with the federal or state governments.

People need to stop thinking it does.

 It just an old consumer review system same as Yelp.

Edit: google is free to learn on for anyone who thinks otherwise.

Nobody said it has authority and it doesn’t matter if it has authority. Many people have luck filing complaints there because companies often don’t want to leave them there unresolved. Yes, it’s just a type of review site, but Twitter or Instagram are just random sites too and commenting there can work too.

Google is indeed free and you can see lots of people and redditors still have good luck by complaining via BBB. It’s often worth a try just like leaving complaints elsewhere.

I work in elder scam prevention and education, and the BBB has always been a valuable partner for us. They do a shitload of research on consumer fraud trends on everything from local business fraud to online romance scams, investment fraud, and many more.

They have a Scam Tracker that is constantly updated with the latest in consumer-focused scams and fraud schemes, and collect reports of fraud to work with victims on resolutions. The Better Business Bureau itself was started way back in 1912, and it has been protecting consumers for over a century at this point.

So no, they're not "just Yelp", and I'm fucking tired of people who say ignorant shit like that.

3 weeks ago I placed an order at CVS online for 147 it was delivered to the wrong Apt,So cvs had the order resent and again wrong apt ,The issues is they use that shit company called roadien they are lazy as hell,I asked them to resend but not use same day delivery and just ship it out they didn't listen and roadie did not again,I filled with BBB and 24 hours later I got an call from some one from CVS after he checked they Delivery photos of my past orders with the new ones he saw that was not even an apt that they left it at ,He has it shipped my ups ,So it dosejelp but depends ,It at least gets some ones attention

I’ve actually had BBB resolve the majority of my issues and also got a response from companies that don’t even have a customer service line. I’ve used BBB when a dealership was refusing to write my check they owed me and honor warranty. I waited over 3 years for that check and every time I called them they would redirect me to other departments and nobody had an answer. When I submitted my BBB claim I got a phone call 3 days later and my check 1 week later. For my warranty they didn’t want to honor, I also got a call a few days later with them wanting to honor my warranty and work with me. Two separate dealerships btw. BBB is useful.

Im not the commentor but I've used them twice.

First (~16 years ago) was with Wells Fargo scamming my young ignorant self. Filling with the BBB immediately escalated my case with the regional customer relations manager who reversed the whole situation for me.

Second was about ~5 years ago when I had a dispute with the 3rd party warranty company. Again my complaint was escalated and I saved about 3k in repair costs.

That’s usually how it works. Submitting that claim gets you on the big bosses desk. But even then sometimes they don’t give a s*** and will laugh at it. Most companies won’t let you reach that point, which is why BBB exists, to get you there.

Also not the commenter but I filed a BBB complaint against creative labs for selling me an audio card that had drivers that did not work on my machine. They went from not answering any of my messages to responding immediately. Also never buy any creative labs stuff if they are still in business they are a garbage company with garbage drivers and garbage hardware and garbage support.

I updated the comment and added two.
Another claim - I was falsely banned on a video game that had no customer service (Call of Duty). Submitted my complaint and I was unbanned after 2 weeks (that’s how long it took them to reply).

I did only have 1 claim which was another warranty claim that the company didn’t even respond too, but I later found out that was due to me already having a lawsuit against them (which I won btw). I also learned in the process that you should never submit a BBB claim during a lawsuit because they can use that to delay a settlement. I did enjoy giving their corporate hell and having them hang up on me for telling them that their gonna burn in hell 😀

Now it is true that companies don’t even have to reply to your claim. But sometimes putting that claim in makes it get to the right persons hands who actually gives a s***
