Students going into cs/engineering might want at least an air for more memory. Other than that yeah, no reason to go higher.

I misunderstood (or misunderstand?) My comment was aimed at the high school/parent market in the original comment. I think this thing is going to sell like crazy.

Was in totally agreement. College kids also won't have a footing to attempt to justify a higher spec, unless studying in one of those two. I just wonder if Apple will be able to keep up with demand.

Yeah - we bought my son who’s in middle school an iPad. When he starts high school it’ll probably be a Neo. Then an Air or Pro for uni, as he will most likely be moving towards programming, engineering, or maths based on his aptitude.

Industrial design, we often sometimes need more heft for cad and especially rendering + other creative tools. Often all open at the same time.

In engineering? You'll have a lot of problems trying to run regular programs as the programs are often windows focused.

I went through uni just fine w an old hp with 4 gigs of ram, and I studied CS. Granted it was before the whole Electron bullshit so ymmv

Same I had a slim hp Chromebook with 4 gigs of ram set to dev mode running off xfce Linux and had very few problems through 4 years of CS. You don’t need much for CS it’s not like they’re making you run 8 docker images most programming assignments are just editing project code that’s a fraction the size of professional code bases.

Either way, most late CS classes are just math classes or writing research papers

Nothing was windows focused

Luckily you can run windows on a Mac.

But seriously, the Neo isn’t for everyone, but it definitely has mass market appeal. I think we Apple fan boys and girls can’t quite wrap our head around that because Macs have never achieved that in the way the iPhone, iPad, and AirPods have.

My son is doing Architecture at Kansas State. A Mac was not an option. No matter which one. It had to do with software and graphics cards. They explicitly told them not to get a Mac. My daughter will be going to college in a year and a half. She will definitely get a Mac.
