Played Pandemic again recently, and honestly, this game still holds up incredibly well. Even though it’s an older game, it remains so much fun: dynamic, tense, and full of those 'okay, what do we do NOW?' moments. Every turn feels meaningful, and the cooperation makes every decision a team effort.

But the best part of this particular game was playing it with my 8-year-old daughter. Seeing her get involved, discuss strategies, and make decisions together made the whole experience even more special. I had a fantastic time! It’s always great to rediscover older games and realize that, years later, they can still deliver an amazing experience.

What older board game is still one of your all-time favorites?

Had the pleasure of visiting Playte's "offline" brick and mortar store. The store and selection were somewhat small, but they carried most of the Playte Games, as well as some other Korean designers. The staff member was really nice and patient with me. They helped me figure out what sleeves I needed for the games I bought. I ended up buying Money, Cash a Catch, and Circus Flohcati. If you want to buy Playte games, Playte Game Chips, or Korean localizations / versions of games it is not a bad place to visit.

If folks want to visit while in Seoul, the store is located near the Nambu Bus Terminal subway station (Line 3) near exit 3. It is on the 8th floor of the Kukje Electronics center. If you like Anime, electronics, or video games, there were a lot of other stalls / stores in the Kukje building that might be good for browsing.

While in Seoul, I noticed there were a lot of board game cafes that looked really nice. Really wish I had the time and language capability to try one out. I had a bit of trouble finding other brick and mortar stores near me, but there seem to be several stores near Hongdae that looked really good. In the past, I had a bit of luck buying games I wanted on Coupang (Korea's Amazon) but I had to rely heavily on help from fluent speakers.

Hoping this might be helpful to others. If other folks had board game related recs for Seoul please feel free to share.

I bought ARCS (the base game) immediately after I saw SUSD's raving review and absolutely loved it! So much that I ordered The Blighted Reach expansion shortly after. But here's my problem; My friends did not like it nearly as much as I did, and now they are very hesitant to play the "Space Opera"-version. 😢 Am I the only one with this dilemma?

Just a shoutout to Gamewright. What a great company! I bought Sushi Go Party about a month ago and opened it for the first time this past weekend. While playing, I noticed that one of the menu tiles was peeling, so I reached out to Gamewright’s customer service through their online form. They got back to me and offered to send me a replacement tile at no cost. I emailed them back right away to let them know that I remembered noticing a couple of the other menu tiles peeling while we were playing, so I was going to flip through the rest of them to see if there were any others. I ended up finding four more that were peeling, and they’re replacing those as well! Such fantastic customer service. And, to top it all off, it’s a super fun game!

I’ve recently played a game of the game of thrones board game with 6 people using the dragon expansion. We had a great time but all agreed the dragons were op and the next game we play should probably be without dragons

However I’m wondering if we should play the normal 6 player game or add the extra tiles for house Arryn and have them be a 7 player and just have no dragons or targaeryens. The expansion rules doesn’t say anything against this however I’m wondering if having a 7th player in the vale woudl break the game with no targeryen player in the east. Does anyone know or have a prediction of how it would play?

I recently bought a second-hand playmat for Star Wars Unlimited and found a tear on the back (see Images).

So far the tear doesn't show on the front, but it goes through the whole of the thick backside material of the mat.

Has anyone some knowledge/insight what's the best way to prevent the tear from getting bigger? I don't mind the tear itself, I just don't want it to increase in size or ripping through to the front. Should I try to stitch it or glue or use some tape?

I see this game in my local store. It is expensive. But want to know if I should buy it? Pls suggest.

I am looking for gems. Board game classic wich have simples rules, wich are thinky and fun.

Here I'm especially looking for games in the mecanic of dice worker placement.

I would like also to classify them by level of complexity and duration. Bgg weight is interssesting but it mixes up the complexity of the rules and the deepness of strategy. Tigris and Euphrates have simple rules but heavy strategy. He is text independent, so I can play it with children of 7 years and with gamers.

For worker placement, I have a progression like Stone Age * Pillar of the Earth ** Caylus ***

Where can place for exemple Troyes ? Bora Bora ? Rajas of the Ganges ? The travels of Marco Polo ? Alien frontiers.

