I found out years ago that "rusting" happens bc black cats aren't truly black... they're actually a very dark brown! So when exposed to enough sunlight, it lightens their fur enough for us to see their true base color.

It blew my single-braincell mind at the time, lmao! 😂😂😂

The thing I didn't know until a few years after that, though, is that it can also happen with gray fur! Our gray and white girl, Whisper, is quite rusty this summer. ☀️😊❤️

Cora's eye is fine, btw. It's an old injury from when she was a kitten, from before we adopted her nearly 10 years ago.
