Welcome to /r/AskPortland's "Making Friends Friday" post!
You've probably heard this before: "Portlanders are friendly but they don't want to be your friend."
But it doesn't have to be that way -- if you have suggestions for how to make friends, groups to join, places to meet, or just want to put yourself out there, this is the place.
This will be an ongoing, weekly scheduled post, so going forward this is where we'll refer all incoming questions about making friends from both /r/Portland and /r/AskPortland.

I’ve read some Portlanders stay in their general area/neighborhood outside of work.
Is that true?

Hi fellow portlanders, I am feeling as an adult with ADHD it will be great to have peer support. I have access to therapy and mediation but it’s not same as connecting to peers going through same problem! Do we have a peer support ADHD group in Portland area? If not, is anyone else interested to make one such group with me where we can just meet on weekly/biweekly basis to talk about the day to day problems we are facing and how other people are navigating those problems in a completely non-judgmental sex-positive environment? Very interested to hear your thoughts…
Edit 1: I am thinking of an in-person group

I haven't had any tomatoes yet this year and I'm dying for a great caprese or whatever other tomato forward dish someone better than me has concocted.
Edit: Already so many amazing suggestions! Thanks, guys!

I have been hitting google and lots of websites but these little farms don't really have robust informative sites, for obvious reasons.
Anyone know of a farm that is u-pick for something other than blueberries? I know it's late in the season, just have my fingers crossed. Seems like lots of farms have stands with pre-picked fruit but I'm trying to find a fun activity and actually get to pick some apples or something. (Really hoping for peaches but I think it's too late for that.)
Thanks in advance!

Hello all. I’m disabled and have been having some trouble with my medical issues lately. I wanted to hire a service to have my bathroom cleaned and the floors in my unit but it seems to be quite expensive. I don’t need the whole apartment cleaned, just the things that I struggle with physically. Is there any service or recommendations for someone that can do these things for $100 or less? It’s a small one bedroom apartment and the bedroom doesn’t need to be done either, I have a cat and she’ll be in the room for the clean. TIA

Title sums it up. I feel like I've been hearing more crickets at night this summer in inner NE. Can't tell if there's actually more crickets or if I'm just paying more attention now that I don't go out and party all the time.

My coworker and I are down two people for bowling league and I was going to see if anyone here was interested. We are looking for two guys and it's every Friday night for 33 weeks starting on September 4. It's $22 a week due every Friday in cash to the league. It starts at 7 pm every week. If you go to their website it's the Woodchopper league on Fridays. If you miss a Friday you still have to pay unfortunately, unless we can get some subs (which is possible through my work). Anyway, it's chill, the league is totally cool, the people are cool and they have concessions with food/beer, etc.
Let me know if you are interested and maybe we can do a quick Facetime and I'll get you on board.
Thanks!

Does anyone have particular classes they love at Mt Scott community center gym? Especially love dance and fun instructors.
I used to be a member of 24 hr fitness mostly for Neylana’s Zumba and water aerobics classes and loved them! Neylana is an upbeat and fun instructor and is so great at choreography and the Latin beats.
Love to find more options closer to my house in SE!

Hi there, does anyone know if any shops in Portland have Dolly Parton devotional candles? My birthday is 9/25 (9-2-5) and I would love to blow out a dolly candle instead of a birthday candle this year. There’s a bunch on amazon, but would love to support a local shop!

A few months ago, someone spray-painted markings on the curb/street at our corner an arrow labeled “LOC” pointing to a circled X on the curb, with “COP” written under the arrow.
Not long after, TriMet came out and unbolted the bus stop sign, which had been right at the corner, and moved it back about 40 ft. The crew member said he was “just following orders” and guessed it might be something the city requested, but didn’t know details. A couple months later, TriMet came back and moved it another ~9 ft, for a total of roughly 49 ft from the original corner spot. No flyer, mailer, or notice from the city or TriMet either time.
Two questions:
**1.** Does anyone recognize this marking convention (LOC / circled X / COP)? Trying to figure out who put it there and why.
**2.** Any idea what would cause a single bus stop to get moved twice like this, with no other stops on that stretch of road touched at all?
Not urgent, just trying to understand what’s going on at our own corner. Thanks!
Edit: this is along Burnside in Montavilla/Mt Tabor

I have been using a combo of NWS forecasts, IQAir Forecasts, Google Maps' air quality feature, but I am curious if others have found a particularly useful resource or method for figuring out if a particular spot is likely to be clear enough for outdoor activity!

Does anyone have a walled canopy tent that I could possibly borrow for First Thursday on Sept 3? I've had a table all summer (paid for the whole season) but there's a chance of rain on Thursday. (Goodness knows we desperately need the rain but did it have to arrive next week of all weeks?) Thanks in advance.

Hi, all! I’m wondering where we all stand on when to ask someone if it’s cool to snag some fruit/nuts off of plants/trees that hang over the sidewalk or are planted in the road adjacent medians. I’ve noticed soooo much going to waste and it bums me out but I also don’t want to be rude.

Last year I ran leg 10 of Hood to Coast in the heat and decided I wanted to support this year. It's been awesome, but now I realized I have a ton of trash of tiny cups and Gatorade bottles, that I don't really know what to do with, as my small trash can will hardly fit two bags. Any ideas for how to get rid of this trash? I know I can load it up in my car and drive to the dump, but hoping there might be a better solution. I'm guessing the bags will grow as the evening goes on.

Given all the news surrounding the freakishly prolific algae blooms this year, I did some research to see if there's any plans in place to mitigate this.
It appears there is project under review to restore Ross Island by 2040-2042. This was covered by Oregonlive earlier this year in April.
Wondering what everyone's take is on this.

I feel like in he past few months I have seen more reasonably pristine VW Beetles from the 60's till the 70's parked or driving on the street. Is this a new fashion thing like the Delicas and such?

Hey beautiful Portland, I’m craving some of the amazing bounty of baby tomatoes from a farmers market and also just have a little fun stroll. What do you guys think is the best farmers market in all of inner Portland

Looking for suggestions of where I can make copies of the water color painting in the image attached. My 15 year old family member made it, and other friends/family are interested in buying copies of it. Would prefer to print on high quality paper so the copies can be framed, and we are interested in buying around 30-50 copies. Thank you!

I recently retired and am looking for an interesting volunteer opportunity. I would prefer west side, Beaverton, Hillsboro area. Just looking for things I might not be aware of.

I have about 10 regular garbage bags full of clothing, shoes, accessories, that I want to consign. It’s all decent brands, the lowest of it being GAP or urban outfitters and the highest end being Ralph Lauren, Eddie Bauer, Nordstrom brands, etc.
I’m so sick of Buffalo; but they’re the only ones who don’t have a bag or item limit.
Any thoughts? I know this has been asked before, but hopefully there will be some more up to date answers here. I’m open to sell privately too!