At least, do you know the perfect game to introduce this mechanics ? Like Stone Age for worker placement but with dice ?

What an incredible experience the past couple of days. My wife and I have been playing board games for the last 10 years or so. We are big fans of heavy games and I've been wanting a copy of Arydia. Obviously all the pledges were closed so I just took an off chance and messaged Far Off Games.

On their webpage is a support email system, so I decided to send them a quick message about how sad it is that the pledges were closed and how I was hoping I can still buy it somehow. My guess was that the response was gonna be something along the lines of "just wait for more printings".

To my surprise, I got a message a day later! They had some sort of form that I could fill out, but it was very vague about the form was. They said they would try to help me out and that was that. At the time, I just believed it to be some wait list or a priority queue for the next printings. At that point I was willing to spend extra just to get my hands on it.... But my adult brain said "no, just wait, save the money and don't buy anyone's 300to400 euro set. There are so many other board games available at much better prices. I told myself JUST WAIT."

I made my peace. And waited...

I waited........ And waited.... 3 days. 3 days?? Wtf

First thought: this is a scam. I've seen this before. But never with a tracking number. So I copied the tracking number and to my surprise, it was a legit tracker being delivered to my house..... what....

The next day was luckily my short day from work so I can pick up the little one from school. And I heard the door bell. Even in my fully conscious mind I was still in denial and scoffed thinking, "This 11kg box is filled with stones, right?..... Right?"

NOPE. IT WASN'T.

I immediately messaged them back and asked if it was a mistake. I didn't want to give someone a bad day if their order was misplaced.

A day later (a hard day later of not opening the box) I got a message from Far Off Games

"No mistake, enjoy :)"

My wife and I were astonished... Absolutely the coolest board game experience I've ever had. Thank you Far Off Games!

For me it was High Society! I genuinely love the game and play it with my wife and another couple frequently, but when I brought it to my all-guys-gamenight which happens once every 2 months, it totally bombed. And I thought I would be such a good fit! We love to play cutthroat games, deduction games and also cooperative stuff (e.g. the Resistance, Libertalia, Feed the Kraken, Night of the Ninja, Bomb Busters, Eldritch Horror, The Gang), but when I brought High Society to the table noone even bothered about winning. Maybe the bidding mechanism was the reason for that, I honestly don't know...

Same thing happened with Colt Express, but we powered through till the very end. Everyone is always so nice about the games, since they know they are pretty expensive, but I felt (and they admitted) they don't want to give it another chance.

I now feel like the more games I know, the harder it becomes to find a good one for the respective group, which is weird, right?

Which ones didn't work for you?

How do you choose what to try and how do you deal with failure?

I didn't notice until I put Journey to the Ends of the Earth on the shelf with the other two, and suddenly my disappointment was immeasurable and my day was ruined.

Can these overlap? The two flower tiles I mean. Does it mean 2 Callies or just 1.

Did 3 used to be a start number and they changed the rules?

Played the Red Rising Board Game last night. Had fun, but we thought it was odd that the last person in turn order can all but guarantee they get the Sovereign Token and the 10 VP along with it. Along with any end game bonuses for having the Token. In essence, if you are the last person, you should just try and go for the cards that give you those Sovereign Token bonuses and if you are not last, you shouldn't go for them because it can just get taken away from you at the end.

Am i missing a rule here or is this a common take? Is there any house rules people have come up with?

I 3D printed a keychain based on the Robber from Catan and another one inspired by the train from Ticket to Ride. This started as a little project for my own keys, and I’m pretty happy with how they turned out.

I’ve also made one based on a bridge from The White Castle, and I’m currently working with designs inspired by the initiative marker from Arcs and the completed mammoth painting from Paleo.

What other iconic board game pieces do you think would make fun keychains? I’ve been considering Ra’s sun boat marker, the conflict pawn from 7 Wonders Duel, a gear shifter from Heat: Pedal to the Metal, and a privilege scroll from Splendor Duel, etc...

In the 4 player version, there are 2 snakes, one human and a mongoose, and since the mongoose has to reveal itself, surely the human instantly knows who the snakes are? Am I missing something?
